Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), which has a higher prevalence compared to other regions. This community service activity was carried out in Buar Village, North Rahong Subdistrict, Manggarai Regency by a team from Santu Paulus Ruteng Catholic University. The implementation methods included collecting stunting data from the health department, conducting interviews with the village head, an initial assessment of community understanding, educational outreach, mentoring, and a final evaluation. Initial assessments showed that only 30% of the community understood issues related to nutrition and stunting, primarily those with higher education levels. After educational sessions led by four expert speakers and interactive mentoring, community understanding significantly increased to 75%. This activity demonstrates that community-based education is effective in raising public nutrition awareness. The sustainability of stunting prevention efforts requires cross-sector collaboration among the government, community members, traditional leaders, and educational institutions so that knowledge change can be translated into real, everyday behaviors.

Abstract

The integration of local culture into elementary social studies instruction has become increasingly important in promoting culturally responsive and meaningful education. To create a more meaningful and contextually relevant learning environment, this qualitative case study aims to investigate how teachers integrate local cultural values into their instructional strategies. Ten elementary school teachers were purposefully selected to participate in the study, and data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and a review of lesson plans and instructional materials. Patterns and themes in the data were found using thematic analysis. The results show that teachers utilize field studies, local folktales, and collaborative studies with community leaders to incorporate local culture creatively. However, challenges such as limited cultural relevance in textbooks and the lack of teaching resources hinder the effectiveness of integration. The study concludes that integrating local culture enhances students' cognitive and emotional engagement with the material, fostering a stronger cultural identity and character development. Recommendations for future research include expanding the study's scope to include more schools, examining the long-term effects on students' social and character development, and fostering greater collaboration between schools and local communities.

Abstract

Abstract

Social Studies textbooks within local cultural contexts often fail to adequately represent the diversity of knowledge, traditions, and social practices, which may limit students’ connection to their own cultural identities. This issue is important to examine because textbooks play a strategic role in shaping students’ social understanding, values, and perspectives. This study aims to analyze and explore gender and ethnic representations in elementary Social Studies textbooks and to identify forms of bias embedded within the content. This research employed a qualitative approach, with the research subject consisting of Social Studies textbooks used at the elementary school level. Data were collected through document analysis, using content analysis guidelines and discourse analysis frameworks as research instruments. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis to identify patterns, themes, and the frequency of gender and ethnic representations, as well as critical discourse analysis to examine how language constructs meaning, identity, and power relations. The findings reveal a dominance of male representation in leadership and innovation roles, while female characters are more frequently portrayed in domestic roles. In addition, ethnic minority groups tend to be marginalized within historical and social narratives. These results indicate that the language and narrative structures of the textbooks continue to reproduce social biases that shape students’ perceptions of gender and ethnic roles. Therefore, this study concludes that curriculum revision and the development of more inclusive, equitable, and representative Social Studies textbooks are necessary to support education that is sensitive to social and cultural diversity.

Abstract

The problem in this study is that teachers have not optimally implemented individual learning strategies for slow learner students. This study aims to describe the learning strategies used by fourth-grade teachers in assisting slow learner students at SDK Golo Momol and to identify the inhibiting factors in the learning process for these students. This study used a qualitative research approach with a descriptive method. The subjects of this study consisted of the fourth-grade teacher and six fourth-grade students at SDK Golo Momol who experienced slow learning. The methods used for data collection were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used in this study were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.strategies used by the teacher in assisting slow learner students include adaptive learning strategies, individual learning strategies, repetition strategies, concrete or contextual learning strategies, motivational strategies, and multisensory learning strategies; (2) the inhibiting factors in the learning process include low student concentration, slow understanding of the material, limited teacher time for assistance, limited learning facilities and infrastructure, a relatively large number of students in the classroom, and a less conducive learning environment.Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the learning strategies implemented by the fourth-grade teacher in assisting slow learner students have been carried out through various approaches tailored to students’ needs. However, their implementation has not been optimal due to various inhibiting factors. Therefore, it is necessary to develop more effective and sustainable learning strategies to improve the quality of learning and the learning outcomes of slow learner students This study is important because slow learners require learning services that are tailored to their characteristics and needs. The lack of appropriate learning strategies can lead to difficulties in understanding learning materials and low academic achievement. In addition, studies specifically examining teachers' learning strategies in assisting slow learners at SDK Golo Momol are still limited. Therefore, this study is expected to contribute to the development of more effective and inclusive learning practices.
