Abstract

This research entitled “Investigat ing The Correlation Between CriticalThinking Ability and Grade Eleven Students’ Vocabulary Achievement at SMKBhakti Persada Bekasi” principally aims to investigate whether or not there iscorrelation between critical thinking ability and vocabulary achievement.Thisresearch was conducted on the grade eleven students at SMK Bhakti Persada,PondokGede, Bekasi, at in the Academic year of 2016/2017. Research methodeused in this research was correlation, quantitative and the design was ex-post factodesign.To collect data the researcher used two instruments in the form ofobjective, multiple choice each numbering 30 for X variable and 32 for Y variableout of 50 question items for X and also 50 items for Y having been tried out inclass XI at SMK Bhakti Persada, Pondokgede, Bekasi. The scores obtained fromthe try-out class were used to analyze the validity, reliability, discriminationpower and difficulty index of each question item in two instruments.Thepopulation of this research was grade eleven students consisting of 212 studentsoccupying 7 classes. The number of samples was 37 students seating inaccounting class taken from the population using cluster random technique. Theresults obtained from samples were used to analyze the data using statisticalformulas of Pearson’s Product Moment, preceded by normality and linearity testas the pre-requisite requirements for data analysis.The analysis using SPSS-basedProduct Moment formula produced significance (Sig.) value of 0.000. Since thesignificance value was smaller than (<) Alpha 0.05, Ho is rejected and Ha isaccepted. Accordingly the research concludes that there is significant correlationbetween critical thinking ability and grade eleven students’ vocabularyachievement at SMK Bhakti Persada Bekasi in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.

Abstract

This research principally aims to find out whether or not there is significance effect of using flashcard on students’ vocabulary acquisition. the research was conducted from 3th to 29th November 2016 at SMPN 45 Bekasi, in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.The research methodology adopted was quasi experimental method, with the research design being randomized post test only control group design. The statistic method used to analyze the data was ANOVA using SPSS through the testing of Null Hypothesis, which was preceded by the normality and homogeneity test as the pre-requisite to the data analysis. The result of ANOVA showed significance value was 0,000, which was lower than 0,05, and that Fobserved ( 35,926 ), which was higher than the critical value of Ftable (at the significance level of 0.05 and df = 1/58, namely 3.982. Accordingly, the Null Hypothesis (Ho), stating that there is no effect using flashcards on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi, was rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha), stating that there is significance effect using flashcards on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi was accepted.On the basis of the rejection of Ho and acceptance of HA, it can be concluded that flashcards has significance effect on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi. In other words, the research has empirically proved that there is significance effect of using flashcard on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi.

Abstract

This research aims to examine whether or not Collaborative Strategy Readingsignificantly affects on students’ reading comprehension. The research samples weretaken using cluster random sampling, with the total number of samples being 72students.The location of this research was SMK Pusaka 1 Jakarta. The research methodologyadopted was Quasi- Experimental methodby involving two groups, namely experimentgroup and control group, with the research design being randomized post-test only controlgroup design. To collect the data, the students were given objective test, numbering 30items. The research data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The findingsindicated that there was significant difference of post-test score between the students whois givenCollaborative Strategy Readingand students who did not getCollaborativeStrategy Reading. It can be seen from the data analysis by using ANOVA that showedFobserved (10.530) is higher than the critical value of Ftable (at the significant level of 0.05and df = 1/70), namely 3.98. It means that Collaborative Strategy Readinghas significanteffect on students’ reading comprehension in recount text.

Abstract

This research based on the important of the student’s critical thinking for general students. Critical thinking is very important in daily life. Because , students are required to have the ability to choose and sort the information that is good and true. This research to identify how far debate can effect student’s critical thinking. This research was classroom action research it consist of two cycle, each cycle consist of three meetings. The data had been taken from each cycle then the average is compared. If there is an enhance in this research it means the research is successful. But if there is no enhance in this research it means the research is failed. This research is conducted in Islamic University Of Assyafi’iyah, It was located in Jatiwaringin street. This research was involved the first Semester English Education Study Program was consist of 34 college students and they were as subjects of this research. This research was considered successful by researchers because there was a significant improvement from cycle one to cycle two, which 62,87 to 70,37. The results of this research help teachers to enhance students’ critical thinking through debate technique.

