Abstract

Tests for determining the elemental composition of stainless steel (SS) in the weld metal and Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) were carried out using the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Positive Material Identification (PMI) method with X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology. This study aimed to identify the chemical composition of metals using the PMI method with XRF technology as a determinant of the feasibility of the stainless-steel materials tested, namely SS 316 and SS 2205. The results of the tests were then matched with the applicable standards, namely ASME Section II Part A for pipe materials and ASME Section II Part C for welding electrodes. The measurement results show that SS 316 with welding electrode grade ER 316 all parts of the object of inspection fall within the standard range used except for material 4, which is the connection between the flange and elbow is declared rejected because the values ​​for Cr, Ni, and Mo do not fall within the standard range. Meanwhile, SS 2205 with a welding electrode grade of ER 2594 shows that all parts of the object being measured meet the requirements of the standard range used.

Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi menuntut industri manufaktur untuk dapat menghasilkan produk yang bentuknya lebih rumit dalam waktu lebih cepat. Teknik additive manufacturing atau percetakan tiga dimensi dapat mengatasi masalah ini, dengan mencairkan material kemudian dituang sedikit demi sedikit sebagai lapisan dalam proses pembuatannya. Produk yang dihasilkan memiliki permukaan yang kasar karena lapisan-lapisan yang dibentuk mesin cetak. Untuk menyesuaikan permukaan tersebut, dapat dilakukan pelapisan oleh cat emulsi. Studi ini meneliti kekasaran permukaan rata-rata (Ra) produk mesin cetak tiga dimensi dari bahan acrylonitrile butadiene styrene yang dilapisi cat tembok dan cat semprot dengan variasi waktu perendaman 5, 10, dan 15 menit. Hasil karakterisasi Ra oleh Surface Roughness Tester menunjukkan tingkat kekasaran permukaan sampel yang dilapisi selama 15 menit lebih rendah daripada 5 dan 10 menit. Nilai Ra sampel yang dilapisi cat semprot adalah 3,035 µm, lebih rendah daripada sampel terlapis cat tembok yaitu 2,650 µm untuk waktu perendaman yang sama yaitu 15 menit.

Abstract

Oil and gas companies are the largest users of steel pipes to produce oil and gas products from the mining, processing and distribution of ready-to-use oil and gas. Steel pipes used in the oil and gas industry can reach tens to thousands of kilometers with many welded joints every few meters. The possibility of corrosion on steel pipes is very large, so a corrosion-resistant coating is needed. Inconel material is often used as a coating material for the inside of steel pipes which is done by cladding welding. In this research, intergranular corrosion testing of the Inconel material layer as a result of cladding welding was carried out on steel pipes with filler metal UNS N06625 to determine the material's susceptibility to corrosion caused by the flow of oil and gas fluid in the pipe. The filler metals used were Ra***tna 625 and Nov***etal 625. Intergranular corrosion testing was carried out using ASTM G-28 standards. The results of the intergranular corrosion test showed that the cladding layer used filler metal for the Ra***tna 625 and Nov***etal 625 brands. No intergranular corrosion was observed, but there was uniform corrosion on the Ra***tna 625 brand with a corrosion rate of 0.46 mm/ year and 0.50 mm/year on the brand Nov***etal 625.

Abstract

The hydroponic pilot project in the Batam State Polytechnic area was motivated by problems with economic conditions and declining health conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic. This project is expected to support the “growing your own food movement” in an effort to reduce unemployment, increase food security and a healthy lifestyle. The hydroponic method was chosen because it is very easy to do and does not require a large area of ​​land. In this community service activity, a hydroponic plant building framework will be made as a prototype of an efficient and efficient hydroponic building so that it can be used by the wider community. This activity is also useful for applying design knowledge as one of the PbL activities carried out by CAD, CNC, CAM, and Fabrication Engineering courses in the Mechanical Engineering Department, so that it can become an arena for higher education participation to support people's lives. The method of implementing this community service activity is to make observations to find a suitable area to build a hydroponic plant house, then the results of the observations are poured in the form of a design by utilizing software so that the materials needed and the shape of the framework that is built can be known. The last activity is making a hydroponic plant place. This activity is planned to be carried out from April to November 2021. Based on the results of the evaluation of the service program questionnaire for product distribution, it is known that the majority of respondents are satisfied with the products produced.

Abstract

Pandemi menjadi bagian dari sejarah yang terjadi di negara Indonesia. Salah satu pademi yang pernah terjadi adalah penyebaran covid19 yang terjadi pada tahun 2019 sampai dengan 2022. Awalnya penyebaran virus hanya ada di titik tertentu, namun karena beberapa hal, penyebarannya bertambah. Penyebaran Covid19 semakin meluas dan menambah  panjang daftar pasien yang harus melaksanakan isolasi mandiri maupun perawatan di rumah sakit. Ketersediaan alat dan pembiasaan masyarakat dalam penerapan prokes perlu ditingkatkan guna meminimalisir penyebaran. Mencuci tangan merupakan salah satu prokes yang harus dilakukan, dimana Politeknik Negeri Batam ikut berpartisipasi dalam bentuk pembuatan Alat cuci tangan Foot Operated (AFO). Alat ini merupakan modifikasi dari alat cuci tangan konvensional dengan perbedaan kontrol pengeluaran sabun dan aliran air yang berasal dari injakan kaki pengguna . Dari hasil pembuatan, alat dengan dimensi 1140x660x1670mm dapat bekerja sesuai dengan desain yang direncanakan dan alat tersebut dapat digunakan oleh masyarakat sekitar. Dengan alat ini diharapkan dapat membantu mengurangi penyebaran covid19 sehingga pandemi yang terjadi hampir di antero negeri dapat teratasi dari langkah dan perbuatan kecil yang kami lakukan ini.

