Abstract

Indonesia ornamental fish industry is experiencing increasing popularity, demonstrated by a 1.99% rise in production in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2023. The intensive fish farming system is a method that applies high density and provides artificial feed that has high protein to support optimal fish growth. Aquaponics is a cultivation system that can save water usage by up to 97% compared to conventional methods. This system also maintains water quality through synergistic interactions between fish and plants, creating a more productive environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of various ornamental fish that can be cultivated in the aquaponic system. Based on the results obtained regarding ornamental fish cultivated in the aquaponic system, there are several types of ornamental fish that have been cultivated such as goldfish, koi fish and comet fish. The aquaponic system can also increase the growth value of length and weight, daily growth rate and survival rate of ornamental fish by 90% - 100%.

Abstract

The IMTA cultivation system is a cultivation system that combines several commodities with different trophic levels. In an effort to increase the productivity and sustainability of shrimp cultivation, the Pond-Water Integration (IMTA) system has emerged as a solution in the field of cultivation. Tiger shrimp cultivation using the IMTA system is a combination of two or three cultivation commodities, where nutritional/feed waste from higher level animals is consumed by lower level thropic animals. This research aims to determine the influence of the IMTA system on the growth of tiger prawns. The method used in this research is exploratory descriptive from various literature and research results that have been published, either from books, national journals or international journals. Based on a comparison of the results of previous research, it can be concluded that the IMTA system has a significant effect on the growth of tiger prawns, there are real differences in growth such as weight gain, relative growth rate, and survival rate of tiger prawns (P. monodon).

Abstract

Fish farming is highly dependent on the use of feed, which can even account for up to 70% of the total cost of farming. Therefore, the availability of quality feed in sufficient quantities is a key factor in ensuring successful farming. However, feed with high protein content tends to be expensive. The solution to this problem is to use alternative feed raw materials that have good nutritional content, do not compete with human needs, and are easy to obtain. Organic waste from corn harvest residues has great potential because it is easy to obtain and cheap. Corn waste has the problem of low nutritional content, so a fermentation process is needed as an effort to increase its nutritional value. This study aims to examine the extent to which the utilization of fermented corn waste can be used as fish feed to support increased fish growth performance.

Abstract

Aquaculture using the Floating Net Cage (FNCs) system has rapidly developed and become an important economic source, but it also poses environmental pressures such as pollution and eutrophication. Jatigede and Jatiluhur Reservoirs serve as examples of water bodies affected by the accumulation of aquaculture waste, despite having different legal statuses and management approaches. This study aims to evaluate the environmental impacts of FNCs aquaculture in both reservoirs and to formulate sustainable management strategies that balance economic and ecological aspects. The findings indicate that FNCs activities are prohibited in Jatigede through local regulations; however, illegal practices persist due to economic reasons, with simple farming systems centered on Nile tilapia. In contrast, Jatiluhur allows FNCs operations under a permit system, but the number of cages has exceeded the environmental carrying capacity, with more intensive farming practices using high levels of supplementary feed. Ecological impacts such as eutrophication occur in both reservoirs, with a more severe scale in Jatiluhur. Sustainable management efforts are urgently needed, including alternative livelihoods, regulation of FNCs numbers, and education on environmentally friendly aquaculture practices.
