Abstract

This study investigates the structural performance of High Damper Rubber Bearings (HDRB) as base isolators in reinforced concrete (RC) buildings subjected to seismic loads. Given the potential for damage or collapse in RC buildings during earthquakes, the utilization of base isolators offers a promising solution to mitigate seismic risks. Finite element analysis was employed to assess the displacement efficiency of different HDRB configurations, focusing on the SMP 5 Muhammadiyah building in Surabaya as a case study. Results indicate that HDRB type HH090X6R exhibits superior performance, achieving displacement efficiencies of 90.56% in the x-direction and 95.87% in the y-direction. These findings underscore the importance of selecting optimal base isolator configurations to enhance the seismic resilience of RC structures. The study's implications extend to seismic retrofitting and structural design practices, offering valuable insights for improving the seismic performance of existing buildings and bolstering community resilience to earthquakes.

Abstract

Engineered cementitious composite (ECC) is a composite that has better tensile properties and behavior than concrete. ECCs are usually made of cement, water, silica sand, cementitious materials, fibers, and other additives. The term ECC mortar is used because the ECC does not use fiber. The cementitious material in this research uses palm shell ash, with a proportion of 5%, 10%, and 15% of the cement weight. As a replacement for the fiber, crumb rubbers are used, with proportions of 2.5%; 5%; 7.5%; 10% and 12.5% of the cement weight. Workability was measured based on slumpflow tests (with measurements T500 and slumpflow diameter). The objective of this study is to establish the workability of fresh mix of the ECC mortar and CR-ECC with variations in the addition of palm shell ash, cement, sand and crumb rubber. Based on the results of slumpflow tests, the average diameter for fresh ECC mortars ranges between 88 cm to 106.5 cm, and the T500 ranges from 0.28 seconds to 1.39 seconds. As for fresh CR-ECC mix, the mean slumpflow diameter is between 71 cm to 93 cm and the T500 ranging between 0.90 seconds and 1.68 seconds. All of these values meet the slumpflow requirements stipulated by EFNARC. Nevertheless, the workability of the fresh mix ECC mortar is more flowable than the fresh mix CR-ECC. This is because crumb rubbers are water-absorbing.

Abstract

Komposit yang memiliki sifat dan perilaku tarik yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan beton sering dikenal dengan sebutan engineered cementitious composites (ECC). ECC biasanya terbuat dari semen, air, pasir silika, material cementitious, serat, dan bahan tambah lainnya dengan proporsi tertentu. Istilah mortar ECC digunakan karena ECC tersebut tidak menggunakan serat. Abu cangkang sawit (ACS) digunakan sebagai material cementitious pada riset ini. Sedangkan sebagai pengganti serat, digunakan crumb rubber (dengan proporsi 2,5%; 5%; 7,5%; 10% dan 12,5% dari berat semen) untuk membentuk CR-ECC. Workability diukur berdasarkan uji slumpflow yaitu pengukuran T500 dan diameter slumpflow. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meninjau penggunaan variasi crumb rubber terhadap slumpflow adukan segar CR-ECC yang berbasis abu cangkang sawit. Berdasarkan hasil dari pengujian slumpflow, diperoleh diameter sebaran slumpflow rata-rata (D) dari adukan segar CR-ECC terletak antara 710 mm sampai dengan 930 mm, sedangkan waktu sebaran slumpflow (T500) dari adukan segar CR-ECC yaitu berkisar antara 0,90 detik sampai dengan 1,68 detik. Hasil pengujian slumpflow dari adukan segar CR-ECC menunjukkan workability yang baik, dan sudah sesuai dengan ketentuan standar. Penggunaan crumb rubber dapat mempengaruhi workability karena factor daya serapnya terhadap air, namun keterlibatan penggunaan superplasticizer ternyata sangat berperan dalam mempertahankan workability adukan segar CR-ECC, sekalipun nilai faktor air semen (f.a.s) konstan.
