Abstract

Education plays an important role in the formation of human character. One of the keys to successful students who have a strong personality is the selection of learning material. This study aims to explain that moral literacy in the novel The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling in the form of ethical sensitivity, ethical reasoning abilities, and moral imagination. This research is a qualitative descriptive type and uses an objective approach. The theory used is Nancy Tuana's Moral Literacy. The results showed that the form of ethical sensitivity in The Jungle Book is in the brotherhood and heroic action The form of ethical reasoning is in the reasoning for the nature of gratitude and the nature of the consequences of revenge. Moral imagination lies in brotherhood and self-defense efforts. Thus, moral literacy in the novel can be an alternative material for moral literacy the which is useful in the development of students' character.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether Graphic Organizer has a significant effect on students' ability to speak. This study used the VIII.F students of Al-Azhar 12 Junior High School Rawamangun as the research sample. This class consists of 22 students. To choose the sample, the writer used a simple random sampling technique. From the population. The method used in this study was quantitative and the design used was a pre-experimental study with the technique of one group pre and post-test design. The instrument used in this study was oral tests. Then for that reason, the writer used the Weighting Table from Adam and Frith so that the measurement could be more accurate. The result of this research explains that students’ pre-test score is 72,36 and the post-test score is 81,45. The result of statistical hypothesis found out that the level of significance is higher than 0.000 < 0.005. This means H0 (Null Hypothesis) is rejected and H1 (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted. Which means using the media Graphic Organizer is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate in detail the implementation of theme based instruction model  in teaching extensive reading. This study is classroom action research conducted at the fourth semester students’ English Educational Sciences, Educational Sciences Faculty, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta with participant number are 40 students. Data obtained from the result of the test in each cycle. The findings showed that the learning process using theme based instruction model  in teaching extensive reading makes the students more participative and active in their classroom reading learning process, it is showed by their high participation  during the teaching is increased. Another finding revealed that there is significant influence toward the students’ extensive reading learning process from preliminary to cycle II stage in the research process. The average score of students at the preliminary stage is only 68 then it increased to 72 in the first cycle and increased significantly in cycle II with the amount of 83. It can be concluded that classroom action research is done by using of theme based instruction model in teaching extensive reading in the fourthsemester students of English Educational Sciences significantly helps the students in increasing about 21% improvement from pre-cycle to cycle II in their Extensive Reading course. This study recommends the continuation of using various teaching models for university students to improve their English language skills, especially English reading skill.

Abstract

This research contains literary learning in the poetry genre entitled Poems on the Life of the Prophet Muhammad by Paul Abdul Wadud Sutherland. This poem has the moral education value of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiahan which is the main focus of this research because moral values is one of the basic foundations of human nature which is closely related to human behavior with God. This research aims to obtain a deep understanding of moral values in the form of divine values and human values from the collection of poems Poems on the Life of the Prophet Muhammad by Paul Abdul Wadud Sutherland. This research uses a qualitative method and content analysis design. The research finding showed that Shutherland’s Poems on the Life of the Prophet Muhammad contained the Islamic moral education values namely illahiyah values and insaniyah values that can be good examples for students’ daily life.
