Abstract

Abstract

This paper investigates PWM method for the dual-inverter fed open end winding three-phase induction motor drives. This is aimed to improve the quality of the output voltage as well as to enhance the motor performance by solving the drawback of the PWM method. The proposed PWM method operates two inverters in different technique, i.e one inverter operates in square wave mode (slow switching) and one inverter in PWM mode (fast switching). Although the PWM method can improve the quality of the inverter output voltage over the two-level inverter output, the proposed PWM method causes an excessive ripple in both torque and stator current especially at the transient period. The drawback is solved by applying a new switching strategy that manage the inverter switches operate in turn between slow switching and fast switching in one circle of operation. The proposed method is verified via simulation. The result shows that the quality of output voltages improves for all modulation indices in comparison with two-level inverter. Furthermore, torque ripple is reduced, and current ripple are improved as the current waveform is enhanced to be more symmetrical.

Abstract

Switching is very important in energy conversion systems. The conversion process requires a good and reliable method. This research identifies methods or techniques for pulse width modulation. This technique proposes a new model of modulation technique, namely by combining level shifted modulation techniques, and adjusting the frequency in such a way that it produces a signal that suits the inverter's needs. The inverter tested in this research is an inverter with a bridge model configuration. The proposed research and methods were verified using MATLAB and Simulink software. The results obtained are the ratio of total harmonic distortion (THD) are 25.07%, 76, 66% and 9.183%, respectively

Abstract

Three-phase inverters are widely used in industrial applications, including motor drives, renewable energy systems, and electric vehicles. One significant issue in these systems is harmonic distortion, which lowers power efficiency and degrades output voltage quality. To address this, the study proposes a quadratic polynomial fitting technique to optimize Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signals, aiming to reduce harmonics and improve power quality. This research focuses on a dual three-phase inverter configuration, which provides better current distribution, reduced power losses, and increased resilience to electrical disturbances. The use of quadratic polynomial fitting allows for more precise PWM waveform generation, resulting in lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THDi). The methodology involves mathematical modeling, simulation using MATLAB/Simulink, and experimental validation with a prototype inverter. Results indicate that the technique significantly reduces THDi, especially at optimal modulation indices. Additionally, implementing an LC filter further improves harmonic suppression, producing a cleaner and more stable output. This approach enhances power conversion performance and is highly suitable for industrial and renewable energy applications where efficiency and power quality are critical

Abstract

Many people do not understand how to use household electricity safely and economically. The above problems are also experienced by residents in Cemare Hamlet, Lembar Selatan Village, Lembar District, Lombok Barat Regency. To overcome this problem, the solution offered to the residents of Cemare Hamlet is to carry out counselling regarding this matter. This counseling will enable the residents of Cemare Hamlet to understand how to use household electricity safely and economically so that it can support the safety and efficiency of sustainable use of household electricity. On the day agreed between the counselling team and the residents of the hamlet, this counselling was carried out at the house of one of the residents of the hamlet. After most of the residents had attended, the event finally began. The counseling began with remarks from the team of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mataram University, followed by counselling and questions and answers regarding the counselling material. Next, a written and verbal evaluation was carried out (because there were residents who were still illiterate) by the counselling team to the hamlet residents. There are 10 questions given, each worth 10 related to the counseling material that was given previously. The results obtained were that 73.33% of participants answered the questions given with a score of fair to very good, while 26.66% of participants answered the questions given with a score of very poor to poor. These results show that this counselling activity has provided knowledge to residents of Cemare Hamlet regarding the safe and economical use of household electricity.

Abstract

Fishermen, as a part of the human resources that require energy in carrying out their activities, need to prepare themselves with knowledge about the use of renewable energy for future needs. The 'Obor Kehidupan' Fishermen's Group in Cemare Hamlet does not yet have knowledge about renewable energy due to their lack of educational background. This activity has a purpose about renewable energy socialisation so that the fishermen's group member able to understand the various types of renewable energy and the potential of renewable energy in their area. Based on interviews before the socialisation, it was found that the knowledge of renewable energy among the fishermen's group members was still lacking. After the socialisation was conducted, the results were obtained that 73.91% of participants answered questions about renewable energy with a score of sufficient to very good, while 26.09% of participants answered the same question with a score of very poor to poor. This indicates that the socialisation that have been carried out have provide an understanding of renewable energy to the majority of the fishermen's group members.
