Abstract

Reading is the first skill to master in other literature. Students’ literacy is still low, according to PISA in 2018. There is a need for efforts to improve literacy skills, one of which is the development of literacy platforms. The aim of this research is to develop multimedia learning to improve reading literacy. Research and development (R&D) is based on the Dick & Carey development model. The study was conducted at senior high school, with 30 students participating. Multimedia is validated by material, design, and media experts. Data from the questionnaire instruments and student responses are analyzed with both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Overall, from the data analysis results, expert validation data was declared "very valid" with an average of 4.27. The results of an empirical test analysis with individual, small-group, and field trials stated the media was "very valid" and ready for use in learning, with an average of 4.66. From the results of the pretest and posttest involving 30 students, the result of the calculation of the t test obtained a value of 0,000, with the conclusion that there was a difference in the outcome of the pre-test and post-test. From the calculation of effect size with Cohen’s d, we get a value of 3.55 for category strong. Based on the results above, the Literacy Platform application developed can improve reading literacy and can be applied to learning.

Abstract

The classroom action research was conducted due to the low level of activity and low learning outcomes, as teachers still applied conventional methods, namely lectures. The aim of this research is to increase student activity and learning outcomes. This research uses a discovery learning model with classroom action research methods carried out in 3 cycles. Stages of planning, implementation, observation and reflection. There were 38 people in Class XII MIPA SMA Negeri 4 Pontianak as research subjects. Data collection techniques using observation, testing, and documentation. The results of the first cycle showed activity in the low category, namely 43.60% with complete learning outcomes of only 47.36%. In the second cycle, 63.15% were in the medium category with 60.52% completeness and increased significantly in the third cycle, namely 80.07%, including the high category and learning outcomes with 81.57% completeness. It can be concluded that the discovery learning model was successful in increasing student activity and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Mapping basin substrates and vulnerability indexes in shallow waters are crucial for understanding the ecological health and resilience of marine ecosystems. Given the increasing threats from climate change and human activities, this research provides essential insights for effectively managing and conserving these vital coastal environments. Our study discusses mapping the bottom substrate and the vulnerability index of shallow waters in the Combol and Citlim Island clusters, Moro District, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province. Shallow waters have rich ecosystems, including coral reefs and seagrass beds, which function as fish habitats and coastal protection. However, these ecosystems are vulnerable to climate change and pollution disturbances. Using the water column correction method, this study used Sentinel-2A multispectral satellite imagery to map the shallow water bottom habitat. The analysis showed that open substrates and dead corals dominated the habitat, with an area of ± 766.8 Ha and ± 682.5 Ha, respectively. The vulnerability index revealed that a total area of approximately 393 ha fell into the moderate vulnerability category. Our mapping result is essential for understanding ecosystem dynamics and formulating appropriate conservation strategies. We anticipate that these findings will offer valuable insights for managing aquatic resources and safeguarding coastal ecosystems in the region.

Abstract

Listening comprehension involves understanding spoken language in real time, yet it is often underemphasized in classrooms. This study examined the effectiveness of the Dictogloss technique in teaching listening comprehension among 25 tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Selakau in the 2024/2025 academic year. Using a one-group pre-test and post-test design over four sessions, data were collected through listening tests based on dialogue texts. Results showed an improvement in listening for details, with mean scores rising from 50 to 65.6 (a 31.2% increase). However, accuracy of answers declined from 44 to 36 (an 18.18% decrease). Overall, the average score increased from 47 to 50.8. Despite these changes, the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test indicated no statistically significant effect (p = 0.153), and the small effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.271) suggested the Dictogloss technique had a limited impact. Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using Storybird, a digital storytelling platform, in teaching descriptive text to X-grade students at SMAN 2 Sekayam. The sample consisted of 28 students. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The instrument used was written test that evaluated five aspects: content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Data were analyzed using SPSS software through the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and effect size calculation. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ writing scores, increasing from a pre-test mean of 37.23 to a post-test mean of 59.55, with a moderate effect size of 0.74. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a p-value of < .001, indicating a statistically significant difference. These findings suggest that Storybird positively influences students’ ability to write descriptive texts, particularly in generating and developing ideas. Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to design, implement, and evaluate a deep learning-based adaptive e-module to teach mathematical concepts. Specifically, the topic of optimum value to tenth-grade vocational students in the Visual Communication Design (DKV) program. The goal is to determine the module's feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students' problem-solving skills and learning motivation.Method: The research employed the ADDIE development model, consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Validation was carried out by three experts in education and technology. The product was tested on 36 vocational students, using instruments such as expert validation forms, Likert-scale questionnaires, pre- and post-tests, interviews, and classroom observations.Findings: Expert evaluations indicated high feasibility with scores ranging from 4.2 to 4.6. The average student score increased from 57.97 (pre-test) to 69.44 (post-test), while the standard deviation decreased from 11.315 to 8.914. A low correlation between pre- and post-test scores (r = –0.022; p = 0.899) suggests that the module was equally effective for students across different ability levels. Feedback from both teachers and students confirmed the module’s high practicality and engaging nature.Significance: The findings demonstrate that a deep learning-based adaptive e-module can enhance visual and contextualized mathematics learning for vocational students. It promotes conceptual understanding, learning motivation, and problem-solving skills regardless of initial performance. This study highlights the transformative potential of integrating artificial intelligence into instructional design, especially for creative-industry-focused education programs.
