Abstract

Abnormal bowel movements more than three times a day with concentrations of watery stools with or without blood or mucus due to inflammatory processes in the stomach or intestines. Purpose: Knowing environmental sanitation with the incidence of diarrhea in the elderly. Method: The research design used was an analytic survey using a cross sectional study, the population in this study was the elderly, a sample of 30 respondents. Results: The statistical test shows that the chi square test for clean water supply has a value of ? = 0.045, family latrines ? = 0.045, household waste management ?=0.045, and SPAL ?=0.049. Conclusion: That there is a relationship between clean water supply, use of family latrines, household waste management, and SPAL with the incidence of diarrhea in the elderly. Water is very important for human life. Efforts can be made to improve the provision of clean water, provision of latrines, management of solid waste, management of liquid waste, and efforts to improve environmental sanitation programs.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among migrant students represents a complex public health issue that reflects an inconsistency between academic status and lifestyle choices, exacerbated by urban socio-spatial transitional stress. This study aims to contextually analyze the socio-environmental influences on the smoking behavior of migrant students in male dormitories through a multidimensional ecological approach. Employing a qualitative case study design, primary data were gathered through semi-structured in-depth interviews with three informants (comprising one primary informant and two supporting informants), and direct observation on the dormitory front porch, subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicate that smoking initiation is triggered by academic stress associated with the undergraduate thesis as a predisposing factor, reinforced by the transmission of domestic habitus through visual modeling of the actively smoking father as a reinforcing factor, and facilitated by the social territorialization of the dormitory front porch as a permissive smoking zone due to indoor physical restriction policies as an enabling factor. This study concludes that the smoking behavior of migrant students is systemically perpetuated by the conditioning of behavioral architecture and a spatial regulatory vacuum from the regional government of origin as the asset owner. An urgent policy implication is to formulate formal, legally binding Smoke-Free Area (Kawasan Tanpa Rokok/KTR) regulations for official housing contracts and to establish integrated smoking cessation support services within the dormitory.

Abstract

Knowledge directly affects a person; attitudes arise due to the presence of knowledge from the individual. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that causes death. Tuberculosis is transmitted through the air and is influenced by risk factors that play a role in transmission, such as people's attitudes, knowledge, and behaviour. This study aims to determine the influence of knowledge and community attitudes in preventing tuberculosis. The research design uses a descriptive survey with an observational approach. Accidental sampling method with a total of 52 respondents. Research instruments using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis with multivariate linear regression test. The results of the statistical knowledge test with a p-value: of 0.811, an attitude of 0.599 and a multivariate logistic regression test showed that among the variables of understanding and attitude, the knowledge variable was more significantly related to efforts to prevent tuberculosis, as evidenced by the sig value. P value: 0.997 and Exp (B) 2.256. It can be concluded that the attitude and towards tuberculosis prevention efforts, but knowledge has partial value to Tubercollusis prevention efforts. Suggestions need to be made to educate them massively and continuously about tuberculosis, which are main causes, ways of transmission, and prevention.

Abstract

Abstract: Hypertension is a medical condition characterized by an increase in blood pressure above normal limits in the arteries. The elderly are one of the age groups that are prone to hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine the determinants of hypertension in the elderly. The study design used in this study was cross-sectional. The study was conducted from April to June 2025 at the Pekauman Community Health Center. The study population consisted of all male individuals aged 36-≥65 years with hypertension who came to the health center for treatment. The sample consisted of 75 respondents. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a research questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. The results showed a relationship between smoking behavior (p value: 0.000) and no relationship between stress (p value: 0.067) and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly. It is recommended that the elderly reduce their smoking frequency and control their thoughts to avoid stress that can affect their health, especially an increase in blood pressure. Keywords: Elderly, Hypertension, Smoking Behavior.

Abstract

General Background: Drug abuse is a multidimensional public policy problem requiring coordinated preventive action across governmental institutions and community stakeholders. Specific Background: Kelurahan Tenun, Samarinda, implemented the Drug-Free Village Program and community-based interventions involving the subdistrict government, Samarinda National Narcotics Board, anti-drug volunteers, community organizations, and Universitas Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda. Knowledge Gap: Prior collaborative governance research has largely emphasized formal interorganizational relations, providing limited empirical explanation of community actors’ contributions to decreasing reported cases at the subdistrict level. Aims: This qualitative case study analyzed stakeholder collaboration, institutional roles, and supporting and constraining factors using interviews, observations, document analysis, the Miles–Huberman–Saldaña interactive model, and the Ansell–Gash framework. Results: Multi-stakeholder coordination strengthened education, early detection, community participation, and preventive interventions, while reported cases decreased between 2024 and 2026. Volunteers served as intermediaries between residents and formal institutions, compensating for limited governmental enforcement authority. Nevertheless, low awareness, reporting fears, social stigma, and resource constraints continued to restrict early intervention and rehabilitation. Novelty: The study positions community volunteers and local social capital as central mechanisms connecting formal institutional coordination with neighborhood-level prevention. Implications: Sustained engagement, clearer role allocation, stronger volunteer capacity, and stigma-sensitive reporting mechanisms are required to maintain prevention outcomes and reinforce community resilience. Highlights: Reported incidents decreased between 2024 and 2026 under coordinated local prevention. Volunteer networks connected residents with institutions despite limited subdistrict authority. Stigma, reporting fears, and resource shortages constrained early detection and rehabilitation. Keywords: Collaborative Governance, Drug Abuse Cases, Drug Prevention, Community Participation, National Narcotics Board.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic and progressive noncommunicable disease that poses a public health problem in many countries. It is often referred to as a “silent killer” because the disease progresses slowly and often does not present with specific symptoms in its early stages. The objective of this study was to identify risk factors for diabetes mellitus among individuals of working age. A case-control study design was used. The study was conducted at the Tawaeli Community Health Center in September 2026. The study sample consisted of 20 cases and 20 controls. Purposive sampling was used. A research questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. The results showed an association between dietary patterns (p-value: 0.025) and no association between the habit of drinking coffee or tea (p-value: 0.057) and the incidence of diabetes mellitus among individuals of working age. It is recommended that patients with type II diabetes mellitus control their body weight, manage their diet, engage in regular physical activity, and monitor their blood sugar levels to minimize the risk of type II diabetes. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Coffee Consumption Habits, Dietary Patterns
