Abstract

Research on visitors’ landscape preferences in a botanical garden is useful for understanding what visitors see while they visit the site. Analyzing visitors’ preference by using GPS tracking data and Visitors’-Employed Photography (VEP) is one of approach that successfully implemented in some studies. GPS loggers and visitors’ photos were used in this study to identify and locate features considered impressive by visitors. This research involved 35 normal visitors of Bogor Botanical Garden (BBG) as respondents, who were asked to capture impressive landscape features while visiting the BBG. Each respondent used their own smartphone or camera to take photographs and recorded their actual positions using a GPS logger.  The data of GPS tracking and geo-tagged photos were exported into ArcGIS. The 20 by 20 meters square cell were joined with points' data to calculate density of tracking points and photos points. A cell was categorized as hotspots if the number of points more than 2.5 times of standard deviation. The results show that respondents were concentrated on several geographic locations within the BBG; the most-photographed features were water, structures, and plants. Interestingly, the most-photographed plants were those arranged for recreational (rather than botanical or educational) purposes, suggesting new considerations for managers of botanical gardens.

Abstract

Landscape design of Wibawa Mukti Stadium based on user's perception. High population growth and the development of industrial areas in the Bekasi Regency pose threats to green open space in urban areas. One of the public green open spaces in the Bekasi Regency is the Wibawa Mukti Stadium. Wibawa Mukti Stadium is a sports stadium area that has a function of public green open space. The stadium does not yet have a functional integration between the landscape and buildings in the stadium area. This study aims to produce design works that provide integrated and functional design proposals for the Wibawa Mukti Stadium. The proposed design of this research requires site user perception data that affect the site's sustainability. The research method is qualitative and quantitative methods with data in public perception data related to the ideal sports stadium. Data were taken in social data using interview and questionnaire methods and biophysical data using survey methods. This study's results are in the form of a landscape design of the Wibawa Mukti Stadium area that meets the community's preferences and enhances people's perception of the Wibawa Mukti Stadium. The Wibawa Mukti Stadium landscape can optimally become a green open space for the community by applying the needs of space, facilities, and utilities to the site on the design concept (the concept of space, facilities, and connectedness) according to the needs of the community.

Abstract

This study focuses on alun-alun, the open spaces in Indonesia that have a long cultural history. Alun-alun mostly located in the center of cities; they influence the pattern of cities and become a mental map for inhabitants. In this study, we investigated the distribution of alun-alun throughout Java Island. The research consisted of three parts. First, we identified Alun-alun from the colonial era using the old maps from Leiden University There were 15 locations of alun-alun in 13 cities identified from the old maps with characteristics as follows; 1) rectangular land, 2) located adjacent to the city mosque, and 3) located adjacent to the Regent’s office or Palace. In the second part, from those definitions, we confirmed 90 locations of alun-alun in 87 cities that have existed from the colonial period to the present across Java Island. The third part, we clarified the current province of alun-alun from two perspectives: area and spatial composition. We found that the present alun-alun show regional tendencies. Alun-alun in cities of Banten and West Java province was mostly in a small-scale area without Ficus benjamina trees. These points overlap with features described in the colonial era. Alun-alun in cities of Central Java and Yogyakarta province was relatively in a large-scale area and characterized by Ficus benjaminaas the main tree. Alun-alun in cities of East Java province was also in a large-scale area, but space mostly divided by planted areas, open area, structures, and others.

Abstract

The Batam Botanic Gardens (Kerabat) is a form of green open space in Batam City aimed at plant conservation activities, research, education, tourism and environmental services. The development of Kerabat until the end of 2018 has only reached around 35% and in 2019 the physical construction has been suspended. Before continuing the development so that the results are in line with expectations that serve as a place for plant conservation, research, community education, and tourism are needed to evaluate the Kerabat landscape. This study aimed to evaluate the Kerabat landscape that had been built based on the preferences and perceptions of the people in Batam City by comparing photos of Kerabat with other botanical garden photos. The results showed the Kerabat landscape based on the preferences and perceptions of the people in Batam City still did not show the character of the botanical garden landscape. Based on the analysis of the landscape preferences of the botanical garden from the photos chosen, the botanical garden character must have a landscape character that is beauty, green, beautiful, shady, organized, neat, comfortable for visitors and has good supporting facilities. Respondents preferences regarding the function of Kerabat are more for the conservation of plants and tourist attractions.

