Abstract

Health risk behavior emerges due to risk factors within adolescents, family factors, and external factors outside the family. Poor knowledge about risk behavior and parental control may cause adolescents to develop risky behaviors that affect their health. This study aimed to identify the relationship between family factors and knowledge of adolescent risk behavior. It is a cross-sectional study conducted on 271 adolescents aged 17–25 years in Central Java from April to November 2021, taken by random sampling. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a meaning level of 95%. Results show no relationship between knowledge level and adolescent risk behavior (p=0.665), and there was a relationship between family rules and adolescent risk behavior (p=0.001). Family rules significantly prevent adolescent risk behavior; hence, parents must apply family rules to limit teenage behavior, especially in opposite-sex relationships, to avoid sexual risk behavior.

Abstract

Padang restaurants have become one of the favorite places for residents of Tembalang District because of the distinctive taste of the food they serve. However, many Padang restaurants have not managed their waste properly. This study aimed to determine the relationship between waste management and fly density levels at Padang restaurants in the Tembalang District. This was an analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted from October to December 2023. The research sample consisted of 45 Padang restaurants selected using total sampling technique. The results show that most food waste comes from customer plate waste (60%) with rice being the most wasted food type (37.8%). The majority of restaurants have a relatively poor waste sorting category (68.9%) but mostly the waste containers meets the requirements (75.6%). Fly density levels in Padang restaurants mostly are still categorized as high (53.5%). Waste containers is associated with fly density levels (p=0.030), while waste sorting is not associated with fly density levels (p=0.057). It could be concluded that waste containers without lids with insufficient capacity are associated with fly density levels at Padang restaurants in Tembalang District.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an endemic disease. It has become a public health concern. Mosquito control activities are needed to control vectors and prevent DHF. Therefore, we conduct a literature review of mosquito control activities associated with DHF in Indonesia. This study applies the selected articles using PRISMA (Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses), and they are sourced from Science Direct, Google Scholar, Scopus, ProQuest, Ebscohost, and Portal Garuda. The criteria for the selected articles are full-text articles, published in 2015-2020, and those which are published in national journals SINTA 2 or international journals. This study reviewed 683 articles, out of which were selected for further examination. The key variables, such as draining water containers, covering water containers, burying and recycling used containers, using mosquito repellent, using larvacide , keeping larva-eating fish, having mosquito repellent plants, installing wire mesh on ventilation, showed significant correlation with Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) incidence. Among the selected articles, 38.89% employed cross-sectional design, and the rest belonged to case-control studies. Most articles have variable draining water containers (55.56%), 50% covers water containers, 80% have a significant association between draining water containers and DHF incidence, and 66.67% have a significant association between covering water containers and DHF incidence. Most articles show that not implementing PSN (Pemberantasan sarang nyamuk) or PSN 3M (Pemberantasan sarang nyamuk, menguras, menutup, mengubur plus) is associated with the incidence of DHF and is a risk factor for the occurrence of DHF. On the other hand, the implementation of PSN or PSN 3M Plus will be a protective factor.

Abstract

Introduction: Sarung Goyor is one of the popular textile industries in Indonesia. The manual production process results in the release of a high number of dust particles into the air, including rayon fibers, which are a major component of the fabric. Inhaling fine fibers causes respiratory tract irritation and impaired lung function. There hasn't been much research exploring rayon dust exposure related to small-scale weaving crafts. This study aims to find a relationship between rayon fibers and lung function among sarong weavers in Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at the Sarung Goyor Industry Center North Wanarejan, Pemalang, involving 101 male weavers. The data collected includes total dust and inhalable dust levels, lung function values, and ventilation area.Dust sampling was performed using the Hi-Q HVP-2000 and SKC PCXR 8000, and lung function values were measured using the Spiro LAB III according to ATS standards. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and correlation test. Results and Discussion: 78% of respondents experienced impaired lung function, obstructive 22%, restrictive 46.5%, and mixed 18.8%. There is a strong relationship between age and restriction (p = 0.001) as well as inhaled dust and restriction (p = 0.026). A statistically significant inverse association was identified between ventilation area and the presence of obstructions. Conclusion: Rayon has a significant impact on lung function, causing restriction and obstruction over time. Therefore, it is essential to advocate for improved workplace ventilation and the consistent use of protective masks among weavers.
