Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the daily behaviour of Crocodylus porosus in Jogja Animal Rescue Center (PPSJ). The daily behaviour included feeding habit, social behaviour, basking and movement. This research was using Focal Animal Sampling Method and observed for four months. As individual targets were male and female dominant of C. porosus, Monti and Bunda. The Runs test showed that the behavior of C. porosus had a pattern in daily activities. Based on Mann-Whitney U test, both male and female of C. porosus did not have any difference in feeding habit (U=16; n1= 6; n2=6; p>0,05), social behaviour (U=29; n1= 8; n2=8; p>0,05), basking (U=12; n1= 5; n2=5; p>0,05) and movement (U=16; n1= 6; n2=6; p>0,05).

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai keanekaragaman ikan air tawar di Sungai Opak DIY telah dilakukan dan dipublikasikan, tahun 2006, 2011 dan 2013. Data mengenai keanekaragaman ikan di Sungai Opak perlu dilakukan penambahan data, terutama data menyeluruh dari hulu hingga muara. Penambahan data perlu dilakukan, karena dimungkinkan ditemukan jenis ikan yang belum sempat tertangkap pada penelitian sebelumnya. Data jenis ikan yang tidak tertangkap pada penelitian sebelumnya, dapat menambah keanekaragaman jenis ikan di Sungai Opak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melengkapi dan menambah data keanekaragaman jenis ikan yang terdapat di sepanjang Sungai Opak, dari hulu hingga muara. Pengambilan sampel dari hulu hingga muara menggunakan metode Purposive Random Sampling dengan bantuan jaring besar, kecil dan jala tebar. Sampling secara umum dibagi dalam empat bagian yaitu: hulu, tengah, hilir dan muara. Pada penelitian yang kami lakukan, terdapat beberapa jenis ikan yang tidak dijumpai pada penelitian sebelumnya, yaitu: lima jenis ikan dibagian hulu, di bagian tengah terdapat tiga jenis ikan yang tidak dijumpai pada penelitian sebelumnya, baik sampling hulu maupun hilir. Di bagian hilir dijumpai tujuh jenis ikan saat penelitian ini dan tidak dijumpai pada penelitian sebelumnya. Pada bagian muara, dijumpai lima belas jenis ikan yang tidak dijumpai di hilir pada penelitian sebelumnya. Total terdapat 28 jenis ikan yang dijumpai di tahun 2013 tetapi belum dijumpai di penelitian sebelumnya.

Abstract

Kadal dan ular termasuk dalam hewan anggota bangsa Squamata, kelas Reptilia. Dua kelompok hewan reptil tersebut secara umum sering sekali ditemukan di dalam dan di sekitar kawasan hutan terutama yang memiliki sumber air. Bagi beberapa masyarakat, spesies ular dan kadal tersebut sering dimanfaatkan untuk dijadikan hewan peliharaan dan kadang dikonsumsi. Suaka Margasatwa Paliyan adalah kawasan hutan yang memiliki keanekaragaman spesies fauna yang perlu untuk diteliti. Kawasan dilindungi tersebut merupakan habitat bagi salah satu jenis cicak jenis baru yaitu Cyrtodactylus semiadii. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut perlu dilihat keanekaragaman spesies anggota reptil ordo Squamata di Kawasan Suaka Margasatwa Paliyan, Provinsi Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman jenis reptil anggota ordo Squamata yang ada di wilayah Suaka Margasatwa Paliyan. Kawasan Suaka Margasatwa (SM) Paliyan merupakan habitat bagi 7 spesies kadal dan 6 spesies ular. Keanekaragaman kadal dan ular di SM Paliyan berdasarkan Indeks Shanon-Wiener (H’) dikategorikan “sedang”, dimana nilai indeks untuk Kadal dan Cicak (Lacertilia) adalah H’: 1,45, dan Ular (Serpentes) adalah H’:1,6. Wilayah SM Paliyan cocok bagi habitat kadal dan ular karena memiliki termasuk ke dalam hutan yang rindang dengan semak yang lebat, sungai-sungai dan telaga, serta area yang jarang dijadikan aktivitas manusia.

Abstract

The diversity of freshwater fishes which inhabit in the river of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta is not yet well documented. Complete documentation is needed as starting point and continuous research on the fish diversity in DIY. Boyong-Code River flows across the DIY, and it upstream is located on the hillside of Merapi volcano. The Code River upstream is called Boyong River. The research was aimed to acquire data about the diversity of fish fauna along the Boyong-Code River in the DIY. Further, the research purpose is to know which species are rare, potential for aquaculture, and introductive. Samples are taken along the Boyong-Code River starting from upstream to downstream. Samples were collected using Purposive Random Sampling methods with fishnets. Sampling area generally divided into three location i.e., upstream, middle-stream and downstream. Species diversity of fish in the Boyong-Code River is consisted of 24 species, with 5 introductive species. There are eleven native fish species which are potential for cultivation (aquaculture), i.e.: Barbodes binotatus, Mystacoleucus obtusirostris, Rasbora lateristriata, Rasbora argyrotaenia, Barbonymus balleroides, Osteochilus vittatus, Hampala macrolepidota, Anabas testudineus, Channa striata, Clarias leiacanthus and Clarias batrachus. Abstract