Abstract

Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) IPB organizes a Lecturers Community Service Program, as an innovation of lecturers community service by facilitating lecturers to several villages in Bogor and outside of Bogor to directly interact and provide solutions for the community. The purpose of these activities is to enhance the implementation of science and technology from the university for society welfare. One of the villages partners in this program is Cihideung Udik Village with prominent agricultural potential. More than 60% of the land is used for agriculture. Yet, until now the community still face agriculture problems such as decreasing agricultural land area due to changes into residential house. This condition triggers a decrease in the availability of ground water, and cultivation type or pattern change. Previously the community cultivate paddy, but now the community shifts to plant secondary crops especially corn. Not only that, various complex problems in Cihideung Udik require innovative solution available at universities such as IPB University. Lecturer community service at Cihideung Udik was carried out through the socialization of necessary materials viz., future skills motivation, family financial planning, water saving irrigation, water saving cultivation, agrosilvofarmaka, mapping of village potential and marketing. This activity preceived to be useful and any material delivered by the lecturer in general, were needed by the community. Although there was a material that need to be evaluated in order to increase public knowledge. Therefore, the Lecturer Community Service Program have to evaluate and improve their system in responding to community problems and also continuously improve community welfare.

Abstract

Indonesia has a wealth of natural resources, tourism and other potential that can be developed, but rivers are often overlooked. The development of the river as a tourist area is still limited to rafting, canoeing and fishing. Tourism by going along the river using a boat or boat is still not worked seriously. Kali Banger River is one of the cleanest rivers that has not been contaminated with waste so that it is used as a source of irrigation by the people of Kali Baros Village for their rice fields. But unfortunately, the development of river tourism is still constrained in several ways, namely the pile of garbage on the side of the river road and the homeless people living in Tahura. The purpose of the "Baros Kali" River Tourism Planning Program is to introduce the concept of tourism that utilizes the condition of the Banger River and the Great Forest Park (Tahura) to the visitors. The method used is a field inventory, analysis of potential and constraints with the FGD, determining the design concept and its development, and preparing the design. The result of this plan is the condition of the river and its surroundings is still fairly good, only at some point there is a pile of garbage. In addition, there are still many homeless people who live in Tahura. Before realizing the plans that have been prepared, the community needs to work together to resolve obstacles in the development of tourist areas. Abstract

The increasing urban densities go parallel with the rising demand for urban green and open spaces. As one of the environmental parks, Taman Bendi in Jakarta has its green open space, which is currently provided with inadequate supporting facilities and, therefore, rarely used. This study proposes a landscape design for Bendi Park that provides public space for sports and play-related activities for the Kebayoran Lama District and its surroundings. This study uses both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data collection was carried out by conducting an online survey to study relevant community preferences, public needs, and site observation. The outputs of this research are presented in the forms of the site plan, landscape plan, elevation, section, and three-dimensional drawings. To increase public use, this study proposes that the quality of Bendi Park’s design can be obtained metaphorically by adopting the shape of bendi (horse-carriage). Regarding facilities provision, this design should be completed with playing areas, seats, jogging paths, sports facilities, signboards, directions, pedestrian bridges, animal-inviting vegetation, and vegetative barriers. Keywords: park; Bendi park; green open space; landscape; design; sports; play Abstrak Bertambahnya jumlah penduduk dengan padatnya bangunan di perkotaan menyebabkan tingginya kebutuhan ruang terbuka hijau. Abstract

The Labuhanbatu Selatan city (KLS) is a newly expanded city established in 2008. The city is currently still in the development stage and has overcome the clearing of land for settlements, plantations, and government offices. Besides the infrastructure, the city also needs a public green open space that can balance the ecosystem and human needs. The city government office is an area that can be optimized as a city park. This study aims to create a design concept and design the landscape of the KLS government office. This research was conducted using a descriptive method through a field survey and questionnaires distribution, which was done in four stages: preparation stage, data collection, data processing (concept, analysis, and synthesis), and design. The results show that KLS landscape can be improved by adding trees, shrubs, lawns, retention ponds, plazas, and benches to conserve ecology and human amenity.
