Abstract

Background: Local wisdom is ideas in an area that are wise, valuable, and become a tradition and are followed by the people there. By integrating local wisdom in the learning process, it will provide more meaning and real experience to students that the surrounding environment contains local wisdom that must be preserved. This research aims to determine the level of knowledge of junior high school students around Rawa Pening lake regarding the local wisdom of Rawa Pening lake in relation to science learning materials. Method: The type of research used is quantitative descriptive research. The subjects of this research were class VIII junior high school students around Rawa Pening lake. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, tests and documentation. The instruments used were interview sheets and test questions. The data analysis used is by analyzing student test scores. The local wisdom found around Rawa Pening lake is the tradition and the use of natural resources. Result: Based on the results of the analysis of students' knowledge about the local wisdom of Rawa Pening lake, it was found that 83% (231 student) were in the "poor" category, 15% (41 student) were in the "sufficient" category, 3% (8 student) were in the "good" category, and no students were found who had knowledge in the "very good" category. Conclusion: Recommendations for learning strategies based on local wisdom can be carried out through project-based learning, folklore-based learning, and nature-based learning.

Abstract

The Classroom Action Research (CAR) training for Science and Biology teachers in Salatiga aims to enhance pedagogical competence through a research-based approach. The implemented activities adopted a collaborative-participatory model, involving eight teachers through three main stages: (1) a joint needs identification with the local teachers' working group (MGMP), (2) intensive training across four interactive sessions, and (3) continuous mentoring. The training methods combined the presentation of conceptual material (CAR framework, data collection techniques), hands-on proposal drafting practice, and simulations on using research tools like Mendeley for reference management. Evaluation results indicated positive outcomes, with 100% of participants rating the facilitators as highly competent and 87.5% stating the material was presented clearly. However, a need for deepening practical aspects was identified, as 12.5% of participants still experienced difficulties in application. Thematic analysis of the feedback revealed three main recommendations: (a) increasing the portion of case-based learning activities using real examples, (b) developing applied biology-based modules, and (c) integrating technology such as digital microscopy in advanced training. The program's success is reflected in 80% of participants' ability to design relevant CAR proposals during the training, and the establishment of an online learning community for post-activity mentoring. These findings emphasize the importance of a teacher training model that combines applicable theory, intensive mentoring, and technological support, particularly to bridge the gap between academic research and classroom practice.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the profile of critical thinking skills of Class VII middle school students on ecology and biodiversity material using quantitative descriptive research with data collection techniques using tests, analysis using a quantitative approach consisting of empirical validity, reliability, differentiation, level of difficulty and data analysis scores, and research design using pretest - posttest design, data collection techniques using critical thinking questionnaires, data analysis techniques by looking at interpretation results and N - Gain. The research results of students' critical thinking skills at the beginning of the test (pre-test) reached an average score of 47.49, while the average score of students at the end of learning (posttest) reached 64.09. Based on the interpretation results, it shows that the pre-test results are in the poor category with a total of 63 students (100%), while the post-test scores in the interpretation results show that there are 17 students (26.98%) in the sufficient category and 46 students (73.02%) in the insufficient category. So it can be said that there may be many factors that cause students to lack enthusiasm in science subjects on ecology and biodiversity, including the lack of variety in the methods used in teaching.
