Abstract

Today's laser cutting machining process is often utilized in large industries as well as individual and student scientific projects. Acrylic is one of the materials whose processing involves a lot of laser cutting, but currently many laser cutting, especially low power ones, are not optimally optimized. In this study, the author wants to optimize laser cutting with 6.5 Watt power using the Taguchi optimization method on solid black acrylic material with a thickness of 3 mm, with reference to the surface roughness value of the workpiece after being subjected to the laser cutting process using the Ra unit. The control factors included are laser distance, laser power, cutting speed and cooling time. The experimental process was carried out 27 times with replication of measurements 2 times. The best result from the experiment was the roughness measurement value of 0.782 µm while the mean roughness value was 2.271 µm. After conducting the experiment, it is known that the best results are obtained with a laser distance factor of 20.6mm, cutting speed of 70 mm/min, laser power of 6.5 watts and cooling time of 10 s. Meanwhile, the effect of factors on the surface roughness results is the laser distance 27%, cutting speed 40.9%, laser power 18.9% and cooling time 7.05%. After calibrating the laser cutting, the cutting accuracy increased from ± 1mm to ± 0.4 mm or an increase of 60%, with an average final dimension measurement of 24.87 mm.

Abstract

One of the materials that may be utilized in polymer matrix composites is high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. Large amounts of HDPE plastic waste can harm the environment. Therefore, a solution is needed to overcome this problem. One solution to reduce plastic waste is to utilise it into polymer composite roof tiles. Roof tile surfaces are subjected to the greatest amount of solar heat radiation. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the composition of HDPE and teki grass on the value of solar radiation heat transfer and the value of thermal stability in polymer composite roof tiles. This research uses an experimental method by composites HDPE and teki grass with variations in the weight of teki grass used by 0%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The results show that 20% teki grass composition in the composite produces low radiant heat compared to 0% teki grass composition which tends to be higher. according to the findings of the thermal stability test., The maximum thermal stability was seen in the composite with 0% fiber composition. While the most unstable composite is at 20% fiber composition with a 5% weight loss at 164.47oC and 10% at 278.27oC.

Abstract

The packaging industry has experienced significant global growth, driven by increasing demand for cardboard packaging and the rising volume of packaging waste. This growth highlights the industry's need to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in production processes. Manual handling of cardboard sheets for folding and stacking is time-consuming, necessitating the development of automated solutions. This study introduces the cardboard folding machine, designed and fabricated by mechanical engineering students at UPN Veteran Jakarta. The machine comprises three main mechanisms: the input mechanism, the conveyor for folding cardboard sheets, and the output mechanism. To optimize production, performance testing is conducted to identify the most efficient speed settings to achieve maximum cardboard folding output. This testing also aims to promote the machine as a practical tool for potential users in the packaging industry. Previous research has explored various mechanisms for handling cardboard, including friction systems, slider systems, and vacuum systems. Each approach offers distinct advantages and challenges. By addressing these issues, the cardboard folding machine aims to improve production reliability in alignment with the needs of potential users. The results of this study delineate the advantages and disadvantages inherent to both friction and slider mechanisms. These results can be utilized to tailor the mechanisms according to the preferences of prospective users.

Abstract

Along with the advancement of science and technology, various types of tiles one of them is the use of polymer composites as the main material for making tiles. Roof tiles are generally made of clay and metal. The high use of plastic in Indonesia causes high waste generation and environmental damage. Efforts to reduce the generation of plastic waste are by utilizing plastic waste into polymer composite tiles. The tile requirement is that it must be able to withstand solar heat radiation and rainwater. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of solar radiation values on clay tile aerial, pure HDPE tile and 20% teki grass reinforced HDPE composite tile given 5% alkaline treatment for 4 hours. The test was carried out using exposure to direct solar radiation with a tile angle of 30o. The test data was obtained on the composition of 20% teki grass, the temperature produced on the upper and lower surfaces of the tile tends to be lower than pure HDPE and the top surface of the composite tile has a difference of 0.6oC higher than clay tile but for the bottom surface has a difference of 1.3oC lower than clay tile. Based on the radiation rate of HDPE and 20% teki grass tiles have a higher value than clay tiles so that HDPE reinforced teki grass 20% of tiles can be used as alternative materials to replace clay tiles because they have good heat resistance.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of biopellets as biomass energy fuel, focusing on physical and chemical characteristics based on the SNI 8021:2014 standard. The research method used is experimental with a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The raw materials used are a mixture of rambutan wood waste (Nephelium lappaceum L) and bintaro (Cerbera manghas) with tapioca flour as an organic binder. Testing includes proximate analysis (moisture, ash, volatile matter, and fixed carbon) and calorific value using an oxygen bomb calorimeter. The results show that the produced biopellets meet several parameters of the SNI 8021:2014 standard, such as moisture content, volatile matter, and fixed carbon. However, there is significant variation in ash test results among different diameters of biopellets tested. ANOVA test results indicate that mold diameter has a notation that has a significantly affect several biopellet characteristics, such as density and calorific value. This study also observed the potential for increased combustion efficiency of the produced biopellets. The results indicate that the raw material mixture used can reduce pollutant emissions during combustion. The conclusion of this study is that the use of a mixture of rambutan wood waste and bintaro with tapioca flour as an organic binder can produce biopellets with quality that meets standards for biomass energy applications.
