Abstract

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) plays important role in increasing plant growth and plant protection against pathogen. Its diversity depends on their habitat, including the abundance and distribution of the host plant on agricultural area. This research has aim to explore the diversity of AMF from the rhizosphere of Pokem (Setaria italica) using trapping methods. Soil samples were collected from Numfor Island, Biak Numfor, Papua. The isolation of AMF from the soil sample was elucidated by wet sieving method. Every different spore then was inoculated to the root of Desmodium heterocarpon to propagate and monosporic culture was grown on Shorgum bicolor.  The result showed that the number of the spore that was obtained by traping method increased up to 63,63%. Single spores inoculation of AMF on D. heterocarpon was high percentage (85%) of success. On average, Monosporic culture of single spore inoculation on S. bicolor reached up to 30,53 spores/10g soil sample.  There are 6 genera (9 species) were obtain in this study, namely Glomus, Claroideoglomus, Scutellospora, Gigaspora, Ambispora and Acaulospora. Furthermore, identification using molecular method should be done for proper identification.Key words: AMF, plant rhizosfer, S. italica, trapping methods

Abstract

One of the variants of native chicken that is quite potential to be developed in Indonesia is the KUB chicken. The quality and production of free-range chicken eggs can be increased by providing quality feed. One alternative source of quality feed is the use of Indigofera zollingeriana leaves. This study aims to determine the increase in egg production and internal quality by adding Indigofera zollingeriana Leaf Flour (ILF) in KUB chicken rations. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments, namely R0 (control), R1 (7.5% ILF), R2 (15.0% ILF), R3 (22.25% ILF), and R4 (30.0% ILF) and 6 replicates. Observation parameters include Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), egg production, egg weight, Hen Day Production (HDP), and internal egg quality. The results showed that adding ILF significantly increased production, internal egg quality, and ration conversion but had no significant effect on ration consumption. The highest increase in egg production was obtained by treatment with 15% and 22.5% ILF, with HDP 53.87%. The increase in egg weight quality, egg yolk index, white egg index, and egg yolk color were highest in the treatment with 30% ILF compared to the control. Giving ILF 22.5% gave the lowest FCR value compared to other treatments. It was concluded that providing ILF in the ration significantly increased egg production and internal quality in KUB chickens.

Abstract

Kondisi tanah berkapur dan ketidaktersediaan tanaman sagu sebagaimana sumber bahan pangan utama orang Papua menyebabkan masyarakat berusaha menyediakan bahan pangan lokal, termasuk pokem. Nilai gizi biji tanaman ini cukup tinggi sehingga berpotensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai salah satu upaya dalam mengatasi ketahanan pangan nasional.ABSTRACTCarrying capacity of the habitat plays important role in the fulfillment of human needs. The effort of pokem plant {Setaria italica (L.) Beauv} domestication in Numfor Island, Biak Numfor regency has been started by local communities since long time ago. The Plant grouping as grass (Family: Poaceae) have been used as local foodstuff. The aim of the study is to know the usage and cultivation of the plant performed by local communities in Numfor Island in strugling of fulfilling local foodstuff.  The result showed cultication of pokem has been done from one to other generation since their ancestors had arrived for the first time in the Numfor Island. Culture systems that they do are still relatively simple (conventional). Community has used of land around the village because it is easily affordable. Agricultural system is still done with the pattern of shifting cultivation. Condition of natural resources in the area of the island is very limited. The soils is calcareous and unavailability of sago palm as a major food source among Papuans enable the community to find  the alternative sources to provide local food, including pokem. The nutritional value of the seeds of this plant is quite high, so it would be possible to develope as one candidate to strengthen national food security.

Abstract

Indonesia is rich of natural resources, including the diversity of agricultural crops and other valuable plants. Many plant species used by local people for traditional herbal medicine and some other species used by drug industries. Among these, Wati (Piper methysticum, Piperaceae) is one of the medicinal plant found in Merauke lowland, Papua. It has been cultivated by local people because of it high value as medicinal and cultural uses. Wati plant is used to treat anti-stress, rheumatism, respiratory tract infections, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, headache etc. The habitat, including the microorganism in the soil plays an important role in the growth of this plant. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) associated with the rhizosphere of Wati from Merauke lowland. Soil and root samples were collected from different locations and the colonization percentage on the root sample were determined. Our results showed that the number of the spores in the soil samples was 45-89 spores/50 g soil, while the colonization percentage on the root was 38.46-83.3%. Among 13 AMF morphospecies that found on the soil samples, 10 were identified to genus level such as Glomus, Clariodeoglomus, Acaulospora and Scutellospora, while the other were unidentified. Further work will be needed such as trap-plant culture method to get more information on the diversity of AMF associated with Wati.
