Abstract

PQR Qualification (Procedure Qualification Record) is an important part of welding. To ensures that the welding procedures used meet the quality requirements of the welding fabrication project. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of welding and material thickness resistance attest coupon. One way to determine welding qualifications by means of this procedure is to use damage testing which is carried out on the material and welding until it is damaged and meets the set standards. This research will discuss PQR based on the AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2020 standard by requiring two tensile test specimens, two sets of scharpy v-notch (a set of three specimens), four side bend specimens and one macro specimen. The number and type of specimens are set in the AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2020 standard. Results of testing tensile obtained the difference in tensile strength between specimens 1st and 2nd specimens. The value obtained for tensile strength are 508 MPa and 515 MPa with 7 MPa of differences, but these results still with in the limits range of 470 to 630 MPa. Charpy impact testing obtained the results above required value of minimum 27 Joule. The surface bending test of the test specimen did not show any defect as well as in the macro testing. From the results of this tests, the quality of the welding and the thickness of the material can be determined.

Abstract

Abstract

Portable open waste container is a traditional waste transport tool that is still widely used in various places. Skid frame is an important component in the construction of portable open waste container that serves to withstand static and dynamic loads during waste transport. Therefore, it is necessary to analyse the strength of the skid frame structure to ensure the design is able to withstand the given load. This research aims to analyse the stress distribution, deformation, and safety factor of the portable open waste container skid frame using the Finite Element Analysis method in Solidworks software. The analysis results show that the maximum stress that occurs in the skid frame is 249.921 MPa which almost reaches the yield stress of ASTM A36 steel material, which is 250 MPa, with a maximum deformation of 20.544 mm, and a minimum safety factor of 0.6. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the skid frame design needs to be optimised to improve the durability of the structure and safety during operation

Abstract

The hydroponic pilot project in the Batam State Polytechnic area was motivated by problems with economic conditions and declining health conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic. This project is expected to support the "growing your own food movement" in an effort to reduce unemployment, increase food security and a healthy lifestyle. The hydroponic method was chosen because it is very easy to do and does not require a large area of "‹"‹land. In this community service activity, a hydroponic plant building framework will be made as a prototype of an efficient and efficient hydroponic building so that it can be used by the wider community. This activity is also useful for applying design knowledge as one of the PbL activities carried out by CAD, CNC, CAM, and Fabrication Engineering courses in the Mechanical Engineering Department, so that it can become an arena for higher education participation to support people's lives. The method of implementing this community service activity is to make observations to find a suitable area to build a hydroponic plant house, then the results of the observations are poured in the form of a design by utilizing software so that the materials needed and the shape of the framework that is built can be known. The last activity is making a hydroponic plant place. This activity is planned to be carried out from April to November 2021. Based on the results of the evaluation of the service program questionnaire for product distribution, it is known that the majority of respondents are satisfied with the products produced.

Abstract

This paper discusses in depth the implementation of the Village Community Empowerment Program (P2MD) carried out on Jemare Island. The main focus of this program is the application of appropriate technology, which includes public street lighting and a water pump system, both powered by solar panels. The main objective of this initiative is to improve the quality of lighting and the provision of clean water on the island, two important aspects that are greatly needed by the local residents. Through a series of intensive observations and discussions with the local residents, the community service team was able to identify and solve various problems faced by the residents. As a result of these efforts, four street lights have been successfully installed and operated, and the water pump system has been successfully connected to the water pump machine and water storage tank. It is hoped that this initiative can have a significant positive impact on the quality of life of the residents of Jemare Island, support their business activities and economy, and provide a solution to the uneven distribution of electricity by the state electricity company (PLN). This solution is practical because it utilizes renewable energy in the form of sunlight, which is abundantly available on Jemare Island.

Abstract

The use of cladding methods in manufacturing corrosion-resistant pipes is crucial for industries such as oil and gas, chemical plants, and pressure vessel manufacturing. This study focuses on ASTM B424 UNS N08825, a corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) to be used as the surface layer for steel pipes. The cladding method involves forming CRA sheets into longitudinal pipes, followed by welding the joints, annealing, and rapid cooling before high process expansion to surface layer the steel pipes. At a temperature of 930-990°C, the annealing process aims to reduce stress and improve material properties, followed by rapid cooling to stabilize the microstructure. Various tests were conducted on the CRA liner pipes with or without annealing and quenching, including tensile testing, hardness testing, chemical composition analysis, and microstructure examination. The results showed that the material's ultimate tensile strength and hardness significantly increased after the treatment, with better uniformity in the microstructure. This study concludes that annealing and rapid cooling enhance the mechanical properties and stability of ASTM B424 UNS N08825, allowing the cladding process on steel pipe surfaces to be performed flawlessly and making it suitable for high-performance applications in corrosive environments.
