Abstract

Tourism is a strategic sector that significantly contributes to Indonesia’s economy, especially in Bali as an international destination. Service quality and staff language proficiency are important factors in shaping a satisfying tourist experience. This study aims to analyze tourists’ perceptions of service quality and staff language proficiency at La Brisa Bali, a popular beach club in Canggu, Bali. A quantitative approach with a descriptive-verificative method and purposive sampling technique was used to collect data from 80 tourist respondents. Service quality measurement refers to the five SERVQUAL dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy), while language proficiency was assessed based on fluency, clarity of communication, and the use of foreign languages, particularly English. The results show that tourists rate La Brisa Bali’s service quality as good to very good, with an average score of 4.25. The reliability dimension received the highest score, indicating consistent and dependable service that satisfies visitors. Staff language proficiency also received a good rating (average 4.10), supporting effective interaction with international tourists. However, there remains room for improvement in staff responsiveness, empathy, and communication skills. These findings provide a strategic basis for La Brisa’s management to enhance service quality and staff language proficiency, aiming to strengthen tourist loyalty and maintain its reputation as a premium tourism destination in Bali.

Abstract

Abstract

A computational model to study the phosphate transport in the coastal environment was presented. It calculation involves the external sources of photosphate matter from the river discharge. The phosphjate distribution within the bay forced by tidal current, was calculated by Pricenton Ocean Model (POM) 2-dimension (barotropic mode). The tidal current obtained from simulation, shown a reasonably good agreement with in-situ tidal level data at Benoa tidal gauge station. The phosphate transport is generated by two-river discharge within the bay and three sources respected by wastewater treatment in Nusa Dua Bali, vessel parking area and waste garbage dump in suwung, respectively. The result confirm that a good agreement with the experiment data carried out within the bay. Keywords : phosphate transport, Princeton Ocean Model (POM)

Abstract

This study explores the English communication needs of hotel receptionists in supporting the implementation of green tourism practices. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis in three eco-certified hotels. The findings reveal that English communication is crucial not only for routine guest interactions but also for promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable behavior among international visitors. Receptionists perform various communicative tasks, including explaining eco-friendly programs, persuading guest participation, and clarifying sustainability policies. However, they face challenges such as limited environmental vocabulary, cross-cultural communication barriers, and insufficient institutional training. Despite these limitations, receptionists employ adaptive strategies such as language simplification, visual aids, and contextualization to convey sustainability messages effectively. The study highlights the need for specialized English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs that integrate environmental and intercultural communication skills. It concludes that empowering hotel receptionists with targeted language training enhances not only service quality but also the hotel’s capacity to promote sustainable tourism values. Thus, effective English communication serves as both a linguistic tool and a strategic means of fostering green tourism in the hospitality industry.
