Abstract

Learning is a process of interaction between students and educators and learning resources in a learning environment. Teachers should always carry out self-development so that they always perform optimally in providing knowledge and being facilitators for students. The implications of teacher professional development relate to the quality of education. Professional development of teachers is very important to improve the quality of schools, the way teachers teach, and student achievement. Teachers participate in several types of professional development, including activities to improve knowledge, skills and attitudes. Practical learning is an activity that is closely related to teacher professionalism, carried out with the aim of getting the opportunity to test and apply theory using laboratory facilities/outside the laboratory. Practical learning is described as an activity that invites students' positive attitudes from the conditioning created by the teacher

Abstract

One of the exciting topics in the socio-scientific issue is cloning. This issue is seen as a debatable issue in religion and science. In the practice of science learning in class, Biology teachers are required to be able to present this topic proportionally. This research aims to study how the arguments of Biology teachers in Islamic organization-based senior high schools in Indonesia face the cloning issue of sacrificed animals. This research was conducted in three Islamic organization-based senior high schools. This research uses the qualitative method by observation process on the learning of cloning topic in the class, questionnaire, and an in-depth interview with Biology teachers of XII grade from the three different schools in Banten Province, Indonesia. Results of the research show that related to the cloning issue of sacrifice (Qurban) animals is not only related to the religious aspect; there is the existence of specific argumentation patterns in the mind of the teachers. The designs are presented in the frameworks of economic (Organization A), social humanity (Organization B), and knowledge (Organization C). These three frameworks of organization give the primary colors for each teacher's argumentation. Thus, further studies must explore the effects of Islamic organizations on the arguments and the practice of cloning topic teaching at Islamic organization-based senior high schools.

Abstract

Abstract

Genetics is a part of biological science that contains topics such as genetic structure, protein synthesis, cell division, and inheritance of traits. Genetics is one of the most commonly found misconceptions and difficulties in learning this material due to its complex, abstract and rapid development. To overcome these problems, it is necessary to analyse TPACK and analyse various learning strategies used in teaching genetics so that it can be taken into consideration for teachers in teaching genetics in the classroom. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by collecting relevant research in the form of national and international articles available on various websites. From the results of the research, it was found that teachers have applied a variety of models, methods, and media in learning genetics. The success in this learning process certainly depends on the teacher's TPACK analysis skills so that the teacher not only pays attention to the content but also can adjust it to the needs of students.

Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is crucial for equipping learners with the skills and knowledge needed to address global sustainability challenges. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of ESD-based teaching materials across various educational levels. Utilizing databases such as Google Scholar, SINTA, and Scopus, the study reviews articles focusing on the integration of ESD in formal education. The findings indicate that ESD-based materials significantly enhance students' critical thinking skills, sustainability awareness, and problem-solving abilities. These materials are deemed valid and practical by both experts and students, and they effectively facilitate the understanding and application of scientific principles to real-world problems. The study underscores the importance of incorporating ESD into educational curricula to foster a generation equipped to tackle environmental and societal challenges. Additionally, the use of digital tools and e-platforms proves effective in promoting sustainability education. Overall, the integration of ESD in education is vital for promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of education across primary, secondary, and higher education levels, particularly in disaster-prone regions like Indonesia.

Abstract

Understanding students’ needs in science education is essential for improving teaching strategies and learning outcomes. This study investigates students’ preferences regarding teaching methods, learning materials, and supplementary education outside school. The study employed a descriptive research design involving 119 students and 28 teachers from seven randomly selected schools in Ciamis. Participants had prior experience with online learning. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews and analyzed quantitatively using percentage-based analysis.Findings reveal that 95% of students enjoy learning science due to its real-life relevance. Approximately 79% favor practical-based learning methods, citing ease of understanding and increased engagement, while 21% reported disinterest or discomfort with practical activities. Face-to-face instruction was preferred by 88.2% of students for its interactive benefits, though 3.57% felt teachers did not sufficiently involve them, potentially limiting critical thinking development. Regarding learning materials, 79.8% of students confirmed material availability, preferring those that are visual, durable, and easy to understand. Only 7.6% of students pursued additional lessons, primarily to enhance comprehension or complete assignments. These findings highlight students' inclination toward interactive and visually supported science instruction. Barriers such as limited engagement and lack of exposure to practical learning should be addressed to foster a more effective educational experience.Identifying and addressing students’ preferences in science education can inform more effective instructional approaches and resource development.

Abstract

Education in the era of digital technology has become a challenge for teachers and lecturers in how this technology can develop comprehensive knowledge and global insight. The purpose of this study is to improve learning achievement through the cognitive process of students in cell metabolism lectures using Interactive Digital Teaching Material (IDTM). The study involved 40 Biology Education students who were taking the third semester at one of the Private Universities in Bandung, West Java. The implementation of lectures and instruments to measure students' cognitive processes is based on the framework of the 1992 Marzano Learning Dimension. The results of the analysis showed that the N-gain value of Acquire and Integrate Knowledge and Extend and Refine Knowledge obtained a percentage of (28%-26%) on low criteria. While Using knowledge with a percentage of N-gain value (32%) on medium criteria. These results illustrate that IDTM facilitates students to train their cognitive processes toward better learning achievement
