Abstract

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of a baby's life has been shown to have many health benefits, and one of them is that it can help prevent stunting in toddlers. Stunting is when a child's physical growth and brain development are hampered due to chronic malnutrition, especially protein, energy, and other essential nutrients. Objective: Know the role of exclusive breastfeeding in preventing stunting in toddlers. Methods: Type of quantitative analytical research with a case-control design using a retrospective approach. The population in this study was mothers who had toddlers aged 12–60 months, while the determination of subjects was based on simple random sampling techniques. The inclusion criteria were mothers with stunting toddlers aged 12–60 months and mothers willing to be respondents. The exclusion criteria are toddlers who suffer from chronic diseases and have a history of premature birth. The subjects in this study were 70 toddlers, consisting of 35 stunting toddlers as an intervention group and 35 non-stunting toddlers as controls. Results showed that toddlers who were exclusively breastfed and stunted were 15 (42.9%), while toddlers who were not exclusively breastfed and stunted were 20 (57.1%). Bivariate analysis showed an association between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting (p-value 0.030). Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding can prevent stunting in toddlers. Exclusive breastfeeding can make a significant contribution to stunting prevention; other factors such as public health, sanitation, and access to nutrition also play an important role. Therefore, a holistic approach must be applied to support children's growth and development

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children; prevention has been attempted. One of the efforts is to form community empowerment cadres, namely posyandu cadres. Increasing the capacity of posyandu cadres is a strengthening of health education that can increase knowledge of the condition of individuals, families, and communities while maintaining healthy conditions and playing an active role in realizing optimal health status. This service activity aims to build the capacity of posyandu cadres to prevent and handle stunting. The results of service activities are an increasing understanding of toddler and pregnant women's nutrition seen from monitoring. The conclusion is that posyandu cadres can explain the importance of participating in posyandu activities every month, see the healthy development of toddlers and pregnant women using an interpersonal communication approach, and weigh and measure the baby's head circumference well. The filling of KMS has also been written correctly; this indicates an increase in the ability and skills of posyandu cadres.

Abstract

A healthy lifestyle from an early age is an important foundation to support children's growth and development and prevent various diseases in the future. This Community Service Program aims to provide education about healthy living culture to children, to increase their awareness of the importance of maintaining physical and mental health. This activity is carried out through interactive and fun approaches, such as educational games, picture stories, and simulations of healthy living practices, including handwashing habits, a balanced diet, physical activity, and the importance of maintaining a clean environment. The method used involves the active participation of children and mentoring from parents or teachers to ensure the sustainability of the practices taught. The evaluation was carried out by measuring the improvement of children's understanding through pre-test and post-test as well as direct observation of changes in their behavior. The results of this program show a significant increase in children's knowledge and awareness of a healthy living culture. This program is expected to be a model that can be replicated in various communities to create a healthier and more productive generation.

Abstract

Abstract: Based on preliminary studies conducted at RSUD Sheikh Yusuf, data related to the implementation of Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) shows a significant number. In 2022, the number of mothers who gave birth at the hospital was recorded at 1,541 people, and of these, 1,264 mothers successfully underwent IMD. This indicates a fairly high rate of IMD implementation in that year. However, in September 2023, although the number of mothers who gave birth was recorded at 82 people, only 66 mothers were able to carry out IMD. The purpose of the study was to determine the correlation between maternal aspects and early breastfeeding initiation. The research design used in this study was Cross Sectional. The research was conducted at Sheikh Yusuf Hospital. The research was conducted in December 2023. The population was all new mothers who gave birth at Sheikh Yusuf Hospital in November 2023 as many as 64 people. The sample amounted to 64 people using Total Sampling. The research instrument used a research questionnaire. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate. The results showed a relationship between maternal knowledge (p value: 0.038) and maternal health status (p value: 0.029) on Early Breastfeeding Initiation. It is recommended that the hospital can carry out monitoring and evaluation activities and appoint a person in charge of monitoring the implementation of Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) so that it can be carried out properly. Keywords: Early Breastfeeding Initiation, Maternal Knowledge, Maternal Health Status

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical period that requires comprehensive knowledge and adequate health care to ensure maternal and fetal well-being. However, many pregnant women, especially in rural or underserved areas, often lack access to accurate information and resources related to pregnancy care. This community service program aims to increase pregnant women’s knowledge and awareness regarding essential aspects of prenatal care through community-based health education. The activity was conducted in collaboration with local health centers and involved 30 pregnant women from the X village area in the third trimester. The method used was interactive health education delivered through counseling sessions, visual aids, and discussion forums, facilitated by professional nurses specializing in maternal care. Pre and post-intervention questionnaires were used to measure knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge, particularly in Nutrition, danger signs during pregnancy, the importance of antenatal visits, and personal hygiene. Participants reported feeling more confident and prepared to manage their pregnancy after the intervention. This program demonstrates that structured, community-based education can effectively empower pregnant women to make informed decisions and adopt healthier behaviors, ultimately reducing maternal and neonatal risks
