Abstract

Ensuring adequate nutrition through a balanced and healthy diet is essential to maintaining overall health. Maintaining adequate nutrition remains the main priority of the Banjarmasin City Government, especially in remote areas of Mantuil District which has the highest prevalence of stunted children in Banjarmasin. This research aims to determine the prevalence of stunting cases in Mantuil District using a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The research results found that stunting cases in Mantuil District occurred more frequently in riverbank settlements due to sanitation problems, uninhabitable housing and large numbers of families in one house. This research also found that unhealthy residential conditions, low public awareness about stunting, unclean lifestyles also contribute to the prevalence of stunting cases.

Abstract

The community service program implemented in Binuang Santang Village, Halong District, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan, aims to reactivate the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) which had previously failed to develop its business. The community service team provided the community with knowledge on how to manage BUMDes by collaborating with external parties to provide input on the importance of community support for the businesses to be run. BUMDes had previously experienced failure and significant losses. This failure was caused by a series of fatal factors, including a lack of strategic planning, weak market risk analysis, and the lack of readiness of the management to run the business professionally, which became an important background for exploring strategies to activate BUMDes as a means of economic empowerment based on local potential. The service team applied the live-in method, which is staying at the service location with the aim of building more interaction with the community of Binuang Santang Village. The service was carried out for 58 days, from July 17, 2025, to September 12, 2025. The expected outcomes of the program include not only increased production but also increased collective income and strengthened village independence. Support from the community is the driving force behind ensuring that BUMDes provides broad benefits. Through the clear allocation of PADes, it not only improves economic welfare but also increases the quality of human resources (HR) in the village. Thus, BUMDes solidifies its position as an ideal model for inclusive development and ensures that the jobs created are stable and sustainable. BUMDes is a tangible manifestation of the philosophy that the village economy must be managed independently and professionally. In overcoming market challenges, technical training is key to optimizing infrastructure investments and transforming Binuang Santang from a food-producing village into a village that determines welfare.

Abstract

Social changes in rural communities require young people to play an active role as agents of change in social and cultural development. However, in Dayak Pitap Village, youth participation remains low due to the Karang Taruna youth organization not functioning optimally. This study aims to revitalize the role of youth through the establishment and strengthening of the Karang Taruna “Iyam Mitra Muda” organization as a forum for nurturing the younger generation in the social, cultural, and leadership fields. The main programs implemented include organizing institutional structures, formulating vision, mission, and statutes, improving managerial capacity, and fostering a pioneering spirit through social and cultural activities. The results of these activities show a significant increase in the administrative, coordination, and leadership abilities of young people, accompanied by a growing collective awareness of the importance of their participation in village development. Through various activities such as Indonesian Independence Day celebrations, PBB/Linmas training, and involvement in traditional ceremonies, young people have become more active, disciplined, and united in carrying out their social roles. In addition, the formation of a clear organizational structure and the drafting of AD/ART have become the basis for Karang Taruna to move in a more focused and sustainable direction. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Karang Taruna “Iyam Mitra Muda” plays a strategic role in strengthening the capacity of youth as the driving force of social development in Dayak Pitap Village. This study is expected to be a reference for the development of youth empowerment models in other villages in a participatory and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Parit Village is a village that still maintains traditional values and carries out traditional rituals, one of which is Tiwah as a form of respect, expression of gratitude to ancestors, and the beliefs of the community. This research aims to analyse the value of social solidarity contained in the Tiwah ritual of the indigenous people of Parit Village. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of field research conducted in Parit Village, Cempaga Hulu District, East Kotawaringin Regency. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then the data were analysed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the Tiwah ritual performed by the indigenous people of Parit Village is a form of respect for ancestors. This ritual includes various activities such as buffalo slaughtering, bone removal, and making sandung and sapundu in the death ceremony. This research reveals that the Tiwah ritual has social and cultural meanings. The social meaning includes the building of mechanical solidarity, where this ritual strengthens family and social relations through mutual cooperation and cooperation between community members who have similar values and beliefs. The cultural meaning contained in the Tiwah ritual is a hereditary tradition from Kaharingan ancestors that functions as a form of human self-purification. Based on the Gemeinschaft theory, this ritual reflects social ties that are established on the basis of close personal and familial relationships. The research is expected to be a reference for future studies that explore the social solidarity of the Parit Village community using other approaches or theories, such as symbolic interaction theory or structuration theory, to complement the understanding of the social and cultural dynamics involved in the Tiwah ritual.

Abstract

Cultural symbols not only reside in artifacts but are also embedded in the beliefs and practices of society. The phenomenon of using yellow cloth in various traditional rituals, such as baayun maulid, betatamba, and pilgrimages to the graves of revered figures, reflects a collective belief in sacredness, protection, and spiritual connection with ancestors. This study aims to uncover the symbolic meaning of yellow cloth and explore its functions in the everyday life of the Banjar community, particularly within the context of local traditions and beliefs. This research employs a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Seven key informants were selected using purposive sampling techniques. The findings reveal that the Banjar people perceive the yellow cloth as a sacred object, not merely for its aesthetic value, but for its rich symbolic meanings passed down across generations. However, a shift in meaning was found among younger generations, who tend to view the cloth more profanely and functionally. The perspective of symbolic interactionism is used to understand how the meaning of yellow cloth is constructed, maintained, and transformed through intergenerational social interaction. This study offers insights into the importance of preserving symbolic values in Banjar culture amid modern pressures and serves as a theoretical contribution to the study of local culture and symbolic sociology. Future research is encouraged to explore the dynamics of symbolic cultural transmission from generational and social media perspectives.
