Abstract

Abstract

The utilization of solar energy through photovoltaic (PV) systems continues to face efficiency challenges due to variations in light intensity and the sun’s changing position throughout the day. Static PV panels perform optimally only when positioned perpendicular to incoming sunlight, necessitating an adaptive tracking mechanism. This study designs and evaluates a low-cost dual-axis active solar tracking system employing light-dependent resistors (LDRs) and an Arduino Uno microcontroller to automatically adjust the panel’s orientation in response to solar movement. A five-day performance test was conducted comparing the dual-axis tracker with a fixed-panel system, measuring output power, voltage, current, and overall efficiency. Results show an average power increase of 7.41 W and an efficiency gain of 1.63% with the tracking system. A peak efficiency of 13.49% was recorded under low irradiance conditions, indicating the system’s ability to maintain optimal performance despite fluctuating light. These findings suggest that dual-axis tracking offers a practical and effective solution for enhancing PV efficiency, especially in regions with significant daily variations in solar intensity.

Abstract

The Indonesian government's initiative to meet a renewable electricity supply 2050 of around 100% and its ecological benefits, has an impact on the big challenge where the increasing number of photovoltaic (PV) systems due to high power input and risks to electricity network security conditioned sunny weather for a long time. This research aims to provide predictable power output for network operators, thereby enabling longer planning periods and increasing the protection of the national operational network. Independent consumption by household consumers will impact household energy behavior and affect the security of the electricity network. Consumption itself provides an incentive to increase the cost of energy use which will be much higher than the compensation received, so software is needed which can support PV system prediction patterns. This pattern will close the gap in software development in the process of implementing optimization and configuration based on PV estimates. The consumption planning optimization algorithm itself validates the predetermined scenario optimization process. This research contributes to the efficiency and stability of energy use in households.

Abstract

Thermal Energy Storage (TES) systems are essential for managing low-grade heat in renewable energy applications. This study evaluates the impact of flow rate and heating power on thermal stratification and efficiency within a 30-liter TES unit. Using an AI-assisted simulation framework, the system's performance was analyzed across varying flow rates (0.3–0.9 LPM) and heater capacities (1.5–2.0 kW). Results indicate that lower flow rates (0.3–1.2 LPM) effectively preserve stratification, whereas higher rates induce thermal mixing. While charging efficiency generally decreases as target temperatures rise, it improves significantly with higher heater power. Notably, the configuration using a 0.7 LPM flow rate and 2.0 kW heater achieved a peak efficiency of 78% while maintaining stable thermal layering. This research demonstrates how AI-driven modeling can optimize charging behavior, providing critical insights for the design and thermal management of compact TES systems in low-grade heat applications.
