Abstract

Renewable energy source likes solar panel and wind turbine have intermittent character from instability power source generated. The instability power source can make dip voltage in power grid which happen in half cycle until few seconds. To stabilize the voltage in power grid from dip voltage, some methods have been developed using power electronics technology like VSI inverter, STATCOM, energy storage, OLTC, and MERS. The power electronic circuits have some advantages, such as small dimensional size and lightweight to keep voltage in power grid. In this paper, the MERS circuit was applied in induction motor which has small full bridge circuit, uncomplexity computation, and low switching frequency, so it needs low end hardware requirement. This paper proposed the use of MERS dc capacitor with 50% value from induction motor resistance. The result shows that MERS has advantage and can keep the voltage in power grid when the voltage below 39% and 15% above rated voltage (220 Vrms) with the recovery time around 0.3 second and keep the dip voltage over 1 second.

Abstract

The condition of the electricity system in the Papua region still has an electrification ratio of 94% with a high electricity generation cost of IDR3,041/kWh. In addition, the existing electricity system still consists of over 100 small systems, the majority of which are diesel power plants. One of the systems is the Tanah Merah area, with a population of 19,136 people and an energy demand of 6.89 GWh. The region is projected to experience expansion and population growth, resulting in a corresponding rise in the demand for electrical energy. Therefore, planning for the development of power plant systems needs to be done to meet the growing demand for electrical energy. Planning in remote areas is typically done for a short-term timeframe spanning from 2025 to 2030, involving the optimization process of several proposed power plant candidates. The proposed candidate power plants consider gas and fuel supply, as well as the availability of local primary energy and technology. Optimization will minimize the total cost of the to-be-selected power plant, which has features including initial investment costs, ongoing operation and maintenance costs, fuel expenses, and the residual value of the assets throughout the planned duration. In planning, a greenhouse gas emission reduction of 29% and an energy mix proportion of 23% need to be considered in accordance with government policy. Therefore, two scenarios covering both economic and environmental aspects were considered in the simulation process, namely the business as usual (BaU) scenario and the nationally determined contributions (NDC) scenario for emission limitation. Optimization was developed based on mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) performed in HOMER software. The simulation results indicate that the electricity generation cost for the BaU scenario is more economical compared to the NDC scenario at IDR2,559.8/kWh versus IDR3,104.64/kWh.

Abstract

Semakin tinggi PLTB, nilai CF semakin besar dengan konstanta 0,0030.Kata kunci: elektrifikasi, faktor kapasitas, PLTB, PLTD, sistem hibrida ABSTRACTThe electrification ratio in Indonesia has not reached 100%, the causes include problems with the location in remote areas or islands and the high operating costs of diesel power plant (DPP). One solution is to generate electricity based on local renewable energy. The initial stage of utilizing renewable energy needs to calculate the capacity factor (CF). The purpose of this research is to analyze CF for wind turbine generator (WTG) with analytical calculation methods based on wind energy potential, technology specifications of WTG and DPP, load profiles and electrical energy that can be produced for hybrid system development by taking the case in Elat Serau Island, Maluku. The results of CF calculations for 5 different WTG technologies with altitude variations in Elat have been verified by simulation using HOMER software with a mean error value of -0.030. The higher the WTG, the greater the CF value with a constant of 0.0030.Keywords: electrification, capacity factor, diesel power plant, wind turbine generator, hybrid system

Abstract

Solid-state transformer (SST) could be a solution for a future distribution system, in which many renewable energy sources (RES) are integrated. The SST consists of a single-phase dual-active bridge (DAB) converter, which is scale-down the dc voltage level. The control objective of the DAB converter used in the SST is to control its output voltage. This control strategy consists of a proportional-integral (PI) controller and a single-phase shift (SPS) modulation. Numerous literatures have mentioned about the SPS modulation for the DAB converter. However, they do not provide procedures in implementing the SPS modulation in the real controller. This paper aims to develop the SPS modulation in the real controller of the STM32F446RE microcontroller. The proposed SPS modulation is based on a master-slave timer feature, which is available in the STM32 microcontroller. The development process and testing of the complete control strategy of the DAB converter were carried out in the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation using Typhoon HIL. This scheme speeds up the development of process and reduces the costs. The experiment in the HIL environment shows that proposed control strategy of the DAB converter consisting of the PI controller and the SPS modulation is successfully implemented in the real microcontroller of the STM32F446RE. The proposed control strategy of the DAB converter is capable of bidirectional power flow, which is useful for integrating distributed generators in the load side. Moreover, this control strategy can reject the disturbance caused by loads.
