Abstract

The digitalization of Islamic Religious Education learning in elementary schools is frequently constrained by technological infrastructure limitations, while prior studies have focused on the digital divide without examining teachers' adaptive strategies. This study aims to analyze the frugal innovation strategy adopted by teachers in implementing the digitalization of Islamic Religious Education learning at an elementary school facing limited facilities. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design at SD IT Raudhatul Ilmi, Jambi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and were subsequently analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which comprises data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was strengthened through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that limited internet connectivity and inadequate devices cause a time inefficiency of approximately 10 to 15 minutes in each learning session due to restricted network coverage and the alternate use of devices. Through the frugal innovation strategy, teachers overcome these constraints by creatively utilizing available resources, particularly the collective use of audio-visual media through Smart TV and the support of teachers' personal resources. This strategy positively affects students' joyful learning, reflected in their enthusiasm and active participation. The novelty of this study lies in mapping frugal innovation as an adaptive framework for technology-based religious learning within a context of infrastructure limitations.

Abstract

Policies restricting students’ use of personal digital devices have challenged teachers to design engaging and effective learning processes, particularly in Islamic Education learning contexts. This study aims to analyze innovative learning strategies in Islamic Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam) using offline learning media amid restrictions on students’ personal digital device use in Grade XI at SMK Sulthon Fattah. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected through classroom observations and interviews with Islamic Education staff regarding learning activities. The findings reveal that learning innovation was implemented through offline-based visual and audiovisual media, including PowerPoint slides and instructional videos displayed through a projector as a shared screen. This strategy increased students’ attention, participation, and understanding of Islamic Education materials despite the absence of personal digital devices. Its effectiveness lies in its ability to centralize students’ focus on controlled visual learning sources that align with pesantren-based school policies. The study concludes that offline learning media can serve as a strategic solution for fostering contextual and adaptive innovation in Islamic Education while improving the overall quality of the learning process. These findings contribute to Islamic Education pedagogy by demonstrating how offline media-based instruction can support meaningful learning in technology-restricted school environments.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi pendidikan menuntut integrasi media digital dalam pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kualitas proses belajar mengajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis persepsi guru Pendidikan Agama Islam terhadap urgensi teknologi pendidikan, mengidentifikasi faktor internal dan eksternal yang menghambat implementasinya, serta mendeskripsikan upaya mandiri guru dalam meningkatkan kompetensi teknologi pembelajaran. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data dilakukan menggunakan analisis tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memiliki persepsi positif terhadap penggunaan teknologi pendidikan, namun implementasinya belum optimal akibat keterbatasan kompetensi digital, minimnya fasilitas teknologi, dukungan institusi yang terbatas, serta rendahnya inisiatif pengembangan profesional mandiri. Temuan penelitian menegaskan bahwa peningkatan implementasi teknologi pendidikan memerlukan sinergi antara penguatan kompetensi guru, penyediaan sarana pendukung, dan pengembangan budaya belajar mandiri agar pembelajaran PAI menjadi lebih efektif dan relevan dengan tuntutan pendidikan era digital.
