Abstract

Marine debris is a material wasted intentionally or unintentionally into coastal and marine environment caused by human activities. Trash has become one of the biggest contributors to coastal and marine pollution that may disrupt the balance of aquatic ecosystem, reduce the aesthetic value of coastal and marine areas, and even disturb human health. This research was conducted to provide information regarding type, weight, and source of trash found around western coastal area of Ampenan Beach, Mataram City. Sampling spots which represented a condition of study area were determined using purposive sampling. Two research locations were chosen around Ampenan Beach, namely Penghulu Agung Beach and estuary of Jangkok River. Trash collection was done done using line transect method based on criteria determined from length of the coastline. The trash collected was then sorted, weighed, and identified based on trash classification system. Marine trash found around the research locations, both at Penghulu Agung Beach (Stasion 1) and at estuary of Jangkok River (Station 2), was dominated by plastics with an average number of trash pieces, respectively, of 7 item/m2 and 9 items/m2. Meanwhile, the weights of plastic trash found at station 1 and 2, respectively, were 29,76 gr/m2 and 213 gr/m2. The amount of plastic trash found at research locations might be the impact of human activities throwing the trash into the estuary and the beach.

Abstract

Marine debris severely threatens the balance of marine ecosystems. Toxic waste content can contaminate water and substrates. The physical form of hard and sharp waste material can hurt marine organisms. This research aims to analyze the characteristics of meso sized marine debris in tourist destinations on west coast of Mataram city. Samples were collected at two stations that representing the tourist destinations on west coast of Mataram City, namely Penghulu Agung Beach and Ampenan Beach. Waste measurement using a 3 transect system measuring 10x10 m which is divided into 10 plots measuring 1x1 m for each station. Waste observed in this research was meso-size marine debris. Each item were identified, then calculated for relative density and density per item based on number and weight. Based on the results of the research, 10 categories of waste were obtained at both stations. This type of waste includes plastic, rubber paper, textiles, wood, metal, glass, ceramics, hazardous and toxic materials (B3), and other waste. Plastic waste dominates at both stations, reaching 68% for Station I and 75% for Station II. The density of waste is higher at Station II with an average of 8.67 items.m-2 compared to Station I with an average of 3.33 items.m-2. At Station I there is an average of 2.27 items.m-2 of plastic waste while in station II, plastic waste is much higher, which is 6.47 items.m-2. The average weight of total meso-sized waste collected from stations I and II is 2.78 g.m-2. Station I has a total waste weight of 0.56 g.m-2 and station II weight 4.99 g.m-2. The highest waste weight is for plastic waste type which is 0.24 g.m-2 at station I and 2.49 g.m-2 at station II.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi pengembangan kawasan ekowisata mangrove serta memberikan pemahaman kepada kelompok masyarakat mengenai pengelolaan kawasan ekowisata mangrove yang saat ini telah dikembangkan di Pantai Labu Sawo, Desa Penyaring, Kecamatan Moyo Utara, Kabupaten Sumbawa. Dusun Labu Sawo memiliki pantai yang sangat indah dan termasuk dalam Kawasan Strategis Cepat Tumbuh Samota. Keunggulan lain yang dimiliki kawasan ini adalah vegetasi mangrove yang masih rapat dan alami. Pengembangan kawasan ekowisata hutan mangrove telah dilakukan oleh masyarakat melalui Kelompok Sadar Wisata (POKDARWIS) Labu Sawo. Walaupun demikian, pengelolaan ini belum maksimal karena kurangnya informasi yang dimiliki oleh kelompok tersebut mengenai potensi apa saja yang dapat dikembangkan di kawasan mangrove untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat sekitar. Melalui kegiatan penyuluhan ini, beberapa potensi yang dimiliki oleh Dusun Labu Sawo berhasil diidentifikasi. Hasil pembobotan potensi yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa kawasan ini sangat layak (72,8%) untuk dikembangkan dan dikelola menjadi kawasan ekowisata. Selain itu, diskusi dengan masyarakat setempat juga menunjukkan bahwa potensi-potensi yang ada memang belum dapat dikembangkan lebih jauh. Dengan demikian, masih diperlukan pelatihan-pelatihan terkait untuk meningkatkan jumlah SDM berkualitas serta kegiatan pendampingan masyarakat untuk pengembangan kawasan ekowisata sangat dibutuhkan bagi kawasan ini.

