Abstract

Critical thinking skills are one of the skills needed in the 21st century. In one of the junior high schools in Pasuruan, students' critical thinking skills are low, so they still need improvement. The goal of this research was the creation of a learning media for an educational kit based on PjBLSTEAM that is considered worthy of being tested for its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in training junior high school students' critical thinking skills on water pollution material. The development procedure was based on the ADDIE model (analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate) with data collection techniques using interviews, questionnaires, and pretest-posttest questions. Data analysis techniques were applied using qualitative descriptive techniques, percentage analysis, validity tests, practicality, and effectiveness tests from the paired sample Ttest and N-Gain tests. The results of the media and material validation tests were shown to meet very valid criteria. The results from the teachers and students' feedback showed a very practical percentage. The media was considered effective, as evidenced by the results of the paired sample t-test, which indicated a difference in students' critical thinking scores before and after treatment, and the N-Gain test results, which showed a medium bar value. This research indicates that the learning media developed was valid, practical, and effective for training students' critical thinking skills

Abstract

The critical thinking skills of students in Indonesia remain below average, presenting a significant challenge in preparing students to meet the demands of the 21st century. This study aims to develop an independent curriculum e-module integrating the scientific approach with Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) to enhance critical thinking skills. The development process employs the ADDIE model, encompassing five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study involved seventh-grade students studying biodiversity. Qualitative data were collected through teacher interviews and questionnaires, while quantitative data were obtained from validator scores, teacher and student evaluations, as well as pre-test and post-test results. Data analysis included qualitative descriptive techniques, percentage analysis, validity and reliability tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, t-tests, and N-Gain tests. The validation results for media and materials reached 93.75% and 98.21%, respectively. Practicality assessments by teachers and students achieved 95.97% and 87.44%, respectively. The N-Gain test demonstrated moderate improvements across five critical thinking indicators. It can be concluded that the e-module is valid, practical, and effective for use in teaching and learning.

Abstract

This study investigates science learning outcomes on the topic Matter and Its Changes among seventh-grade students at MTs, with a focus on gender differences. Using a descriptive survey method, the entire population of 77 students (two male classes and two female classes) was involved. Data were collected through post-tests, questionnaires, observations, and interviews, and analyzed quantitatively using the Mann-Whitney U test. The results show that female students had significantly higher average learning outcomes (64.04) compared to male students (45.50). Further analysis revealed that female students performed better at cognitive levels C3, C4, and C5, as well as across all subtopics. Qualitative findings from teacher interviews suggest that this difference is consistent and may be attributed to female students’ ambition and logical reasoning, as observed in class. However, questionnaire data indicate that male students report higher self-confidence. The study concludes that gender differences significantly influence science learning outcomes, with implications for instructional strategies and gender-responsive teaching practice

Abstract

The 2015 TIMSS and 2018 PISA results show that Indonesia's science performance remains below the international average and declined further in 2022. This indicates students weak critical thinking skills (CTS) in understanding scientific concepts. An effective and interactive learning model is needed. This study aims to compare students' CTS using the traditional game in problem-based learning (TG-PBL) model and the problem-based learning (PBL) model. The research used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group and purposive sampling. Statistical tests included the paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test, and N-gain score. The independent t-test showed a significant difference between TG-PBL and PBL classes (0.000). The paired t-test showed a difference between pretest and posttest in both classes (0.000), with a greater increase in the TG-PBL class. The N-gain in the TG-PBL class was 0.57 (medium category), while in the PBL class it was 0.24 (low category). The highest improvement in the TG-PBL class was in the basic support indicator (0.630), while in the PBL class it was in strategies and tactics (0.398). The TG-PBL model is more effective in improving students CTS. It creates a more interactive, relevant, and innovative science learning environment in junior high schools

Abstract

The rapid development of the times in the 21st century is characterized by technological advances with increasingly complex problems so that creative thinking skills are needed by students. E-modules with STEM approach in EDP pattern collaborated with SSI can train students' creative thinking skills. The purpose of this research is to produce a valid and practical e-module with STEM approach of EDP pattern integrated with SSI and to test its effectiveness in encouragingstudents' creative thinking skills on excretory system material. The development was carried out with the ADDIE model consisting of 5 stages, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Qualitative data was obtainedthrough interviews with teachers, suggestions, and comments on the questionnaire. Quantitative data were obtained from the scores of validators, teachers, students, pretest and posttest. Data analysis used validity and reliability tests, normality tests,homogeneity tests, t-tests, and N-Gain tests. The results of the media and material validation test were 94.67% and 96.45%, respectively. The results of teacher and student practicality tests were 91.67% and 93.03%, respectively. The N-Gain test results showed a comparison of the effectiveness of low criteria in the control class and medium in the experimental class. It can be concluded that the developed e-module is valid, practical, and effective to train creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Science education in Indonesia faces challenges in improving students’ science literacy skills, which are often still low. The objectives of this study are to assess the impact of using the “ELGASE” learning media on improving students' science literacy skills and to identify differences in science literacy skills before and after the implementation of the “ELGASE” media. The method in this study was pre-experimental involving 22 students of class VIII. Data were obtained through observation, testing, and documentation collection methods, then analyzed using the normality test and the N-Gain test to evaluate changes in scores. The results showed that the use of “ELGASE” media provided a significant increase in students’ science literacy skills. This improvement is measured through a nonparametric test (Wilcoxon), which indicates the difference or comparison of pretest and posttest scores on each indicator. The study results indicate that the use of “ELGASE” media significantly improved students’ science literacy skills, with the N-Gain score for the first indicator being 0.80 (80%) and for the third indicator 0.92 (92%), classified as “Effective” and “Highly Effective”, respectively. Additionally, the second indicator showed an increase of 0.58 (58%), falling into the “Moderate” category, which demonstrates a medium level of effectiveness in enhancing students’ understanding of the taught material.  The conclusion of this research is that the “ELGASE” media is proven effective in improving students’ science literacy skills and can be recommended for use in science learning.

Abstract

This research is based on the limited use of learning media which results in students experiencing difficulties in understanding lessons and a lack of learning motivation, which impacts low learning outcomes. This research aims to develop valid, effective, and practical google sites multimedia to improve conceptual understanding and student motivation in the material of the digestive system. The research method used was research and development (RD) with the ADDIE model, namely: analyze, design, development, implementation, evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Validation by material experts showed a "very valid" category with a percentage of 87.74%, while media experts reached 90.22%. The effectiveness test produced a significance of 0.000 (0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pretest (63.28) and posttest (89.62) scores, with an average increase in N-Gain of 0.72 (high). The learning motivation questionnaire obtained a score of 88.77% (very high). The practicality test by teachers produced 99.10% and and user responses from students 92.07%, indicating this application is very practical. The research results prove that google sites is feasible, effective, and practical to use to improve students' conceptual understanding and motivation in the digestive system topic
