Abstract

This research aimed to enhance reading interest and reading culture among children at Fiber Permata Kasih orphanage. The research subjects were elementary school-aged children residing in the orphanage. The identified problem was the lack of reading culture among these children, leading to learning difficulties. This issue was exacerbated by the digitalization trend and the use of gadgets, which consumed the children's time for reading books. This research was an educational mini-project utilizing the social group work approach. The Delphi method was employed through Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The stages of social group work were carried out, ranging from the preparation to the termination phase. Activities were conducted in the form of interactive sessions using engaging picture and game methods to attract children's interest in reading. The research results demonstrated an increase in reading interest and reading culture among the orphanage children after participating in the activities. The children became more interested in reading and understood the importance of reading for their learning process at school. The implication of this research is the need to develop programs that promote the growth of reading culture among children from an early age, particularly for those living in orphanages

Abstract

Food security is a condition where food is met for all people and countries at all times, reflected in food that is nutritious, safe, high quality, diverse, nutritious, affordable and does not conflict with the religion, beliefs and culture of the community. Food security is an important and strategic matter, because several countries have shown that no country can carry out development steadily until it is able to realize food security first. Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food ensures that the government together with the community achieves food security for all Indonesian people. Because Indonesia is a country with a large population and a high growth rate, efforts to achieve food security are a challenge that must be prioritized for the nation's welfare. Because there must be an institution that regulates availability, stability and consumption patterns. Indonesia is one of the countries that pays attention to the food of its people, through Presidential Decree No. 66 of 2021 the government established the National Food Agency. For this reason, the role of mothers throughout Indonesia is needed to intelligently and creatively increase family food security. Stunting is a condition where children are shorter than their age which is caused by a lack of physical energy for a long time. Malnutrition in babies can occur from in the womb until the baby is 2 years old. Only after the baby is 2 years old can he be seen

Abstract

This study explains the comparison of challenges between Indonesian peasants (Mandoge) and Ugandan coffee peasants using a critical, systematic, and comparative qualitative research approach. Several sources used are the researcher's direct experience, books, journals, and other scientific works. The results of the study show that the challenges of Mandoge peasants and coffee peasants in Uganda have many similarities and also have differences that are not so significant. Both Mandoge peasants and Ugandan coffee peasants have the same challenges, namely experiencing land grabbing and eviction by companies and are certainly related to the government. Furthermore, to overcome this, they both established cooperatives which ultimately also went bankrupt. Meanwhile, in terms of differences, Mandoge peasants are more aware and willing to find solutions to the incidents that befell them, while Ugandan coffee peasants seem to be stagnant or confused about how to act due to lack of knowledge. However, in reality, land evictions in any world are not commendable actions that can be carried out arbitrarily because they are in power.

Abstract

The Field Work Practice (PKL) activities, which are integrated with the Campus Teaching Program of USU Cohort 2, span approximately 4 months and are conducted at the UPT SD Negeri 060887 Medan. Campus Teaching is an initiative that provides an opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom for a full semester. They become teacher partners and play a role in developing creative and innovative teaching strategies with a focus on improving student literacy skills. In its execution, I was responsible for classes 1 to 6, with a focus on literacy in reading for classes 1-3 and literacy in writing for classes 4-6. I adopted creative learning methods, including using electronic media to promote a culture of literacy. To assist students with limited learning interest, I applied an emotional approach, created a comfortable learning environment, integrated learning with play, and used music and poetry as engaging learning approaches. Additionally, breath control techniques were utilized to maintain the quality of learning when students felt fatigued.

Abstract

The development of global and national tourism faces serious challenges related to environmental degradation due to unsustainable mass tourism practices. This study aims to analyze the strategic contribution of environmental education to the development of sustainable and responsible tourism in Indonesia. The research uses a qualitative approach with a systematic literature review method, based on the perspective of environmental sociology and critical education. The data sources consist of scientific journal articles, academic books, policy reports, as well as relevant case studies, collected through databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and DOAJ. The data collection technique is carried out through thematic tracing, while the data analysis is carried out interpretively with a thematic approach. The results of the study show that environmental education is able to increase ecological awareness, form ethical tourism behavior, and strengthen the conservation of local natural resources and culture. Implementation challenges include limited resources, resistance from industry players, and lack of policy support. However, community-based and participatory educational approaches have proven effective in a number of tourist destinations. The conclusions of this study affirm the importance of integrating environmental education in tourism management policies, curricula, and practices to support more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development.

Abstract

This study examines the agrarian conflict between transmigrant farmers in Jambi Province and PT. Kaswari Unggul from a social-historical perspective. The research investigates how the New Order's transmigration policy in the 1980s shaped patterns of land ownership, social change, and agrarian tension in Sukamaju Village, East Tanjung Jabung Regency. Using a critical historical approach combined with qualitative case studies, the data were collected through in-depth interviews, contemporary media analysis, and literature review. The findings reveal that the transmigration program, initially designed to promote equitable population distribution and agricultural productivity, instead generated structural inequalities and land disputes between local communities and private plantation companies. The state's developmental agenda, framed within modernization and economic growth narratives, failed to protect the rights and welfare of transmigrant farmers. The persistence of agrarian conflicts illustrates the long-term social impact of the New Order’s policies, which continue to influence rural dynamics and peasant struggles in Jambi today.

Abstract

The Russia-Ukraine war triggered a global fertilizer supply crisis, revealing the vulnerability of import-dependent agricultural systems. This study examines Indonesia’s policy response to the fertilizer supply crisis during the 2022 Russia–Ukraine war, focusing on the expansion of subsidies for urea and Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium fertilizers. The objective is to identify how Indonesia’s policy represents a Reformist trend – one of Holt-Giménez and Shattuck’s typologies – within the corporate food regime. Using a qualitative research method, the study draws on secondary data, including policy documents, government budget reports, and statements from international organizations. The findings show that Indonesia’s policy actions exemplify the Reformist trend within the corporate food regime, in which the state seeks to manage crises and maintain political stability without transforming structural dependencies.