Abstract

Penyu merupakan salah satu biota laut yang dilindungi karena keberadaannya sudah terancam punah, terutama untuk beberapa jenis penyu, yaitu penyu belimbing (Dermochelys coriacea), penyu kemp’s ridley (Lepidochelys kempii) dan penyu sisik (Eretmochelys imbricata). Terbatasnya informasi yang diterima masyarakat menyebabkan upaya pelestarian penyu dilakukan secara tradisional sehingga tidak berjalan optimal, salah satunya yang terjadi di Pantai Mapak Indah, Kelurahan Jempong Baru, Kecamatan Sekarbela, Kota Mataram. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan penyuluhan dan pendampingan kepada masyarakat, khususnya Kelompok Pelestari Penyu Pantai Mapak Indah mengenai bentuk-bentuk upaya pelestarian penyu yang baik dan benar. Berdasarkan pengamatan dan hasil wawancara selama kegiatan pengabdian ditemukan beberapa kegiatan dalam upaya pelestarian penyu di Pantai Mapak Indah yang dirasa kurang sesuai sehingga perlu untuk diluruskan dan diperbaiki. Rekomendasi yang diberikan dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini antara lain terkait dengan lokasi pengambilan telur, desain sarang peneluran, waktu pelepasan tukik, pemberian pakan tukik, dan keramaian akibat tingginya aktivitas warga di lokasi pelestarian penyu. Masyarakat menyambut baik rekomendasi yang diberikan dan berharap dapat mendapatkan pendampingan secara kontinu sehingga kegiatan pelestarian penyu dapat semakin dioptimalkan. Dengan demikian, kegiatan penyuluhan ini sangat bermanfaat bagi masyarakat khususnya pengelola wisata penyu Pantai Mapak Indah karena menambah wawasan mereka mengenai praktek konservasi penyu yang baik dan benar

Abstract

Limbah udang dapat diolah menjadi bahan tambahan makanan untuk menciptakan rasa baru atau sebagai penguat rasa yang berpotensi menggantikan perasa sintetik yang dijual di pasaran. Limbah ini bisa didapatkan dengan mudah dan murah, bahkan selama ini hanya dibuang begitu saja. Untuk memanfaatkan peluang ini, maka kegiatan pelatihan pengolahan limbah udang sebagai bahan tambahan makanan penting untuk dilakukan. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan ibu-ibu pesisir yang kurang produktif sebagai ide usaha untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan ekonomi keluarga. Lokasi pengabdian adalah di Desa Pemenang Barat, Kabupaten Lombok Utara yang diketahui sebagai wilayah wisata dengan kuliner laut sebagai daya tarik. Metode yang dipakai adalah melatih langsung pembuatan kaldu bubuk dan stik keju udang, kemudian dilakukan evaluasi untuk pengembangan. Hasil pelatihan adalah ibu- ibu pesisir mampu membuat sendiri olahan limbah udang setelah diberikan contoh dan ingin ada kegiatan serupa di masa yang akan datang, terutama untuk pendampingan usaha. Pendampingan usaha yang dimaksud adalah mulai dari izin pendirian usaha, memperoleh sertifikasi halal, pengemasan yang baik serta menentukan jalur pemasaran. Pelatihan pengolahan limbah udang hingga menjadi stik keju menjadi tambahan ilmu baru bagi ibu-ibu pesisir setempat. Proses pembuatannya yang mudah dan bahan bakunya yang murah menjadikan hal ini berpotensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi tambahan alternatif mata pencaharian yang layak mendapat dukungan dari pemerintah setempat.

