Abstract

Digital media is currently a primary means of development communication. Edutainment, a combination of education and entertainment, is an effective strategy for conveying social messages in an engaging manner. This study analyzes the content of the YouTube Watchdoc documentary "Land of My Ancestors" through the Sabido theory framework, which emphasizes the influence of dramatic media on changing audience attitudes and behavior. The results show that the use of dramatic narratives, representative characters, and emotional storylines can raise public awareness of agrarian conflict issues and encourage social participation.

Abstract

Museums are one of the tourist destinations, especially educational and cultural tourism for the community. All resources in the museum including museum guides have an important role. In addition to being a guide, museum guide, and providing services for visitors, museum guides must also have other skills in communicating material or all things in the museum, including communicating in the form of posters that can be published. For two years, the world has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Indonesia is no exception. This pandemic has had a wide impact on all sectors of people's lives, including education and tourism. In 2022, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy begins to launch a program to revive the slumped tourism industry. The Indonesian Museum Guides Association (IPMI) as a unifying forum and communication between museum guides in Indonesia welcomed this. One of them is by synergizing with Bina Sarana Informatika University in community service activities. In this activity, the lecturers who are members of the community service group help partners to provide training on making educational posters and museum collections for museum guides. This method of implementing Community Service activities is carried out online, through the zoom meeting application, due to the current pandemic situation in PPKM Level 3 status, so mass gathering in large numbers is not possible. The outputs of this activity include press releases and questionnaire results from both partners and participants.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication is fundamental in education, particularly in special schools serving children with special needs (CSN). Teachers play a pivotal role in fostering social interaction, as effective communication greatly influences students’ emotional and social development. This study aims to describe how interpersonal communication applied by teachers at SLBN 7 Jakarta enhances the social interaction of CSN students. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The main informants were teachers working with students with diverse needs, including intellectual disabilities, hearing impairments, and autism. Findings indicate that teachers employ empathetic, adaptive, and personalized communication strategies aligned with each student’s characteristics. These strategies involve verbal and nonverbal language, gestures, and emotional support, which together create a comfortable and supportive learning environment. As a result, children with special needs were able to build peer relationships, gain self-confidence, and engage more actively in social activities. The study concludes that teachers’ interpersonal communication is a crucial factor in strengthening students’ sense of security, confidence, and social participation. Ultimately, interpersonal communication skills contribute significantly to improving the overall social development of children with special needs in inclusive learning contexts.

Abstract

Digital transformation has reshaped development communication by expanding access to information and strengthening community participation. However, digital literacy disparities remain a major challenge in rural areas, particularly among women who often face limited access to and productive use of digital technologies. In Indonesia, Women Farmers Groups (Kelompok Wanita Tani—KWT) play a strategic role in supporting food security, local economic empowerment, and community-based tourism development. Nevertheless, most empowerment programs continue to emphasize agricultural production and business capacity while paying insufficient attention to development communication supported by digital literacy. Furthermore, previous studies have generally examined digital literacy, women's empowerment, and rural tourism as separate topics, leaving limited conceptual integration among these perspectives. This conceptual paper aims to develop a development communication framework based on digital literacy to empower Women Farmers Groups in supporting the sustainable development of Brongkol Tourism Village, Sleman Regency. The study adopts a qualitative conceptual approach through an extensive literature review of scholarly articles, academic books, government policy documents, and reports from international organizations. The conceptual synthesis integrates Development Communication Theory, Diffusion of Innovations Theory, Digital Divide Theory, and UNESCO's Digital Literacy Global Framework. The proposed framework positions participatory development communication as the central mechanism for enhancing digital competencies through collaborative learning, knowledge sharing, digital content creation, and strategic use of digital media. Strengthened digital literacy is expected to improve the communication capacity of Women Farmers Groups, expand market access for local products, enhance tourism promotion, and increase women's participation in sustainable rural development. The proposed framework contributes to the literature by integrating development communication, digital literacy, women's empowerment, and community-based tourism into a comprehensive conceptual model that can guide the design of more inclusive and sustainable digital empowerment programs in rural communities.
