Abstract

Abstract

Fish oil contains eicosapentaenoic acid (E.P.A.) and docosahexaenoic acid (D.H.A.) which are beneficial for heart health, controlling blood glucose, reducing atherosclerosis, and lowering the risk of cancer. This study aims to determine the effect of commercial feed supplemented with cod liver oil on blood glucose levels and pancreatic histology of male rabbits. Twenty rabbits were divided into four groups, namely commercial feed supplemented with cod liver oil 3% (P1), 4.5% (P2), 6% (P3), and commercial feed without cod liver oil supplementation (control). Each group consisted of five rabbits, and the treatment was given for four weeks. The parameters observed were blood glucose levels in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th weeks and the histology of the male rabbits’ pancreas. Data were analyzed by Anova. The results showed that in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd weeks there was no significant difference (P>0.05). In contrast, in the 4th  and 5th weeks, there was a significant difference (P<0.05) between the control and treatment of cod liver oil supplementation on blood glucose levels in male rabbits, and the observational results on the histology of rabbits showed normal pancreatic histology. In conclusion, cod liver oil supplementation on commercial feed controlled blood glucose levels, and there was no disturbance in the histological structure of the pancreas of male rabbits. Keywords: fatty acid, glucose, cod liver oil, pancreas, rabbit

Abstract

Stunting is still a health problem faced by Indonesian children. The incidence of stunting according to Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) in 2021 was 24.4% and in 2022 it’s decrease to 21.6%. There were exceeds from WHO recommended requirement 20%. Holistic efforts from the government and society were needed to accelerate stunting reduction. This research aims to produce an integrated approach model such as nutrition education, tuina massage and psychomotor training (Gina Latrik) in accelerating to decrease of stunting rates. This type of research is true experimental. Subjects were divided into two groups, ie;  “Gina Latrik B” treatment group (balanced nutrition education, massage Tuina therapy with a frequency of 3–5 times/week and psychomotor training) and control group “Gina Latrik A” (balanced nutrition education, massage therapyTuinawith a frequency of 1–2 times/week and psychomotor training). The average knowledge level of toddler mothers after given the intervention was 83.66 ± 4.04% in the control group and 87.98 ± 5.88% in treatment group and significant difference with p=0.040 (p0.05). The results of research on macronutrient intake (energy, protein) in two groups showed significant differences (p0.05) and nutrient intake in Gina Latrik B was better than Gina Latrik A. Nutritional status results with height/age shows that the Z score = 2.17 ± 0.379 (Gina latrik A) dan 2.73 ± 0.452 for Gina Latrik B) with p=0.003 (p0.05), there was a significant difference on t-independent analysis. That means the Gina Latrik B was better than Gina Latrik A. Psychomotor development shows an increase in both groups, in Gina Latrik A there is an increase in psychomotor ability in the "appropriate" category of 33,30% to 60%. Meanwhile, in the Gina Latrik B group there was a sharp increase from 39.39% to 90.91%. Based on analysist independent showed a significant difference p = 0.003 (p0.005). Based on the results it can be prove that Gina Latrik B intervention was better for decreasing of stunting compared to Gina Latrik A.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems are vital coastal habitats that provide ecological, economic, and medicinal benefits. Sonneratia alba, a dominant mangrove species in Muara Gembong, Indonesia, is traditionally utilized for food products and herbal remedies; however, limited studies have compared its organ-specific phytochemical profiles. This study investigates the qualitative composition of secondary metabolites in the leaves and fruits of S. alba using 96% ethanol extracts and standard phytochemical screening methods. The results revealed that both plant parts contained saponins, tannins, phenolics, flavonoids, and glycosides, while triterpenoids were exclusively detected in the leaves, and steroids were absent in both organs. These findings highlight distinct organ-specific variations in secondary metabolites, suggesting that leaves may possess greater therapeutic potential than fruits. The identified bioactive compounds exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties, underscoring their relevance for natural drug discovery and the development of functional foods. Moreover, promoting the pharmacological value of S. alba contributes to enhancing community awareness and participation in mangrove conservation. This study provides a scientific basis for future exploration of targeted bioactivity and sustainable utilization of S. alba in coastal ecosystem management.