Abstract

Teluk Jor terletak di kawasan pesisir pantai selatan Kecamatan Jerowaru, Lombok Timur. Merupakan kawasan kegiatan budidaya perikanan dengan salah satu komoditas andalannya adalah Ikan Kerapu, Bawal, serta Lobster Pasir (Panulirus homarus). Kegiatan budidaya dengan memanfaatkan Keramba Jaring Apung (KJA) sebagai wadah untuk budidaya dan memberikan pakan ikan rucah sebagai pakan utama. Pemberian pakan secara tidak terkontrol dapat mempengaruhi kondisi perairan yang bisa merusak kondisi kualitas air dan memberikan dampak langsung terhadap organisme yang dibudidayakan termasuk kerapu, bawal, dan lobster pasir. Oleh karena itu dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini diberikan pengetahuan mengenai kondisi perairan di Kawasan Teluk Jor saat ini dan meningkatkan pengetahuan pembudidaya untuk menjaga kualitas perairan yang ada di sekitarnya. Diharapkan dari kegiatan ini dapat mendukung kegiatan budidaya dan berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kesejahteraan para pembudidaya. Metode yang digunakan antara lain pengambilan data kualitas air di lapangan dan menyampaikan informasi/materi terkait kondisi budidaya perikanan untuk optimalisasi produksi dan efisiensi biaya produksi dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi dengan peserta.

Abstract

Mangrove fruit processing in Jerowaru Village is still not utilized properly. Whereas mangrove fruit has great potential to be processed into various products. One form of processed mangrove fruit is to make jelly candy. Its sweet and sour taste makes this product an alternative that is much in demand by children and adults because it contains nutrients such as carbohydrates, vitamin C, phenols to anti-oxidants for the body and can have economic value for the surrounding community. One alternative is to conduct training in the manufacture of jelly candy made from raw materials of mangrove fruit. This is done as an effort to increase added value in making local food that has nutritional and economic value. The approach method applied in this service activity is an active participation method, namely by involving coastal community groups in making jelly candy. The enthusiasm of the local community to be able to take part in this activity was high, so we limited the number of participants to 25 people. The participants of the activity included the PKK women's group, youth youth groups and the Bale Mangrove Pokmaswas group. The material presented was about the process of processing mangrove fruit into jelly candy that can be used. The results of this service activity are increasing the knowledge and skills of the participants in processing Sonneratia alba mangrove fruit into jelly candy that can be consumed by all types of people. Furthermore, jelly candy can be packaged as attractively as possible to increase marketability and can be used as a characteristic of Jerowaru Village.

Abstract

Mules Island and its surroundings are included in the Savu Sea National Park (TNP) area and administratively included in the Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT). The waters of the area have a high potential for coral reef ecosystem resources and are important support for the marine life. However, the current condition of anthropogenic pressure continues to increase due to an increase in the number of people living on the coast and small islands. One of the pressures that are currently a big issue is the existence of marine debris, where studies related to its impact and distribution on coral reef ecosystems are still very few. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution and types of marine debris in the coral reef ecosystem on Nucamolas Island and its surroundings. Observations were made on 1-3 November 2021 at 12 stations. The research method used is the belt transect method with an area of 500 m2. Data collection was assisted by SCUBA diving equipment at a depth of 5-7 m on the coral reef flat. The results of this study found that the dominant marine debris in the coral reef ecosystem was organic waste (64.3%) and a group of macro debris (71,4%). Based on the type, the dominant species found were logs (37%), which physically damaged the coral, especially when currents and waves were moving. The distribution of marine debris at the study site was only found at 8 stations while the other 4 were not found.

