Abstract

Students' low learning outcomes in science are often associated with the use of monotonous instructional models, limited learning media, and insufficient student engagement, which reduce students' understanding of scientific concepts. The Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) learning model, supported by animated videos, offers a student-centered instructional approach that may enhance learning outcomes. This study aimed to examine the effect of the SSCS learning model assisted by animated videos on junior high school students' learning outcomes in the topic of the human excretory system. A quasi-experimental research design employing a nonequivalent control group design was used. The participants were selected through purposive sampling, with one class assigned as the experimental group and another as the control group. Data were collected using a validated multiple-choice test administered as both a pretest and a posttest. The data were analyzed using an independent-samples t-test. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a higher mean posttest score (84.50) than the control group (63.00). Furthermore, the hypothesis test revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.019 < 0.05), indicating that the SSCS learning model assisted by animated videos significantly improved students' learning outcomes. Therefore, integrating the SSCS learning model with animated video media can be considered an effective instructional strategy for improving junior high school students' science learning outcomes.

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah organik dan konservasi air masih menjadi persoalan utama di kawasan ekowisata pesisir, terutama pada wilayah dengan daya dukung lingkungan yang terbatas. Desa Apar, Kota Pariaman, sebagai kawasan ekowisata berbasis pesisir dan mangrove, menghadapi permasalahan meningkatnya timbulan sampah organik dari aktivitas rumah tangga dan wisata, serta rendahnya kemampuan tanah dalam meresapkan air yang berpotensi menimbulkan genangan dan degradasi lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memperkuat pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui penerapan teknologi lubang resapan biopori sebagai solusi pengelolaan sampah organik dan konservasi air tanah. Mitra pengabdian meliputi masyarakat Desa Apar, perangkat desa, dan pelaku ekowisata yang terlibat aktif dalam seluruh tahapan kegiatan. Metode pengabdian dilaksanakan melalui sosialisasi lingkungan, pelatihan teknis pembuatan dan pemanfaatan biopori, penerapan teknologi di lokasi strategis, serta pendampingan dan evaluasi berkelanjutan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan meningkatnya pengetahuan, kesadaran, dan partisipasi masyarakat dalam pengelolaan lingkungan, berkurangnya pembuangan sampah organik ke lingkungan, serta terbentuknya kompos awal dari biopori yang dimanfaatkan untuk tanaman sekitar. Selain itu, biopori mampu meningkatkan daya resap tanah dan mengurangi genangan air di kawasan ekowisata. Hasil pengabdian ini menegaskan bahwa teknologi biopori yang diintegrasikan dengan pendekatan pemberdayaan masyarakat efektif mendukung pengelolaan lingkungan pesisir secara berkelanjutan dan berpotensi direplikasi pada kawasan ekowisata lainnya.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in science subjects, which were caused by the difficulty of understanding abstract concepts when using only lecture methods or conventional learning media. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Culturally Responsive Transformative Teaching model on the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMPN 2 Pariaman. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design. The research population consists of all eighth-grade students, with the sample comprising class VIII.1 as the experimental class and VIII.2 as the control class, selected using purposive sampling. The instruments used were multiple-choice questions and student response questionnaires. The questionnaire results showed that students' responses to the use of the Culturally Responsive Transformative Teaching model were very positive, with 98% stating that it was easy to understand. Based on the results of the hypothesis test using the t-test, a significant difference was found between the learning outcomes of students who used the Culturally Responsive Transformative Teaching model and those who did not. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Culturally Responsive Transformative Teaching model has a positive effect on students' learning outcomes in science.

Abstract

Science education covers material related to the natural world, which consists of various scientific concepts that have been agreed upon by experts. If the diversity of concepts studied by students is not managed and directed appropriately by teachers, this has the potential to cause errors in understanding the correct concepts. To measure the level of students' understanding of concepts after studying a subject, teachers need to identify that understanding. This study aims to analyze students' misconceptions about vibration, waves, and light. The research method used is descriptive with a quantitative approach. The research population consists of 9th grade students in junior high school. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling with the criteria of public schools, accredited A, and the same teacher in each school; based on these criteria, the research sample consisted of 85 students. The research data was collected through 17 items of the Four-Level Test, which consisted of four levels: multiple-choice questions, confidence in answers, reasons for answers, and confidence in reasons for answers. The average misunderstanding experienced by students based on the learning objectives in the material on vibrations, waves, and light was classified as low, namely 8%. The highest misconception was found in the learning objective of applying the concept of vibration in everyday life, which was 47%. The lowest percentage of misconception, 14%, was found in the learning objective of classifying examples of waves. The results of this study can be used as a basis for educators to design learning that emphasizes strengthening conceptual understanding and clarifying misconceptions in the material on vibrations, waves, and light.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential competencies that need to be enhanced in science learning. This study aims to determine the effect of the Guided Discovery Learning model assisted by Question Cards on students’ critical thinking skills. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control control group design. This sample was selected through purposive sampling. The results showed that the implementation percentage was 83% for teacher and 78% for students. In addition, the results of the student response to the implemented learning of 79,41%, suggesting a positive response to the calculated t-value was greater than t-table value (3.65>1.99. These results indicate that is rejected and is accepted, meaning that the Guided Discovery Learning model assisted by Question Cards has a significant effect on students’critical thinking skills at SMP Negeri 5 Padang.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of learning, analyze its effect, and explore students’ responses to the application of the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model assisted by Mind Mapping in improving the problem-solving skills of seventh-grade students at SMPN 7 Padang.This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a Non-equivalent Control Group Design model. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, with class VII.6 as the experimental group and class VII.8 as the control group, each consisting of 32 students. The research instruments included essay tests on problem-solving skills, observation sheets on the implementation of learning, and student response questionnaires. The findings showed that the implementation of learning by the teacher reached an average of 98% and by students 88%, both categorized as very good. Hypothesis testing using a parametric t-test indicated that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous, with a result of t-count = 5.88 > t-table = 1.99, so H1 was accepted. This indicates that the CPS model assisted by Mind Mapping has a significant effect on problem-solving skills. Students’ responses were categorized as very positive, with an average percentage of 82.45%.It can be concluded that the Creative Problem Solving learning model assisted by Mind Mapping has a positive and significant effect on the problem-solving skills of seventh-grade students at SMPN 7 Padang.
