Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the non-communicable diseases which is the mayor leading cause of death in the world. One of the modifiable factors of cardiovascular disease is central obesity. Assessment of central obesity status was carried out by measuring waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR). This study aimed to determine the relationship between WC and WHR with the risk of cardiovascular disease. This was an observational study with a cross-sectional design. There were 106 respondents selected using a convenience sampling technique. In this study, the risk of cardiovascular disease was calculated using the Jakarta Cardiovascular Score. The Spearman Rho’s was used as bivariate analysis for this study. The findings showed that WC and the risk of cardiovascular disease indicates a significant relationship with a moderate correlation (p <0.001 and r =0.467). Meanwhile, there was a significant relationship between WHR and the risk of cardiovascular disease (p<0.001 and r =0.385). Nurse may use this study result as an evidence to develop a preventive central obesity program.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a global health challenge that significantly impacts individuals and communities. Family-based care is recognized as an effective method to enhance TB management. The aim of this case study is to illustrate the implementation of family-based nursing care in a TB case to provide holistic care. The method used is a case study approach following the Family Nursing Model (FCN) theory by Friedman. A family with TB-diagnosed members was selected as the sample. The nursing care process was conducted over three months with bi-weekly routine visits. The care process included assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation stages. The results of this case study formulated the nursing diagnosis “Ineffective Health Maintenance in the Family of Mr. D”. Interventions were based on the five family health tasks, namely understanding health issues through education about TB and the disease process; making informed decisions involving the family; providing care with support for the treatment program undergone by family members; adapting a healthy environment through hygiene behavior education; and utilizing health services through referral to community services. This nursing care illustrates integrated care practices with active family involvement, providing practical guidance to enhance TB treatment outcomes and management at the family level.

Abstract

Nanocomposites are often used as a catalyst in the pyrolysis of Al/Mg/KNO3 rocket igniter charge. Because the synthesis of the nanocomposites has a negative impact on the environment, in this study, the nanocomposite of ZnO-Fe2O3 was synthesized using a green synthesis method based on the aqueous fraction of Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp. leaf extract. The secondary metabolites contained in the extract were tested. ZnO-Fe2O3 nanocomposite was characterized using Ultra-Violet-Visible Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (UV Vis-DRS), Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).The thermal decomposition process of Al/Mg/KNO3 with and without ZnO-Fe2O3 nanocomposite was analyzed using Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA). As a result, ZnO-Fe2O3 nanocomposite is successfully synthesized, proven by UV-Vis DRS, FT-IR, XRD, and SEM-EDS analysis. It highlights the effectiveness of aqueous leaves extract of Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp. as a capping agent because of the secondary metabolites. Based on PSA and TEM characterization, the particle size is 17.37 nm. The TGA curves demonstrate that the addition of ZnO-Fe2O3 nanocomposite lowers the activation energy for decomposition of Al/Mg/KNO3, from 58.71 kJ/mol to 52.07 kJ/mol, as well as reduces the stage in the decomposition process. A particular reason lies on the role of ZnO-Fe2O3 nanocomposite in reducing the activation energy of the thermal decomposition ofKNO3.
