Abstract

A research to investigate the relationship of the agricultural extension agent (AEA) motivator-hygiene factors and their job performances at different agriculture extension institution in west java was conducted in August through Desember 2007.  The objectives of this study were:1) to identify their job performance and 2) to determine the relationship of the agent motivator-hygiene factors and their job performances in west Java Province.  A total of 260 AEA from 17 districts in West Java were selected by a stratified randomized sampling technique with proportional allocation as a sample of the study. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the agents’ description  on their motivator-hygiene factors,  whereas the Kendall coefficient of concordance W  was used to analyze  the relationship of AEA performance and their motivator-hygiene factors. The results shown that some substantial works need to be done in order to improve the agents’ performances due to low hygiene factors and insufficient of motivating factors.  Furthermore, the Kendall coefficient of concordance W obtained mostly high and highly significant. It could be concluded that AEA performed best in respectively involving informal leaders, farmer group development, extension work plan, using extension method, program planning; and performed well in evaluation and reporting subject matters development, farmer self reliance development, office maintenance and administrative, rural economic development and need assessment.  Finally, Agriculture extension agent performed unsatisfactorily in evaluation and reporting, networking and professional development.

Abstract

This research was aimed to know factors related to the action programs as a representation of BPP performance and relationship between factors that potentially increase BPP performance and their impacts to the behavioral changes of ricefield farmers in South Sulawesi. Population of this research were all BPP located in 15 districts (regencies) in South Sulawesi (176 sub-districts/150 BPP). Determination of samples used Slovin method, number of samples was 109 BPP located within 109 sub-districts. Research design was done based on the ex post facto with method design of survey and interviews using questionnaires. Design of data analysis used approach of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) model applying LISREL program. Results of the research showed that variables of BPP development, BPP management, human resources, guided farmers, BPP resources, and BPP adaptation were significantly influencing the action programs as BPP representative performances with correlation coefficient (R2) was 0.72, the remaining 28 percent was affected by other factors outside of the study. Those factors directly influenced each others both insignificant and significant at α = 0.05. Besides that, they also indirectly influenced farmer behavior as much as 0.78 unit. The influence of action program as representation of BPP performances to the farmer behavior was indicated by correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.61, the remaining 39 percent was influenced by other variables outside of the study. Strategic implication of this research become important to the farmer behaviors, and to the development of BPP performances through action programs to a better direction by considering BPP development, BPP management, human resources, guided farmers, BPP resources and BPP adaptation. Keywords : Performances, development, management, resources, adaptation, action program, farmer behavior, BPP

Abstract

The traditional irrigation water management system in Bali known as Subak has a great potential for adopting the SRI innovation. In the adoption process, there is also a learning process on the individual members of the subak. The objectives of this researchare (1) to analyze the characteristics of the Subak members, competence of facilitators, competence of Subak caretakers, theperceptions, and attitudes that influence Subak members in Self Directed Learning, and (2) to formulate the strategy of approachand effective extention in improving Self Directed Learning of the Subak members. This research was carried out in sevenregencies in the province of Bali. The total amount of samples in this research is 104 farmers selected through the StratifiedRandom Sampling methods which also included famers that applied SRI innovations. Primary data were collected throughinterviews and direct obserations from September to October 2011. The design of this research is an ex Post Facto and dataanalyzed using Structural Equation Model (SEM). The result of this research shows that: (1) The better the perceptions, attitudestowards SRI, characteristics of members of Subak, competence of facilitators and caretakers of the Subak, the better the level ofSelf Directed Learning of Subak members; and (2) The role of facilitator is very important to helping subak members decidedto accept an agricultural innovation. The discovery of dominant factors which affect the adoption of SRI among Subak memberswill facilitate the caretakers in making a change in Bali. Keywords: adoption, innovation, SRI, farmers, caretakers

Abstract

This study aims to estimate accurately the behavior using the Theory of Planned Behavior perspective of artisanal fishermen in Indonesi., The population of artisanal fishermen in the northern coast of West Java Province 10,404. Techniques for sampling by cluster random sampling clusters with the number of household sample of 400 artisanal fishermen. Data was collected using a questionnaire interview further processed using the program structural equation model (SEM) and LISREL 8:54. The conclusion of this study were (1) Theory of Planned Behavior perspective can be used to view the behavior intention of artisanal fishermen in the northern coast of West Java province; (2) the coefficient of determination between the attitude variables, subjective norm, perceived behavior control to variable behavior intention at 0,64. Meanwhile the influence of variables on behavior intention to behavior by 0,68 indicates that it is not fully manifested the behavior intention in accordance with the behavior of fishermen in their fishing activities, (3) that explains the study's findings about contribution of the Theory Planned Behavior perspective to the problem of coastal common resource and can contribute to the activities of co-management of fisheries in Indonesia, especially in communities in the study area on the northern coast of West Java Province. Keywords: artisanal fishermen behavior, behavior intention, attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control

Also, to know that factors influences the cacao farmers competence. The population of this research is all the agricultural extension workers in four district, South Sulawesi province (447 person). The sample of this research referred to Slovin method from among 106 (one hundred six) agricultural extension workers, 106 (one hundred six) group farmers leaders and 212 (two hundred twelve) cacao farmers . The design of this research was conducted by surveying and interviewing. LISREL program with ‘SEM’ was used in analyzing data. The Result of this research show that the agricultural extension worker’s performance was influenced significantly by characteristic, competence, motivation and self reliance. The total influence of them were 10 percent and 90 percent were represent other influences outside this study. The suggestion was that their performance must be improved by providing special training to improve their capability in agricultural extension planning, monitoring and evaluation, agricultural extension development and technology disemination.Key words: Performance, competencies, motivation

The research was carried out in October to November 2008 at eleven regencies/cities at south Kalimantan. The total of sample 228 people, taken randomly from the population of social service employee in south Kalimantan. The result of research is four kinds of instrument which is used in this research valid and reliable to measure the traning needs on social extension. The suggestion is the decision to choose instrument which relatively the same about the level of validity and its reliability on the basis of dimension consideration to the training needs that want to know.Key words: training needs, social extension, instrument of training needs assesment