Abstract

Kota Batam merupakan daerah dengan julukan kota industri. Sejak setelah bertranformasi menjadi kawasan industri kota Batam memiliki berbagai macam indutri yang dibangun, sehingga terbuka banyak peluang kerja yang tersedia. Salah satu keberlanjutan yang perlu didukung yaitu ketersediaan tenaga kerja terampil yang memiliki kompetensi dibidang keteknikan. Gambar dan penggunaan software CAD menjadi salah satu kompetensi yang perlu dipenuhi oleh masyarakat. Upaya menyediakan tenaga kerja terampil dapat dilihat dari tersedianya sekolah menengah kejuruan. Meskipun demikian, keterbatasan fasilitas praktik menjadi salah satu kendala yang dihadapi sebagian sekolah dalam melaksanakan layanan pendidikannya. Kegiatan Pelatihan Penggunaan Software AutoCAD kepada siswa/i SMK Kota Batam Tahun 2024 kemudian hadir menjadi salah satu solusi untuk dapat membantu sekolah dalam meningkat mutu pendidikan vokasi di Kota Batam. Pelatihan ini didanai secara internal oleh Politeknik Negeri Batam dan telah dilaksanakan di Politeknik Negeri Batam pada 23 – 26 Juli 2024. Adapun mitra peserta pengabdian ini adalah dari siswa dan guru SMK S Aljabar Batam, SMK S Kartini, SMK N 9 Batam. Beberapa luaran yang telah diselesaikan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah terselenggaranya kegiatan dan penyusunan modul pelatihan. pemberitaan pada media masa, HKI modul, poster dan video kegiatan.

Abstract

Dalam kegiatan praktikum di Laboratorium Manufaktur Politeknik Negeri Batam terdapat beberapa mesin bubut konvensional yang beroperasi. Namun dalam pengoperasinnya, terkadang terjadi masalah dengan proses produksi karena kerusakan mesin yang signifikan sehingga menyebabkan proses belajar menjadi terganggu. Tujuan studi ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi komponen utama penyebab kerusakan pada salah satu mesin bubut konvensional dengan menggunakan metode Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) dengan cara menghitung Risk Priority Number (RPN) dan memberikan rekomendasi. Dengan menghitung nilai RPN dapat diidentifikasi risiko kerusakan tertinggi dari komponen mesin bubut tersebut sehingga prioritas perawatan yang dibutuhkan dapat diketahui. Berdasarkan analisis, nilai RPN terbesar diperoleh sebesar 192 oleh gearbox mesin bubut, kemudian eretan pemutar sumbu x sebesar 36 dan kopling transmisi roda gigi sebesar 32. Karena seluruh komponen tersebut memiliki nilai RPN < 200, maka mitigasi risiko yang perlu dilakukan adalah dengan melakukan corrective maintenance namun untuk mencegah kerusakan mesin bubut sebelum terjadi dan memperkecil risiko gangguan pada praktikum, diperlukan peningkatan strategi yang lebih tepat pada preventive dan predictive maintenance.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) in optimizing welding preparation for the back gouging of boom structures in hydraulic mining shovels. The primary objective is to evaluate MPI's efficiency in detecting surface and near-surface defects during the pre-welding stage, thereby improving the overall welding quality of boom structures, which play a critical role in supporting heavy loads. MPI is utilized as an initial inspection method prior to Ultrasonic Testing (UT), enabling early detection of potential defects and reducing the likelihood of failures during subsequent UT evaluations. The study reveals the presence of linear and rounded discontinuities that may compromise weld integrity. By applying MPI early in the process, the need for rework during UT is minimized, resulting in cost and time savings. Furthermore, the findings of this study contribute to supporting two key organizational initiatives—People, Quality, Velocity, Cost (PQVC) and Built-in Quality (BIQ)—which aim to enhance both the efficiency and reliability of the welding process.

Abstract

This paper discusses in depth the implementation of the Village Community Empowerment Program (P2MD) carried out on Jemare Island. The main focus of this program is the application of appropriate technology, which includes public street lighting and a water pump system, both powered by solar panels. The main objective of this initiative is to improve the quality of lighting and the provision of clean water on the island, two important aspects that are greatly needed by the local residents. Through a series of intensive observations and discussions with the local residents, the community service team was able to identify and solve various problems faced by the residents. As a result of these efforts, four street lights have been successfully installed and operated, and the water pump system has been successfully connected to the water pump machine and water storage tank. It is hoped that this initiative can have a significant positive impact on the quality of life of the residents of Jemare Island, support their business activities and economy, and provide a solution to the uneven distribution of electricity by the state electricity company (PLN). This solution is practical because it utilizes renewable energy in the form of sunlight, which is abundantly available on Jemare Island.

Abstract

This research explores the issue of distortion in spool pipes within the context of the fabrication process, with a specific focus on pipe connections with flanges. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of distortion caused by the tacking process during fit-up and the sequence of welding sequences in the welding process. The experiments were conducted by collecting data through inspections of concentricity in the connections using the Total Station Sokkia CX 101 S/N GP1159 tool, with tolerances set at 1, and 0.75 for capping weld. Fabrication Piping and Structure Onshore served as the testing location, with ASTM A671 CC60-12 as the testing material. All tests were conducted at room temperature. The inspection results were used as a guide for the repair process, providing instructions to the Fitter for improving the connections and enabling the welder to maintain the precision of the pipe connections with flanges to avoid distortion. Based on the experimental results, the concentricity of pipe connections reflects the occurring distortion, while welding sequences show a counter effect at each welding step. The distortion after welding, measured at 0.75, still complies with client specifications.
