Abstract

Abstract

The stigma against female inmates presents a significant challenge to their social and economic reintegration post-incarceration. This study explores the empowerment of female inmates at the Pontianak Correctional Facility through e-business training as a means of enhancing their economic independence. The research employs a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, involving direct engagement with inmates to assess their needs, develop training modules, and evaluate the program’s effectiveness. The training covers fundamental e-business concepts, digital marketing strategies, financial management, and online store operations. Findings indicate that the program successfully improved participants’ digital literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and confidence in starting online businesses. Furthermore, the training contributed to reducing recidivism risks by equipping inmates with sustainable income-generating skills. Challenges such as limited access to technology and post-release business continuity were identified, emphasizing the need for continued mentorship and institutional support. This study highlights the potential of digital entrepreneurship as a reintegration strategy, advocating for broader implementation in correctional facilities.

Abstract

This study examines the historical spread of Islam within the Mempawah Kingdom, focusing on the interplay between religion and culture during the reign of Opu Daeng Manambon (1741–1761). Specifically, it seeks to elucidate the processes of integrating religion and culture, the implementation of daʿwah strategies in the propagation of Islam, and the respective roles of the umarāʾ and ʿulamāʾ during this period. Employing qualitative research methods grounded in a historical approach, the study utilizes heuristic techniques, including criticism, synthesis, and historiography, applied to historical materials from West Kalimantan, with particular emphasis on the Mempawah Kingdom. The findings reveal that Islamization under Opu Daeng Manambon was not merely a peaceful cultural diffusion but rather a politically structured and culturally negotiated transformation. This process was shaped through interactions among royal authorities, networks of ʿulamāʾ, trade relations, and local socio-cultural dynamics. The study further demonstrates that Islamization developed through a hybrid daʿwah model that integrated political influence, cultural adaptation, and dialogical engagement, reflecting a collaborative power dynamic between rulers and ʿulamāʾ within a multicultural society. Ultimately, this study contributes to ongoing discussions on the processes of Islamization in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

Abstract: Studies on the history of Malay kingdoms in West Kalimantan have largely focused on male rulers, leaving female leadership relatively underexplored. This study examines the leadership of Ratu Mas Jaintan in the Sukadana–Landak Kingdom from a socio-economic historical perspective. The research employs a historical method with an interdisciplinary approach integrating social and economic analysis. Data were collected from manuscripts, archival documents, artifacts, oral traditions, and previous studies, supported by field research and analyzed through historical criticism and comparative analysis. The findings show that Ratu Mas Jaintan played a significant role in shaping the socio-economic life of the kingdom by promoting open trade, regulating the use of natural resources such as diamonds and gold, and supporting agricultural activities. These policies strengthened regional trade networks while maintaining social stability and cultural continuity. This study contributes to the historiography of Southeast Asian history by highlighting the strategic role of female leadership in managing economic networks and political authority in Malay kingdoms. It also provides broader implications for understanding gender and power relations in historical governance and the importance of female leadership in socio-economic development in early Southeast Asian societies.
