Abstract

Mempelajari bahasa pada usia anak-anak memiliki keunggulan baik secara biologis maupun secara psikologis. Faktor usia mulai belajar bahasa (age of onset/AO) merupakan salah satu faktor penentu keberhasilan belajar bahasa. Disamping itu belajar bahasa pada masa anak-anak akan lebih berhasil karena secara psikologis anak-anak terbebas dari rasa malu dan rasa takut salah seperti yang dialami pembelajar bahasa dewasa. Demikian halnya dengan pengajaran Bahasa Inggris di tingkat SD yang dikembangkan sebagai salah satu pilihan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler. Keberhasilan suatu proses belajar tidak bisa dilepaskan dari faktor guru pengajar di kelas. Guru yang memiliki kompetensi yang memadai dan memenuhi kriteria yang diperlukan untuk menjadi pengajar Bahasa Inggris yang baik dan menarik, akan sangat membantu proses pembelajaran. Namun, kendala yang terkait dengan kapasitas guru maupun fasilitas sekolah dapat membuat siswa kurang termotivasi mempelajari bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan pada analisa situasi diatas, kegiatan Pengabdian pada Masyarakat (Abdimas) ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan pada guru Bahasa Inggris dalam meningkatkan kemampuan mengajar Bahasa Inggris. Dalam kegiatan ini guru-guru diberi pendampingan tentang bagaimana mengajarkan bahasa Inggris, Teknik mengajarkan serta materi pembelajaran yang menarik agar dapat memotivasi siswa mempelajari bahasa Inggris. Tim pendamping bertindak sebagai narasumber pada kegiatan ini.

Abstract

This research was to find out (1) types of code-mixing and (2) dominant code-mixing level on Pak Ndul’s YouTube video channel. Findings of this research were divided into two parts – types and levels of code-mixing. The types consist of outer and inner utterances revealing 40 and 38 of 51% and 49 % respectively. Regarding levels, the highest percentage of the code-mixing level categories is word level by 54 %, whereas baster and idiom level categories share the lowest percentage on 2.40 %.  Keywords: Code-mixing, Qualitative approach, Percentage

Abstract

The objective of this research is to describe teacher strategies in online teaching and learning and the problems found in online learning activities. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research design using data from teacher practices in online teaching and learning. The data was gathered through interviews and online class observations with the teacher at a private junior high school. The strategies reveal the teacher used, such as using video, practicing dialogue, discussing the material learning, the model of teaching with media utilized, providing feedback on the material lesson, collecting assignments, and motivating students to participate in online learning activities. Regarding problems, the issues were about students lack of participation. They did not listen to the explanations in online learning, they played with their phones, they did not do tasks or activities, and they did not activate the camera. They turned on the camera merely at the beginning and the end of online learning.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims at finding the empirical evidence of the higher order thinking skill distribution based on revised edition of Bloom’s taxonomy in three English textbooks, namely: Pathway to English, Bahasa Inggris, and Buku Teks Pendamping Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK revised edition for the eleventh-graders of senior high school students and investigating the difference among those three English textbooks related to the higher order thinking skills (HOTS). This research used content analysis method. In collecting data, this research used checklist table to collect qualitative data in form of words which were on essay questions. It employed analysis card as the instrument to analyze the data. The results found that each textbook had different distribution of the HOTS that consisted of three skills, namely: analyzing skills or C4, evaluating skills or C5, and creating skills or C6. The analyzed skill in Pathway to English textbook and Bahasa Inggris (Buku Teks Pendamping) obtained same portion of distribution which contained 23 questions while Bahasa Inggris textbook only obtained 2 questions. Further, evaluating skills in Bahasa Inggris textbook obtained the highest distribution among others with 34 questions, Pathway to English textbook as the second obtained 22 questions while Bahasa Inggris (Buku Teks Pendamping) obtained 11 questions. Finally, creating skills from the English textbooks obtained the lowest distribution. Pathway to English textbook obtained 5 questions, Bahasa Inggris textbook obtained 6 questions and Bahasa Inggris (Buku Teks Pendamping) obtained 1 question. This research concludes that the skills of the HOTS among three English textbooks that analyzed skill or C4, evaluated skill or C5, and created skill or C6 were conditionally different and unequal to each other related to the distribution. Abstract

The study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of animated videos in improving students’ enthusiasm at SDK Sang Timur Yogyakarta and describing the improvement of students’ enthusiasm for learning English. The design of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the subject of this research was 25 students of the first graders of elementary school at SDK Sang Timur, located in Batikan, Yogyakarta. The observation indicated that students had difficulties in saying English words correctly and when they respond in the English language. Moreover, the result of cycle 1 showed that students’ enthusiasm for learning English got improved. Students still felt doubtful about responding to questions. They seemed to be excited about the video. In cycle 2, students’ enthusiasm improved. Students had a good recollection of the previous lesson when the researcher asked them about it. It also appeared that students became more active and enthusiastic about the lesson and seemed eager to learn more using animated videos. Therefore, it can be concluded that animated videos brought a positive learning environment and enthusiasm as they educated and entertained students at the same time. In short, an animated video was an effective tool for improving students’ motivation for learning English.

Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar dan Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy of kemendikbudristekdikti that encourages students to master science from various perspectives and equips students to face changes in science and technology in future. In MBKM, the role of education personnel is to bridge the distribution of information and services that are needed by the academic community. In its implementation, UST plays an active role in MBKM progamme including: Independent Student Exchange, Teaching Campus, and Independent Internship. In the management of MBM, it has been implemented in synergy with Tamansiswa teachings, one of which is honing, caring, and fostering using integrated technology and always improving the professionalism of educational staff.

Abstract

Bruner's stage of cognitive development is an alternative to knowing the characteristics of students other than Piaget's. It is hoped that teachers can find out the characteristics of students in thinking to prepare learning strategies that adjust to the characteristics of these students. For this reason, this research aims to describe Bruner's stages of thinking in grade 2 elementary school students on the theme of Caring for Animals and Plants. This research uses a qualitative approach with a single subject. The subjects in this study used a purposive technique, namely one 2nd-grade elementary school student. The instrument used in this study was the researcher as the main instrument and supported by documents of students' homework answers. Data analysis used descriptive techniques with data reduction steps, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that subject K used the stages of enactive and iconic thinking, while the stages of symbolic thinking were not carried out. For this reason, the teacher in giving problems is expected not to conflict with real life, and the issues faced by students must be seen clearly so as not to cause multiple interpretations by students.

Abstract

The background for the implementation of this research is the existence of disciplinary character education for students through habituation activities at school so that by instilling disciplinary character education it can discipline students more, both at school, at home, and in society. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach. This study aims to analyze and describe the implementation of disciplinary character education through habituation in elementary school students. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach. The research was conducted at SD Negeri Ngringin Moyudan, Sleman. The research subjects are school principals, teachers, and students. Observations, interviews, and documentation are used as data in this study. The technique of checking the validity of the data uses a triangulation technique. The results showed that in instilling disciplined character education through habituation at Ngringin Public Elementary School, namely 1) creating a character education program; 2) making school rules and class agreements; 3) making a liaison book for monitoring student disciplinary behavior at home; 4) providing moral messages on the walls of schools and classrooms; 5) involving parents/guardians of students in disciplinary character education; and 6) involving school committees in disciplinary character education.

Abstract

The research objectives include: 1) To describe the character formation of students through Social Studies class V at SD Negeri Bali Luhur, 2) To describe challenges and solutions for teachers in Social Studies learning for the character building of Class V students at SD Negeri Bali Luhur, 3) To describe efforts made to overcome obstacles in the implementation of Social Studies class V at SD Negeri Bali Luhur. This type of research is using descriptive qualitative research, which uses interview, observation, and documentation techniques. In this study, researchers will explore and find out whether the character building of students through social studies learning has been implemented or not. This research was conducted at Bali Luhur Public Elementary School, East Buay Madang District. The analysis used is the analysis of the Miles and Huberman models. Researchers reduce, present, draw conclusions, and verify data. Based on the results of data analysis, the conclusions are obtained: 1. The teacher carries out learning through 3 stages, namely introduction, core, and closing. At these 3 stages of learning the teacher forms the character of students through activities carried out by students with group discussions. Social studies learning can shape the character of students to be more sensitive to social problems that exist in everyday life, for example loving each other, living in harmony, then teaching students to learn how to tolerate each other, respect each other, trust each other, and mutual cooperation. 2) There is still limited time, there are still some who have not implemented or applied the character values ​​that have been taught by teachers at school, other factors are still limited facilities and infrastructure. The supporting factors are the existence of exemplary and guiding awareness from the teacher, the content of character education in learning tools (RPP), the existence of motivation, good coordination from all parties in the school, the cooperation of each component of the school in shaping the character of students with higher commitment. 3) Providing motivation to students, inviting students to play games in the middle of the learning process, other efforts the teacher makes to approach students, provide feedback and relate it to everyday life, and choose appropriate learning methods.

Abstract

Masa pandemi Covid 19 mengakibatkan pembelajaran dilakukan secara daring. Kendala paling besar adalah kemampuan guru mendesain dan mengembangkan bahan ajar bahasa Inggris serta implementasinya dalam pembelajaran daring. Tim pengabdian masyarakat Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa berupaya menyelesaikan permasalahan di kabupaten Wonosobo dan Kebumen melalui program pelatihan pengembangan bahan ajar bagi guru. Tujuannya agar guru mampu mendesain dan mengembangkan bahan ajar serta mengimplementasikannya dalam pembelajaran daring. Partisipan pelatihan ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris SMP, SMA, dan SMK kabupaten Wonosobo dan Kebumen. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian dengan pelatihan dan workshop. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian dapat tercapai yaitu 1) para guru bahasa Inggris memperoleh pengetahuan baru terkait pengembangan bahan ajar dan implementasinya di ruang kelas selama pembelajaran daring, 2) para guru bahasa Inggris mampu mendesain dan mengembangkan bahan ajar serta mengimplementasikan bahan ajar di kelas, dan 3) para guru bahasa Inggris tidak mengalami kesulitan dalam pengembangkan bahan ajar dan mengimplementasikan secara daring di tengah pandemi Covid-19
