Abstract

This research is entitled The Social Conflict in Que Nguyen and Adele Lim’s Raya and the Last Dragon. The focus of this research is divided into two, namely to analyze the social conflict and conflict resolution within the story. The primary data source is the screenplay of Raya and The Last Dragon by Que Nguyen and Adele Lim. This study uses sociological approach which focuses on Marxist literary criticism to analyze the social conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, as well as how the conflict resolution unfolds. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method. The results show that social conflict is reflected through class structure in an unequal economic system in the form of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat, as well as class conflict in the form of inequality of power resources, class resistance, and struggle for power resources. Moreover, conflict resolution is depicted in the form of class consciousness, working class unity, and social change. Thus, the study concludes that social conflicts rooted in class inequality can lead to divisions, betrayals, and struggles for power resources among groups who are suspicious of each other, and this story emphasizes that consciousness of injustice, unity among the oppressed, and collective action between them are important keys to achieve justice, equality, and sustainable peace. Abstract

This study aims to compare grief in Chinonye Chukwu’s Till and Zach Braff’s A Good Person. This study applies a comparative literary approach supported by psychological theory, specifically William Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning, to examine how grief is experienced, expressed, and resolved by the main characters. This study also uses a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis focuses on the similarities and differences in the cause of grief, tasks of grief, and the impact of grief. Mamie grieves the brutal murder of her son and transforms her sorrow into activism and justice, while Allison struggles with guilt after causing a tragic accident and begins a journey toward personal healing. The findings reveal that both characters experience the tasks of grief: accepting the reality of the loss, processing the pain, adjusting to a new reality, and finding an enduring connection, though in different ways. Although both characters experience similar grief processes, the expression and impact of grief differ significantly. Physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually, each character is affected in distinct ways depending on their background and the nature of their loss. Abstract

Javanese literature can be categorized as modern literature with genres of novel, novella, drama and short story although researchers have not yet discussed Javanese literature in the same stage as Western literature. This paper analyses Tiwiek Suwignyo Adi’s Carang-carang Garing by using theory of literary anthropology. Literary anthropology is a study that combines literary studies with anthropology, focusing on the relationship between literary works and their social, cultural, and historical contexts. Begin with narrating the morning life of a lower economic class Javanese family, Adi’s Carang-carang Garing tells in a close and detail way about the struggle of lower economic class Javanese mpeople in facing the capitalist industry as the circumstance of Indonesian society in the 20th century. In this case what is faced by the main characters, Suyatman and Darmini is situation where there is a violation which breaks the harmony of Javanese society, Bambang does not want to admit his deed in impregnating Darmini and Suyatman feels jealous to his sister’s family who always get riches in their life. Darmini kills Bambang and Suyatman kills his sister’s son. Their evil to kill is not just a protest between members of Javanese people, as part of hierarchical order in Javanese society the protest is also the symbol of protest from lower economic class to the ruler who does not care to the lower economic class people.
