Abstract

Kata kunci: Diabetes Mellitus, diet, persepsi, pola, Rational Emotive Therapy   Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition that requires lifelong treatment, including proper diet management. However, changing perceptions and dietary behavior in DM clients is not an easy thing. Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) can help clients identify and change irrational beliefs related to diet so they can have a more positive outlook and adopt healthy eating patterns. The research aimed to analyze the influence of Rational Emotive Therapy on changes in perceptions and diet patterns in Diabetes Mellitus clients.  Subject and method: The research sample consisted of 40 patients of type 2 DM. This research was a pre-experimental design with one treatment group undergoing pre-test and post-test after being given RET for 4 weeks. Data collection was carried out using diet perception and diet pattern questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The results of the research showed changes in perception and diet pattern in DM clients with test results between before and after of intervention, result of p=0.001 for diet perception and p=0.005 for diet pattern. The conclusion showed that Rational Emotive Therapy influences changes in perceptions and dietary patterns in Diabetes Mellitus clients.   Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, dietary, perception, pattern, Rational Emotive Therapy.

The program was followed by evaluation for 2 weeks and pre and post tests were conducted. Results: The results obtained data on the characteristics, knowledge, attitudes and skills of Genre-Smart youth cadres. Discussion: The Genre-Smart program using presentation, demonstration and simulation methods is considered effective for changing adolescent behavior, but organizations in the community need to be regulated in policies in the form of decrees so that they have legal force. Hope that the program that has been implemented will be supported by the coaches and stakeholders in the local area.

Abstract

Introduction & Aim: Diabetes Mellitus patients with uncontrolled blood glucose levels for a long time will experience peripheral neuropathy complications with symptoms of tingling, numbness, pain in the feet, and disability in carrying out daily activities. The purpose of this community service was to evaluate Buerger Allen Exercise and 5 Pillars’ education on the knowledge and physical health performance of peripheral neuropathy diabetic patients. Method of Activity: Buerger Allen Exercise and 5 Pillars’ education was conducted on 28 diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy who had previously been examined at the Gundih regional health center. This community service was carried out for 6 weeks at Jalan Kedinding RT 10 RW 01 Bubutan Surabaya with several stages of activity, namely: initial survey, education, application, assistance, and evaluation. Evaluated community behavior includes knowledge and physical health performance of diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients through measurement of the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI), peripheral oxygen saturation in the feet (StO2), and physical activity ability. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test and Paired t-test to evaluate the results of the service. Results: There were changes in community behavior such as knowledge increased by 21.5% (p=0.000); normal ABI by 57.1% (p=0.004); totally independent physical activity ability 92.9% (p=0.003), and normal StO2 100% (p=0.000). Discussion: Buerger Allen Exercise Education Assistance and 5 Pillars of Diabetes Mellitus provide optimal results in the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients to prevent other complications such as diabetic ulcers, and amputation due to foot tissue death.

Samples were taken in Sidokumpul Bungah Gresik village with 30 respondents for two months from population of 32 respondents. The independent variables were demographic factors (information resource, employment, education level, and parity) and knowledge level. The dependent variable was the implementation of postpartum gymnastic. The instruments used were questionnaires and implementation of postpartum gymnastic check list. The research data were analyzed using Regression Linier. Result & Analysis. The results of the Linear Regression statistical test showed that demographic factors (sources of information, employment, and education) and the level of knowledge affect the implementation of postpartum gymnastic in normal postpartum mothers. The correlation number for the level of knowledge is the greatest (r = 0.785) so that it has the strongest level of influence of the relationship with the implementation of postpartum gymnastic. The relationship between the two variables is unidirectional, so it means that the level of knowledge is increased then the implementation of postpartum gymnastic will increase. Discussion. This research is expected to be able to make information on nurse intervention increase patient knowledge in the implementation of postpartum gymnastic so as to help accelerate recovery of postpartum mothers.
