Abstract

Humerus fracture is a quite common fracture. Fracture of diaphyseal humerus is 1,2 % of all cases of fracture. The treatment of humeral shaft fracture can use 2 different approaches, operative treatment and conservative treatment. This research aimed to compare the complication of malunion in patients with operative and conservative treatment. This was an observational analytic study on patients at the Bina Sehat Hospital. Samples were divided into 2 groups, operative and non-operative. Both groups were examined by measuring the lenght of the humerus after fracture comparing with its contralateral, the ability of the internal rotation, the ability of the external rotation, and angulation inspection. Statistical test showed a difference humerus shortening between 2 groups reached 0.873 cm. The difference between 2 groups on the ability of internal rotation reached 11.4710. The difference between 2 groups on ability of external rotation reached 16.608o. And the result for angulation assessment also showed significant difference between 2 groups. In conclutson, there was a significant difference in complications of malunion between operative and non-operative groups.   Keywords: humerus fracture, operative treatment, non operative treatment, comparative malunion

Abstract

Caffeine in coffee is suspected to decrease the bone mineral density and increase the risk factor of osteoporosis, however the contents of coffee is not only caffeine. Considering the great number of people consuming coffee daily, therefore, the study is conducted to investigate the effect of robusta coffee consumption on the femoral bone strength in male wistar rats. Thirty male wistar rats were subjected for the study. They were divided into three groups, i.e control group (K) without robusta coffee consumption, treatment group 1 (P1) with robusta coffee consumption of 0,9 mg/gBW, and treatment group 2 (P2) with robusta coffee consumption of 2,7 mg/gBW. After 21 days, the rats were terminated and the right and the left femurs were collected for force bone test. The force bone test of P1 and P2 group demonstrated weaker bones than K group, and there was no difference effect of P1 group compared to P2 group on the femoral bone strength in male wistar rats. It can be concluded that robusta coffee consumption has negative effect on the bone strenght and hence causing bones more fragile, and there was no difference on effect of 0,9 mg/g BW compared to 2,7 mg/g BW.

Abstract

In sports, caffeine is oftenly consumed as a stimulant in intense exercise. Caffeine consists in black tea with the content is about one third to eighth compared to black coffee, The aim of this research was to find out the effect of black tea to VO2max and heart rate recovery time after treadmill exercise. There were 2 groups. Control group which consumed placebo and treatment group which consumed black tea. Both group performed Bruce Treadmill Test Protocol. The results showed that the mean value of VO2max were 32,525 for control group and 38,442 for treatment group. Data analysis using T-paired test showed that treatment group had significantly higher VO2max value than control group (p=0,0001). Heart rate change data showed that heart rate frequency in treatment group from every fixed time was higher than the control group The heart rate recovery time was 59 minutes for control group and 66 minutes for treatment group. In conclusion, consumption of black tea before exercise would increase VO2max value and extend the heart rate recovery time.   Keywords: Black tea, VO2max, heart rate recovery, Bruce treadmill test protocol