There are five species of deer (family Cervidae) living in Indonesia today. Male deer possesses antlers, a unique character of male deer. Antlers have economic values for quite a long time. Antler’s growth is influenced by several factors, therefore each species of deer have its own unique antlers’ shape and size. Antler’s identification usually relies on size measurement and overall shape of complete antlers which still attach to the skull. It is difficult to identify shed, broken or individual antler. The purpose of the research is to understand antlers’ morphological characters on each species to become diagnostic characters. Specimens analysed were collections of LIPI and were analysed with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) using PAST3 software. The results showed each species of deer having their own unique antlers’ character, and so it can be used to determine the species of Indonesian deer. The important structures for identification are relief, pedicle, brow, bez, and main beam.

Abstract

There are 42 species of turtles; including sea turtle, freshwater turtle, tortoise, and softshell turtle (Reptilia: Testudines) living in Indonesia today. Turtles have economic values for quite a long time and it has led to illegal trade such as smuggling of carapace and plastron bones. Identification is needed to find out more details about the turtle species. Turtles have shells as unique features with different characteristics on each species. Shell’s identification usually relies on the shape of carapace and plastron. The purpose of this research is to understand turtle shell morphological characters and determine the diagnostic characters of each species. We conducted visual observation on specimen collections from the Laboratory of Animal Systematics, Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada and Museum of Biology, Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The result shows that each turtle species have their own unique shell bone’s characters, therefore it can be used to determine each turtle species of Indonesia.

Abstract

Banyu Nibo Waterfall is located near Nglanggeran, Gunung Kidul that well known for its eco-tourism development. The geographical and ecosystem condition could be providing unique habitat for herpetofauna. Herpetofauna has important role in the ecosystem as food chain components and even as environment bioindicator.The aim of this research is to asses the herpetofauna diversity in Banyu Nibo Waterfall as preliminary biodiversity data.  The research was conducted using VES (Visual Encounter Survey) assisted by 500 meters transect line. As a result, 15 species were found, mainly distributed on area with tree coverage.

Abstract

The frog genus Microhyla was considered as the South, East, and Southeast Asian frog species. Microhyla orientalis was described in 2013, distributed in Java and Bali, Indonesia. Thenceforth, it was known as the easternmost distribution of this genus within the oriental region, but recently this species was recorded from the Timor Island and Sulawesi on the Wallace regions. We applied molecular analysis to evaluate the taxonomic status  and the origin of the Wallacean population. Phylogenetic analysis using the partial 16S mitochondrial gene demonstrated that the Java, Timor and Sulawesi populations were not significantly different from the Bali population. This Wallacean population of M. orientalis was originated from Java and possibly it is accidentally distributed by humans through the expansion of agricultural activity.

Abstract

Penelitian keanekaragaman dan kemelimpahan herpetofauna telah dilakukan dalam upaya mendukung kelestarian herpetofauna di kawasan ekowisata Linggo Asri. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 10–23 Juli 2009 secara aktif nokturnal dan diurnal dengan menggunakan metode purpossive sampling yang terpusat di empat lokasi kajian. Selanjutnya hasil yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan indeks keanekaragaman Shanon & Wiener dan indeks kemerataan Simpson. Total telah ditemukan sebanyak 20 jenis herpetofauna terdiri atas 10 jenis amfibia, 7 jenis lasertilia dan 3 jenis ophidia. Jenis tersebut antara lain yaitu: Fejervarya limnocharis, Fejervarya cancrivora, Occydozyga sumatrana, Occydozyga lima, Hylarana chalconota, Huia masonii, Limnonectes macrodon, Microhyla achatina, Phrynoidis aspera, Polypedates leucomystax, Bronchocela jubata, Eutropis multifasciata, Dasia olivacea, Hemidactylus platyurus, Hemidactylus frenatus, Hemidactylus garnoti, Cyrtodactylus marmoratus, Ahaetula prasina, Oligodon purpurascens, dan Rhabdophis chrysargos. Diketahui dari jenis-jenis tersebut dua jenis yaitu Huia masonii dan Microhyla achatina merupakan endemik Jawa. Hasil analisis didapatkan nilai indeks keanekeragaman sebesar 2,93 di mana tergolong tinggi. Sedangkan indeks kemerataan sebesar 0,43 yang menandakan persebaran herpetofauna di kawasan ekowisata Linggo Asri tidak merata dan terkonsentrasi beberapa titik. Tipe vegetasi dan ketinggian tempat merupakan faktor ekologi utama yang mempengaruhi penyebaran herpetofauna di kawasan ekowisata Linggo Asri.
