Abstract

Non-communicable diseases have shown a changing trend, marked by a continuous increase in morbidity and mortality rates, with stroke being one of the leading causes. Among stroke patients, approximately 21% to 38% experience aphasia, a disorder that affects communication skills, particularly in understanding and expressing language. Effective rehabilitation is crucial to restoring these functions. Two non-pharmacological interventions, Oral Motor Exercise and Semantic Divergent Therapy, have been recognized for their potential to enhance speech ability in stroke survivors. This study aimed to determine the effect of combining Oral Motor Exercise and Semantic Divergent Therapy on improving speech ability in stroke patients. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach was used, involving 40 participants selected through purposive sampling. The intervention group received both therapies, while the control group underwent AIUEO therapy. Results showed that the mean speech score of the intervention group increased from 15.40 to 20.85, while the control group's score rose from 15.30 to 19.45. The Independent T-test analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between groups. These findings demonstrate that Oral Motor Exercise combined with Semantic Divergent Therapy effectively enhances speech ability in stroke patients. Therefore, this combined approach is recommended as an effective non-pharmacological rehabilitation intervention to support recovery and improve communication functions after stroke.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension in Indonesia affects 30.8% of adults, with contributing factors including diet, smoking, physical activity, and stress. An initial survey in the Lingkar Timur Community Health Center area found data on 781 adults with hypertension. Based on interviews with 10 hypertensive patients, it was found that they only underwent pharmacological therapy and were unaware that inspiratory muscle training techniques could lower blood pressure. Objectives: The purpose ofithis study was to assess the influence of Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) on the blood pressure of hypertensive late adults within the Lingkar Timur Health Center's jurisdiction. Methods: This was a quasi-experimentalistudy with a total sample of 44 participants, divided into an intervention group (n=22) and a control group (n=22). Non-probability sampling with a purposive method was used, selecting respondents based on inclusion criteria: late adult age, systolic blood pressure >140 mmHg, and diastolic blood pressure >90 mmHg. Results: Statistical analysis, utilizing the independent t-test for systolic blood pressure and the Mann-Whitney U test for diastolic blood pressure, revealed a p-value of α≤0.05. This signifies a statistically significant outcome of Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) on the blood pressure of hypertensive patients. Conclusion: Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) effectively lowers blood pressure for late adults in conjuction with hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a leading cause of degenerative diseases and death worldwide. Hypertension control efforts rely not only on pharmacological therapy but also on non-pharmacological interventions such as relaxation. Light massage and alternate nostril breathing exercises (ANBE) are complementary therapies known to help lower blood pressure. Purpose: To determine the effect of the combination of light massage and ANBE on changes in blood pressure in patients with hypertension. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest approach with a control group. The study was conducted from August to November 2025 in the Telaga Dewa Community Health Center area, Bengkulu City. A total of 42 participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group receiving light massage and ANBE, and a control group receiving slow deep breathing, each consisting of 21 participants. The interventions were administered twice daily for five days. The data were then analyzed using statistical tests according to the data distribution. Results: There was a significant difference between blood pressure before and after treatment in both groups (p = 0.001). The combination of light massage and ANBE was shown to significantly reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure with a p-value of 0.012 (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of light massage and ANBE is effective in lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension.   Keywords: Alternate Nostril Breathing Exercise (ANBE); Blood Pressure; Hypertension; Light Massage.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global health issue, with diabetic ulcers being a common complication and a high mortality rate. In 2021, around 576 million people worldwide had DM, and this number is projected to reach 643 million by 2030 and 787 million by 2045. The healing process of these ulcers is accelerated in a moist environment and with the use of appropriate primary dressings, such as Calcium Alginate. Objective: The aim is to determine the effect of Calcium Alginate primary dressing on the acceleration of diabetic ulcer healing during the proliferative phase. Methods: This research uses a quantitative study design with a quasi-experimental approach with a control group, employing a pre-test and post-test design. Respondents were divided into two groups: the intervention group and the control group. The intervention group received treatment with calcium alginate, while the control group received treatment with zinc cream. The sample was selected using the consecutive sampling technique. Results: The results of the research indicate a significant difference in the average rate of diabetic ulcer healing between the intervention and control groups. Conclusions: The statistical test was performed using an independent sample T-Test, resulting in a p-value of 0.000 (p ≤ α 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the Calcium Alginate primary dressing on the acceleration of diabetic ulcer healing during the proliferative phase, thus supporting its use in enhancing the healing process of diabetic ulcers in this phase.
