Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aims to determine: (1) differences of students’ communication skill between PDEODE learning and conventional learning, (2) differences of students’ communication skill between those at higher and lower academic abilities, and (3) the communication skill of students due to the interaction between learning strategy and academic ability. The research design was a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control design. Data were obtained by the pretest and posttest using essay test. Data were analyzed using ANACOVA Test.The data analysis showed that learning strategy, academic ability, as well as interaction between learning strategy and academic ability affect the students’ communication skill significantly.

Abstract

This research aims at investigating the effect of NHT learning strategy on students’ learning outcomes. This is quasi experimental research. The design of this research was Pretest-Posttest Non-equivalent Control Design. The population of this research was all the students of class XI of public senior high school students in Muara Badak in the first semester of 2015/2016 academic year. The samples of this research were the students of class XI natural science 1 and XI natural science 2. There were 30 students in each of the class. The data were obtained from essay tests. The data were analyzed using Ancova. The results of the analysis showed that the learning strategy had an effect on the learning outcomes. It was observed from the comparison of the mean corrected score that the NHT learning strategy had a more significant effect as much as 21,56%, compared to the effect from the conventional learning.

Abstract

Metacognitive skill is one important indicator within learning that required to be empowered. Several factors within learning have proven that were influenced by metacognitive such as learning outcomes and retention. This research aims at discovering a comparison on the correlation and contribution between metacognitive and learning oitcomes as well as the retention in Biology learnyng based on PBL. This research employed descriptive-correlational design. The population of this research was the entire students of XI graders of Senior High School in Malang academic year 2016/2017. The sample of this research was XI graders of Science students 1 SMAN 7 Malang consisted of 32 stuednts and students of 6.F.3 SMAN 9 Malang consisted of 29 students. The data obtained was analyzed using liniear regression analysis. The result showed that contribution of metacognitive to learning outcome is higher than to the retention.

Abstract

Teaching materials is one of the important components in learning that can help the smooth learning of students. The purpose of this research is to produce teaching material of genetic mutation in genetics course in State University of Malang. Development of teaching materials using Four-D development model. Data analysis is descriptive qualitative and quantitative descriptive. The result of development of teaching materials in the form of Module Genetic of mutation. The instructional materials in the form of modules have been revised based on the assessment of expert validators and small group trials. Based on the percentage of validity obtained from material expert validators, media experts and small group trials, the developed Module Genetic of mutation has met the valid criteria and can be used with the acquisition of percentages of 86.00%, 88.38%, and 88.38%. Product revisions are made based on comments and suggestions provided by validators and small group trials. Module Genetic of mutation comes with instructions for use, discussion, tasks, summary, test questions, reflections, answer keys, ratings, and glossary.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a module based on research for undergraduate students in Biology Education Mulawarman University. Result of development is a module from design phase and validate by subject expert, instructional media expert, and small group test. Validation result from subject expert is 84,38%, in valid enough category and result from instructional media expert is 94,16% in valid category. Small group test result is 82% in valid ebough category. Validation results in qualitative and quantitative data is used to revised module.

Abstract

Nontext book are books which are not used directly as a book to study particular subject in educational institution. One of nontext books is a supplementary book. Genetics course is a course taught in Biology Education Program of Jember University. There are several problems in the lecture based on the analysis of teaching materials needs. These problems are such as the source of many teaching materials that use English, so the students get difficult in understanding the material, students are looking forward to the material with a simple language and easy to understand, and having interesting illustrations. The purpose of this study is to produce a supplementary book of Genetics in Biology Education Program in University of Jember. The supplementary book which was being developed is a research-based supplementary book with development model R&D Borg and Gall. The supplementary book was validated by a material expert, a development expert, and tested on a small group of 15 students. The result of material validation showed the value of 81,39%, developing validation 97,96%, and the result of reading test 73,66%. Overall, the supplementary book is valid enough with a little revision. The revised book is based on suggestions and comments provided by validators and test of small group of students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of gender on the creative thinking skills of senior high school students on Biology learning. The research design used is quantitative research. The population is all students of class XI IPA in SMA Negeri 1 Babat and SMA Negeri 1 Kedungpring, Lamongan District. The sample is the students of class XI IPA-6, XI IPA-7 SMA Negeri 1 Babat and XI IPA-1, XI IPA-5 SMA Negeri 1 Kedungpring consisting of 51 male students and 77 female students. Based on data analysis result with single anakova test obtained F count the influence of gender to creative thinking skill of student is equal to 3,026 with p-count 0,084 > 0,05. These results indicate that H1 which reads that there is gender difference to students 'creative thinking skill is rejected, so it can be concluded that gender has no effect on students' creative thinking skill.

Abstract

This study was aimed to develop a valid biology learning module based on SQ4R model as a learning material for high school students. This study adapted the ADDIE model. The validity of the module was known from the expert validation scores and student responses. The results showed that the validation scores from module expert was 85.45% (valid), material experts was 97.5% (very valid), field practitioners was 98.1% (very valid) and very good student responses with score of 94.96%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the developed biology learning module based on SQ4R model is classified as valid and practical to be used in the learning process as learning material for high school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between metacognitive skills and retention of student learning outcomes, as well as the amount of contribution given by metacognitive skills to retention of student learning outcomes. This study was a correlation study. The population were all students of class X (ten) of SMAN 7 Kota Malang. The sample used was class X MIPA 2 students of SMAN 7 Malang which consisted of 34 students. The result showed that there is a relationship between metacognitive skills and retention of student learning outcomes that form the regression line equation Y = 54,712 + 0,253X with the contribution of metacognitive skills to retention of learning outcomes by 17,5%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse (1) the relationship of critical thinking skills and communication skills with student retention through the RPQSS learning strategy, and (2) the amount of contribution given by critical thinking skills and communication skills to student retention. The research subjects were 34 students of SMAN 1 Sumberpucung. Data obtained based on the results of tests of critical thinking skills, communication skills, and retention. The research data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of data analysis show that (1) there is a significant relationship between critical thinking skills and communication skills with retention, and (2) communication skills contribute more than critical thinking skills to retention that is equal to 99,7%.
