Abstract

The purpose of this research to obtain the best concentration ratio of stabilizer CMC and gum arabic in making of avocado velva. This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications followed by DNMRT test at 5% level. The treatments in this research was CG1(stabilizer CMC:arabic gum=0:1), CG2 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 1:2), CG3 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 1:1), CG4 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 2:1) dan CG5 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum=1:0). The result of analyis of variance showed that variations combination of stabilizer CMC and gum arabic has significantly affected the overrun, melting rate, total dissolved solid and sensory value on descriptive and hedonic attribute texture. Variations ratio of stabilizer CMC and gum arabic on descriptive and hedonic did not significantly affected attribute colour, flavour and taste of avocado velva. The best treatment in this research was CG4 (stabilizer CMC:arabic gum= 2:1) with overrun 20.30%, melting rate 24.19 minutes, total dissolved solid 32.12 °brix, yellow colour, avocado flavour, avocado taste and soft texture. Keywords: velva, CMC, gum arabic

Abstract

Increasing need of energy and decreasing of fuel supply requires human to discover alternative energy resources. Consequently, there should be a research to discover a new renewable energy source such as palm leaves waste. Oil palm’s leaves (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) are mostly the least used waste from oil palm plantation as an alternative energy resources. This research aims to discover the precise adhesive consentration rate in sago’s starch (Metroxylon sago Rott.) to make oil palm’s kernel, which are 97%:3%, 96%:4%, 95%:5%, 94%:6%, and 93%:7%. Based on analitycal result of oil palm’s leaves charcoal briquet research, the best quality briquet is the P1 composition which composed rate is 97%:3%, has 3,21% water content, 30,18% ashes content, 0,0022 g/s combustion rate, 20,73% evaporated substance rate, 54,46% carbon rate, and 5.114 cal/g heat value.  Keywords : briquet, oil palm’s leaves, sago starch adhesive.

Abstract

Avocado seed contain amylose which could be raw material of making edible film. However, edible film  was resulted have durability to low water. Therefore, needed add material hidrofobic which would increase of durability to water of edible film one of is beeswax. This research was conducted experimentaly by used Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatmens and three replications which followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The treatment in this research were B1 (beeswax 5%), B2 (beeswax 10%), B3 (beeswax 15%), B4 (beeswax 20%) and B5 (beeswax 25%). The results of variance analysis showed that addition of concentrations beeswax gave significantly affect on thickness, solubility, water of uptake and water of transfer edible film. The best formulations was obtained on the edible film with addition 5% beeswax which has thickness of 0.28 mm, solubility of 23.59%, water of uptake 313.35% and water of transfer 0.23 g.m-2.hour. Keywords: avocado seed, edible film, beeswax

Abstract

Rubber can be used as a source of wood raw materials for various uses such as wood fanel, pulp and paper products, furniture and other processed wood products. The aim of the research was to get the characteristic part of rubber stem physical of  non-productive rubber stem in the base, middle, and of the tree end. The experiment was conducted using experimental method using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisted of three treatments and five replications to obtain 15 experimental units and continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) test at 5% level. The treatments in this study included rubber stem at the base (K1), rubber stem in the middle (K2) and rubber stem at the end (K3). The results of variance analysis showed that the treatment at the base, middle, and rubber stem ends significantly affected the specific gravity of wood produced from rubber stem ranging from 0.779 to 0.606 kg/cm3. Wood water content generated from rubber stem ranged from 5.306 to 7.485%. Shrinkage of radial wood resulting from rubber stem ranged from 4.327 to 5.681%, and the tangential depreciation resulting from the rubber stem ranged from 4.685 to 5.813%.                                                         Keywords: rubber stem, physical properties, wood raw materials

Abstract

This study aims to get the best ratio between corncobs and rubber seed shells in making of charcoal briquettes. The study was carried out experimentally using a completely randomized design method which consisting of 5 treatments and 3 replications to obtain 15 experimental units. The treatments in the study were ratio of corncob charcoal and rubber seed shell charcoal as follows: P1 (90:10), P2 (80: 20), P3 (70 : 30), P4 (60: 40), and P5 (50: 50). The parameters observed in this study were water content, ash content, volatile matter content, bound carbon content, density, and calorific value. The results of variance showed that the percentage of corncobs and rubber seed shells gave a significant effect on water content, volatile matter content, and bound carbon content. Based on the results of the analysis, the best treatment in this study was P5 (50: 50), with 7.12% water content, 3.11% ash content, 17.25% evaporating content, 72.51% bound carbon content, and 0.42 g/cm3 density. Keywords: corncobs, rubber seed shells, briquettes

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain the best combination of midribs and oil palm empty fruit bunches on the characteristics of bioarang briquettes produced. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (RAL) with five treatments and three replications, in order to obtain 15 units. The treatment in this study is the difference of percentage midribs and oil palm empty fruit bunches, namely (P1 = 25% : 65%, P 2= 35%: 55%, P3 = 45%: 45%, P4 = 55%: 35%, and P5 = 65%: 25%), with 10% tapioca adhesive. The analysis tested in this study were water content, ash content, volatile substance content, carbon rate, and heating value. The results of variance showed that the percentage of midribs and oil palm empty bunches gave a significant effect on water content, volatile substance content, ash content, carbon rate, and heating value. The best formulation selected was P1 25% midrib and 65% oil palm empty bunches with water content of 6.79%, volatile substance content 8.99%, ash content 9.51%, carbon rate 74.70%, and heating value 5742.80 kal/g.

Abstract

Durian seeds and jackfruit seeds are agricultural waste containing high starch, which can be used as raw material for biodegradable plastic. The purpose of this research was to get the best formulation on the making of biodegradable plastic based on starch of durian seed and starch of jackfruit seed with addition of beeswax. This research was conducted experimentaly by using complete randomized design (CRD) which consists of five treatments and three replications, thus analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The treatments in this research were P1 (starch of jackfruit seed 5%), P2 (starch of durian seed 1,25% : starch of jackfruit seed 3,75%), P3 (starch of durian seed 2,5% : starch of jackfruit seed 2,5%), P4 (starch of durian seed 3,75% : starch of jackfruit seed 1,25%), and P5 (starch of durian seed 5%) in formulation of biodegradable plastic. The best treatment was P2 which has a thickness of 0,76 mm, water resistance of 59,19%, water vapor transmission rate of 4,53 g/cm2/h, tensile strength of 21,57 MPa, and elongation of 6,58%.
