Abstract

The number of reported incidents of sexual violence continues to increase in Indonesia, giving rise to deep concerns and calls to prevent sexual violence from occurring in the future. Some experts call it “the Silent Epidemic” because it is estimated that the actual number of events is much higher than reported. Therefore, research on this issue needs to be continued to get input on the cause and effect, impact and prevention efforts. Researches on child sexual abuse and the impact throughout the lives of the survivors is highly important in providing scientific evidences for developing the interventions in social work practice. However, it also comes with very specific challenges when conducting a research on this issue. There are no specific guidelines regarding ethics and methodology in carrying out research on survivors of sexual violence.  Therefore, in the future it is important to consider the methodological and ethical aspects before embarking on a research involving survivors of sexual violence. Based on the experience of carrying out this research, the aspects that potentially harm or put participants and researchers at risk can be minimized or even avoided. This experience can also provide reinforcement that research involving trauma survivors can benefit both the affected population as well as social work scientists and practitioners. This manuscript discusses the current thinking on these issues.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with a high global prevalence, so efforts to reduce the prevalence of this disease are needed. This study aims to evaluate the role of psychological distress as a moderator in the relationship between perceived seriousness and adherence to diabetes management. A total of 107 type 2 diabetes patients aged 26-82 years participated in this study, with a percentage of women of 74.8%. This study is a cross-sectional study with a correlational research type that will measure the relationship between three variables, namely psychological distress, perceived threat, and adherence to diabetes management. The measuring instruments used are Perceived Seriousness, General Health Questionnaire-12, and Diabetes Activity Questionnaire. Data were processed using regression techniques with PROCESS v4.0 to see the moderation relationship between variables. The results of the moderation analysis showed that psychological stress significantly moderated the relationship between perceived seriousness and adherence. This study found that higher psychological distress was associated with a weaker relationship between perceived seriousness and compliance, whereas higher psychological distress strengthened the impact of perceived seriousness on compliance.

Abstract

Abstract

Attitude toward casual sex can lead to various risky behaviors and therefore, needs to be further explored. This study was conducted in Indonesia, where religious and social norms are strongly against premarital sex, so the findings on the role of the Dark Tetrad may differ from the Western context. This study examined the role of the dark tetrad personality in predicting attitudes toward casual sex among 733 adults in Indonesia (Mage = 28.7, SD = 5.47, 50.1% male; 59.8% married), controlling for demographic factors (i.e., age, biological sex, and marital status). Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that psychopathy (β = 0.160) and sadism (β = 0.175) showed small to moderate effects in predicting permissive attitudes, accounting for an additional 7.9% variance after controlling for demographic factors. These findings highlight the psychological dimensions of permissive attitudes toward casual sex and demonstrate that dark personality traits have stronger predictive roles than demographic factors.  Keywords: attitude toward casual sex, dark tetrad, trait sadism, trait psychopathy, gender, marital status

Abstract

Background: Mental health issues among undergraduates have gained attention inrecent years due to their rising incidence. Healthy lifestyle components like sleepquality, diet, physical activity, substance abuse, and social support may affect mentalhealth. Thus, recognizing the most important components of a healthy lifestyle allows relevant parties to execute suitable treatments. Objective: This study aims toidentify predictors of a healthy lifestyle on mental health. A cross-sectional studywas carried out on a randomly selected sample of 180 undergraduate students aged18 to 30. Significant predictors of healthy lifestyle components were identified usingAHLQ and DASS 21 instruments. Methods: This research is quantitative researchwith a nested case-control study design, using electronic medical record (EMR) datafrom the Central Java Provincial Hospital in 2023. The variables in this study weregender, age, education level, employment status, marital status, health insurancestatus, BMI, DM diet, duration of DM, hypertension, other diseases, current bloodglucose, and HbA1c. The analysis used was univariate, bivariate, and multivariateanalysis (logistic regression). Results: The findings indicate a significant relationship between a healthy diet and mental health, and a healthy diet contributes 25% ofvariances, while 29% of mental health variance was attributed to the combinationof a healthy diet and PA. Furthermore, 31% of mental health variance is attributedto sleep quality variables, and a combination of healthy diet, PA, sleep quality, andsubstance abuse contributes to 34% of mental health variance. Conclusion: Thisstudy provides insights to stakeholders in terms of incorporating healthy lifestylecomponents in mental health intervention strategies for undergraduate students. Itwas concluded that such interventions should focus on promoting a healthy dietsince it is the most significant measure of good mental health.

Abstract

A cyberbullying study in Indonesia found that 84% of young people aged 12-17 years conducted cyberbullying. The consequences of cyberbullying emphasize the importance of studying the predictors and mechanism of cyberbullying. A number of studies have found that cyberbullying is related to Dark Triad personality traits and self-esteem. Dark Triad personality traits consist of three characteristics, namely the traits of: (1) psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism. This study aims to see the role of self-esteem as a mediator in the relationship between Dark Triad personality traits and cyberbullying in the age of 20-35 years. Participants of this studi consist of 292 individuals where 70.89% of them are women. This study utilizes three scales, namely cyberbullying scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and Short Dark Triad Scale (SD3). The result of this study finds that self-esteem mediates traits of psychopathy toward cyberbullying. High self-esteem in individuals with traits of psychopathy results in higher trend in conducting cyberbullying. On the other hand, self-esteem may not significantly mediate between the traits of narcissism and Machiavellianism with cyberbullying. Results of this study aims to provide an implication related to the prevention or intervention of cyberbullying.
