Abstract

Background: The complexity of services that nurses must provide nowadays encourages nurses to develop their moral courage. A review of the literature reveals that no studies have been conducted to evaluate the association between clinical nurse tenure and their level of moral courage. Objectives: this study is to assess correlation between the tenure of nurses and the level of moral courage. Methods: analytic survey research at 5 hospitals in Makassar, including private and government hospitals with a total sample of 405 nurses. The sampling technique used multistage random sampling. The variables measured were tenure of nurses and the level of moral courage of nurses. The Professional Moral Courage Questionnaire is used for the variable moral courage (Cronbach 'alpha: 0.756). Data analysis using Mann Whitney test. Results: The majority of nurses with long and new tenure had moderate moral courage (new tenure 79 nurses; length tenure 238 nurses), and there was no significant difference in the moral courage level of nurses with long and new tenure (p=0.294). Conclusion: Considering the findings that nurse tenure has no effect on moral courage, nursing managers can consistently boost nurses' moral courage through external stimuli. A nurse who cannot face various ethical dilemmas in providing daily nursing care can result in moral distress.

Abstract

Background: Physiologically, DM patients' blood sugar control is affected by stress, but it can also interfere with their ability to regulate themselves in carrying out daily care. Objective: This study aims to identify and analyze available scientific evidence about the effect of Health Coaching (HC) in controlling blood sugar in type 2 DM patients. Method: This systematic review is based on the PRISMA checklist. Literature search via PuBMED, Science direct, google scholar, cochrane, and wiley. Structured research questions used the PICO electronic method (patient, intervention, comparison and outcome). Results: The number of respondents who suffered from type 2 DM was 6,169 with the longest treatment time of 3 years. There are 4 interventions found in controlling blood sugar in type 2 DM patients, namely HC using web-based coaching techniques, HC using a telephone, face-to-face HC using a smartphone, and HC using an application. cell phone called MDMA (diabetes management mobile app). Conclusion: Interventions that were found as HC techniques to control blood sugar in type 2 DM patients were Health coaching with web-based coaching techniques, HC conducted using the telephone, HC conducted face to face using a smartphone, and HC using a cellular mobile application called MDMA (application cellular diabetes management). However, several things that became the main limitations of this review of this study were the absence of a standard in determining the duration of HC interventions, so the duration of HC in each study varied and the longest duration was up to 3 years. Recommendation: Therefore, further research is needed regarding the standard of HC intervention in controlling blood sugar in diabetes mellitus patients.

Abstract

Background: The high rate of early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and teenage mothers increases the prevalence of emotional and mental disorders, depression, parenting stress, and child stunting. Parenting coaching is among the effective ways to overcome parenting stress and improve parents’ knowledge, skills, and behaviors, thereby avoiding child stunting. However, studies on parenting coaching are not widely conducted, particularly in Indonesia. Objective: This study aimed to present the current status of parenting stress among teenage mothers and assess whether parenting coaching effectively reduces parenting stress among teenage mothers. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used. The participants were randomly selected into two groups: the intervention group receiving parenting coaching intervention and the control group receiving standard education using a leaflet. Data were collected in June 2021 in Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Statistical Program for Social Science version 21 (Armonk, NY, USA) was employed for all statistical analyses. Results: The parenting coaching intervention had a significant effect on parenting stress (p <0.001), with significant positive changes in knowledge, attitude (p <0.001), behavior (p <0.001), self-efficacy (p <0.001), and maternal function (p <0.001). Additionally, a significant difference in the achievement of z-score values was observed between the intervention and control groups based on Body Weight/Age (BW/A) (p <0.001) and Body Length/Age (BL/A) (p <0.001). However, Body Weight/Body Length (BW/BL) did not show a significant difference in the achievement of z-score (p = 0.34) in the third month. Conclusion: Parenting coaching can reduce parenting stress among teenage mothers and improve their knowledge, attitudes, behavior, self-efficacy, and maternal function; hence, this intervention can be used as a reference in the nursing process to reduce parenting stress and prevent child stunting.

Abstract

Wound healing in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) presents a major clinical challenge, particularly due to alterations in body composition such as reduced muscle mass and increased fat mass. This systematic review aimed to synthesize current evidence regarding the impact of body composition on wound healing effectiveness in T2DM patients. Literature was retrieved from PubMed, ProQuest, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar, targeting observational and experimental studies published between 2015 and 2025. Keywords included "type 2 diabetes mellitus", "wound healing", "body composition", "sarcopenia", and "obesity". Articles were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Methodological quality was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) checklist. A total of seven eligible studies were included and analyzed narratively. The findings from the 4 articles analyzed showed that low muscle mass (sarcopenia) and high fat mass (obesity) were associated with delayed wound healing in T2DM patients. Some studies indicate that patients with better body composition balance, such as higher muscle mass index, experience faster wound healing. Heterogeneity in measurement methods and study populations limits the strength of these conclusions. This review supports the hypothesis that body composition significantly influences wound healing outcomes in T2DM. Muscle mass reduction may impair tissue repair by limiting perfusion and immune responses, while increased fat mass may contribute to chronic inflammation that hinders tissue regeneration. Further longitudinal research with standardized assessments is needed. Interventions that promote muscle mass gain and fat mass control may be essential components in wound management strategies for diabetic patients.