Abstract

Increasing human activity in all aspects of life has contributed to the decline of mangrove forests, a multivariate analysis study on the structure of the mangrove community was conducted in July 2018 in North Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province with the objective of estimating or assessing the condition of the mangrove community structure. Data on the condition of mangrove vegetation was collected in six observations using line transects and plots measuring 10 x 10 m. Mangrove diversity was analyzed using the Shannon-Weaver and Simpson indexes, and variations in mangrove community the structure was analyzed using clusters, non-metric MDS, ANOSIM, and SIMPER. The study discovered 12 mangrove species in North Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province, which was classified into 6 families based on diversity analysis (H') Shannon Weaver indexes ranging from 01.34 to 01.72 and Simpson indexes ranging from 02.43 to 02.81. Furthermore, the results of the mangrove diversity analysis using multivariate clusters and non-metric MDS were divided into four groups, and while the cluster analysis based on the value of the mangrove density had a similarity of 60%, the variation in the significance of mangrove density was significantly different (R = 0.689, p = 0.000), and the mangrove species that compose varies between stations. Moreover, the trunk diameter of mangrove vegetation in North Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province is dominated by mangrove stands with a trunk diameter of 01.00 - 20.00 cm, with the mangrove vegetation that grows and develops at Stations 2 and 6 being relatively younger than the other stations. Stations 3 and 4 are considered more mature in terms of growth and development.  Peningkatan aktivitas manusia di segala setor kehidupan telah mendorong penurunan hutan mangrove, sehingga kajian analisis multivariat pada struktur komunitas mangrove di Kecamatan Rupat Utara Kabupaten Bengkalis Provinsi Riau telah dilakukan pada bulan Juli 2018 dengan tujuan untuk mengestimasi atau menilai kondisi struktur komunitas mangrovenya. Data kondisi vegetasi mangrove dikumpulkan pada enam stasiun pengamatan dengan membuat transek garis dan plot yang berukuran 10 x 10 m, kemudian keanekaragaman mangrovenya dianalisis menggunakan indeks Shannon-Weaver dan Simpson, sedangkan variasi struktur komunitas mangrovenya dianalisis berdasarkan cluster, non-metric MDS, ANOSIM dan SIMPER. Hasil kajian menemukan 12 spesies mangrove di Kecamatan Rupat Utara Kabupaten Bengkalis Provinsi Riau yang tergolong ke dalam 6 famili dengan analisis keanekaragaman (H’) indeks Shannon Weaver berkisar antara 01.34 – 01.72 dan indeks Simpson berkisar antara 02.43–02.81, kemudian hasil analisis keanekaragaman mangrovenya dengan multivariat cluster dan non-metric MDS terbagi atas empat kelompok, sedangkan analisis cluster berdasarkan nilai kerapatan mangrovenya memiliki kemiripan ± 60%, variasi signifikansi kerapatan mangrovenya berbeda nyata (R = 0.689, p = 0.000) serta spesies mangrove penyusun antar stasiun pengamatannya bervariasi. Selain itu, diameter batang vegetasi mangrove di Kecamatan Rupat Utara Kabupaten Bengkalis Provinsi Riau didominasi oleh tegakan mangrove berdiameter batang 01.00 – 20.00 cm, dimana vegetasi mangrove yang tumbuh dan berkembang di Stasiun 2 maupun 6 tergolong lebih muda dibandingkan stasiun yang lainnya, sedangkan vegetasi mangrove yang tumbuh dan berkembang di Stasiun 3 maupun 4 tergolong lebih matang.

Abstract

The Sawu Sea is an important habitat for dolphins, dugongs, manta rays and turtles. Sabu Island is one of the locations included in the Sawu Marine National Park area with considerable seagrass potential. The purpose of this study was to determine the health condition and community structure of seagrass on Sabu Island. This study used line transect, square transect, and random transect methods. The results of observations found 8 species, the most common types of seagrass were Thalassia hemprichii, Cymodocea rotundata, Halodule uninervis, Halophila ovalis, and Syringodium isoetifolium. A type of seagrass that is rarely found is Cymodocea serrulate which is only found in Loborai. The highest species density at Bodae station is Halodule unservices, and the lowest at Bodae station is Enhalus acoroides. The diversity index of seagrass species at the three stations is included in the low species diversity category. Seagrass species uniformity index is included in the medium community category. The dominance index of seagrass species at 3 stations is in the low dominance category. The highest coverage was Halodule uninervis with a value of 42.74% and the lowest was Enhalus acoroides with a value of 0.69%. The extent of seagrass cover at each of the Bodae, Laborai, and Keliha locations is 69.09%, 62%, and 66%, respectively. The highest Importance Value Index was found in Halodule uniservis, namely 138.00%, 30.55%, 96.80%, and the lowest was in Cymodocea serrulate. Overall the health condition of the seagrass beds at the observation location is included in the healthy category.