Abstract

English is very important, since English is one of international language for communication. Although English in Indonesia is a second language, in fact not all Indonesians use it well. It was determined by their mastery on vocabularies. Therefore, one of the creative efforts to create fun learning is by using a vocabulary game called Go Fish. It uses Flash Card media. This study aims to explore whether the Flash Card or Go Fish game media can improve student’s vocabulary or not. Experiment with Class Action Research (CAR) is used as the method of this study. The population of the study is fifth graders of Elementary School. This study uses 2 Cycles in which each cycle has 3 times. 2 material meetings or playing games and 1 meeting is a post test. In the first cycle the value of students is still below the KKM of the school, with an average of 62.5, while the English language standard of KKM School is 65. It is required to do the second cycle to achieve the KKM score of the school. And after doing the second cycle, the students' values ​​have reached the School KKM score with an average of 81.75. This means that there is a significant difference in the average value between the first and second cycles. Therefore, it shows that the media of Flash Card or Go Fish games can improve students' English vocabulary.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of using HelloTalk app to enhance the writing skills of language learners of the students 10th grade of As-syafi’iyah Islamic Senior High School 02. The type of research use is pre-experimental design (pre-test and post-test one group design) by using t-test with SPSS 22 for windows. Based on the result of research can be proved that there is significant effectiveness of using HelloTalk app in writing skills students 10th grade, in As-syafi’iyah Islamic Senior High School 02. This is shown by the pre-test mean (61,43) and the post-test mean (87,14). The correlation between two variables is 0,414 with sig of 0,028. This shows that the two averages pre-test and post-test is strong and significant.

Abstract

The phenomenon that emerge in the schools, particularly in Junior High School, just few students have a good ability in writing. Most of them have limited ability in writing. They usually take plenty of time if their teacher gives them a writing assignment. The students’ English achievement, especially in their writing ability is not sufficient. The students’ writing achievement is still low. One method that is considered to be effective to apply in language classroom is Guided Composition. It is a kind of writing composition which trains the students to write step by step. Composition might be defined as an act of putting sentences together (Spencer, 1967: 67). Constructing composition is not easy since it is a long process. Meanwhile, guided is giving the step or the way to do something.

Abstract

This study attempts to investigate the effect of the blended learning approach on student’s vocabulary achievement. The methodology of this study used Quasi experiment method and randomized post-test only control group design. A sample were 60 grade ten students of SMK Bina Insan Kamil, Bekasi where divided two experiments and control group which the experiment tough by a blended learning approach, and control group learned the same vocabularies trough conventional way. Analyze of the instrument in this study in items of validity, reliability, difficulty index and discrimination power used SPSS and analyze the data used T-test to know whether the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted or rejected. The result of this study showed that there was a significant effect of blended learning approach on student’s vocabulary achievement. The significant (Sig) score of 0.003 is smaller than (<) 0.05. So that this study has a significant effect of blended learning on student’s vocabulary achievement. Moreover, the approach of blended learning enhances their motivation to learn vocabularies in the learning process.

Abstract

This research is about An Analysis of Reading Literacy for College Students through Webtoon as Interactive Learning. Webtoon is one of a way aimed to interest students in reading literacy. The purpose of this research is to know whether the use of webtoon can be interactive learning and increase reading literacy. Also, this research was conducted by using qualitative data with descriptive analysis approach and triangulation data. The subject of this research was the 3rd semester of As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University 2020/2021 academic year which consisted of 20 students and take 5 students randomly. The data were gathered through observations and interviews of the instrument. The technique of data analysis in this study is thematic analysis through the answer of interview questions then the transcript to gain the topic to become a theme. The theme used to be analyzed as a result of this study. Based on the data, the result of this research showed that webtoon can be interactive learning and increase the reading literacy of students. Learning using the webtoon more simple and easy access. In other words, webtoon can be more interested in increase reading literacy for students.

Abstract

This study aims to at improving the vocabulary mastery in students' vocabulary by using advertisement media for grade 9 at SMPN 168 Jakarta. This research is a Classroom Action Research conducted, each cycle consists of 4 stages, namely: planning, action, observation and reflection with the research process (1) learning by using advertising media (2) planning the form of action in cycle 2 based on the results of cycle 1 reflection. research indicators show an increase in student learning outcomes. The research subjects were grade 9 students at SMPN 168 Jakarta in the odd semester 2021/2022, totaling 18 students. The results showed that in the cycle. The results showed that in the first cycle only 11 students (61.2%) achieved the KKM score (75), while 7 students (38.8%) were below the KKM score. The second cycle showed that only 2 people (11.4%) did not reach the KKM score. Meanwhile, 16 students (88.6%) whose scores exceed the KKM. The description of learning outcomes through advertising media for grade 9 students based on the results of the second cycle test, namely in the complete category reaching 88.6 percent and only a few students having learning outcomes through advertising media, namely 11.4 percent, in the first cycle students who completed only 61.2 percent and not completed as much as 38.8 percent. This illustrates that learning with the learning model with advertising media has been going well and can support increasing vocabulary with advertising media on social media. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers in teaching subject matter should prioritize the use of cooperative learning models using advertising media on social media.
