Abstract

The family represents the smallest unit within a society or a nation, generally consisting of parents and children whose marital status is legally recognized. Within the family structure, roles and responsibilities are distributed based on gender. This division of tasks aims to support the overall achievement of the family’s goals. This study investigates the negotiation of gender roles and economic welfare within dual-earner families, specifically analyzing how disproportionate female income contributions correlate with domestic task distribution and household prosperity levels. This research employed a survey method with a sample of 85 dual-earner families randomly selected from a total population of 109 families. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods and statistically tested with the Fisher Exact Test. The results indicate that domestic responsibilities are predominantly handled by wives, while public or social activities are performed jointly by both husbands and wives. Moreover, in 96.4% of the families, more than half of the total household income comes from the wives’ earnings. The majority of families, totaling 80 households (94.2%), are classified as first-level prosperous families, while the remaining 5 families (5.8%) fall into the pre-prosperous category. According to the World Bank classification, 3 families (3.6%) are in the extreme poverty category, 65 families (76.4%) are in the lower-middle-income group, and 17 families (20%) are categorized as upper-middle-income.

Abstract

This study analyzes the expression of emotion in the poem "Escape from the Pursuit of Opas" by Syekh Sidi Jamadi using a psycholinguistic approach using the Sapir–Whorf perspective that emphasizes the relationship between language and thought. The research problem focuses on how the language used in the poem reflects the poet's psychological condition, emotional experiences, and inner struggles when facing social pressures and colonial threats. Previous studies have mostly discussed classical poetry from the aspects of stylistics, semiotics, religion, and phonology, but have not examined the relationship between language and the poet's inner state psycholinguistically, so there is a gap that needs to be filled. This study aims to understand how language choices convey emotions such as fear, anxiety, despair, resignation, and hope. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data in the form of verses of the poem analyzed through in-depth reading, identification of emotional diction, and contextual interpretation. The results of the study show that the poet's language through repetition, metaphor, and choice of emotionally rich diction reflects his inner state and thought process. This study confirms that language does not only function to narrate external events, but also to represent psychological and emotional experiences, demonstrating the relevance of the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis in understanding the cognitive and affective dimensions of traditional Minangkabau poetry. Abstract

The development and utilization of ancient manuscript illumination need to be done. One of them is designing cloth motifs or batik motifs. The activity was carried out from August to December 2022 with partners Canting Buana Kreatif Padang Panjang and Dewi Busana Pesisir Selatan. The method used is counseling and training. The activity was carried out in six stages. First, preparations include administration, preparation of implementation schedules, licensing processes, and guidelines from August 19 to September 30, 2022. Second, clustered discussions to produce exotic narratives of batik motif designs on October 3 and 4, 2022. Third, batik production training is attended by batik artisans and prospective artisans and students from October 5 to 14, 2022 at Canting Buana Kreatif and Dewi Busana. Fourth, batik production from October 14 to 26, 2022. Fifth, digital marketing training on October 31 and November 1, 2022, at Andalas University. Sixth, an exhibition of batik products produced by the participants will be held from November 3 to December 4, 2022, at the Minangkabau Corner, Andalas University. This activity involves the participation of partners and students. 10 (ten) Students are actively involved in this activity. The benefits of this activity are expected to be the formation of a community ecosystem that is aware of the utilization of cultural heritage (ancient manuscripts) for the creative industry. This activity aims to develop and utilize the treasures of cultural heritage in the form of ancient manuscript illumination treasures for the enrichment of Minangkabau batik motif designs. This activity concludes that artisans from both batik houses and partner participants can develop and understand the philosophy of the motifs for developing Minangkabau ancient manuscript illumination.
