Abstract

Libido can be measured by the length of time needed by the ram from teasing ewes to ejaculation. Low libido is one inefficient factor in reproductive process of sheep. The research was carried out to assess the application of laserpuncturetechnology for increasing libido of Garut rams. Results of the research showed that from three ejaculations observed, the ram which was treated with laserpuncture was more responsive in its libido than control. At the first ejaculation, the ram which was treated with laserpuncture needed 20.67 seconds and more responsive than control 35,40 seconds. At the second ejaculation, the laserpuncture treated needed 85 seconds to responsif than control 129,2 seconds. At the third ejaculation, the laserpuncture treated needed 198,6 seconds to responsif than control 209 seconds. In conclusion, laserpuncture at six acupoints in Garut rams can improve libido.

Abstract

The study was carried out to observe the influence of semen collectiontime toward the copulation behavior and the movement of massspermatozoa of garut rams. The semen of seven Garut rams wascollected twice a week. It indicates that the difference of semen collectiontime causes the difference of air temperature. The semen collected at6:00 am showed better mass sperm movement than at 12:00. Thesemen collected at 06:00 am; 9:00 am and 12.00 am did not show anyeffect toward the preejaculation copulation behavior. Otherwise thesemen collected at 06:00 am delivered longer intromisi period than at12:00 am.

Abstract

The research carried out to observe the effect of maltose addition on the quality of frozen semen of garut rams. Semen was collected once a week using artificial vagina from six mature garut rams. Semen was equilibrated at 5oC for four hours, frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen. The thawing was carried out at the temperature 30oC for 30 seconds. The result showed that percentages of viable sperm for addition of maltose 1,2 g / 100 ml extender (68,50 ± 0,84%) was significantly difference (P<0,05) than control (54,83 ± 1,94%) and addition of maltose 0,6 g / 100 ml extender (65,67 ± 1,03 %). The percentages of progressive motile sperm and percentages of plasma membrane for addition of maltose 1,2 g / 100 ml extender (53% and 64,67%) were significantly difference (P<0,05) than control (43% and 53,83%) but were not significantly different (P>0,05) from addition of maltose 0,6 g / 100 ml extender (50,83% and 64,67%)respectively. In conclusion, the addition of maltose 1,2 g / 100 ml extender is optimal dose to improve the quality of frozen semen of garut rams.

Abstract

The study was conducted to know the influence of a- tocoferrol additional into the egg yolk tris extender medium to the liquid semen quality of “Garut” lamb (Ovis aries). Parameter which had been evaluated i.e. percentages of progressive motile sperm, percentages of viable sperm and percentages of plasma membrane. On the 4 th day evaluation showed that the addition of a- tocoferrol with the dose 0,04 g/100 ml into the egg yolk tris extender produced the highest percentages ofprogressive motile sperm, percentages of viable sperm and percentages of plasma membrane ( 49,0 ± 6,5%; 68,6 ± 4,2% and 59,3 ± 6,5% ) but there were not significantly different from control ( 45,5 ± 5%; 66,0 ± 4,6% and 56,2 ± 5,7% )and the addition of a- tocoferrol with the dose 0,02 g/100 ml ( 49,0 ± 6,5%; 66,6 ± 4,0% and 59,3 ± 2,8% ) respectively. In conclusion, the addition of a-tocoferrol in the egg yolk tris extender medium no significant effect on the liquid semen quality.

Abstract

The research was carried out to assess the technology of laserpuncture for estrous synchronization of ewes in different phase reproduction. The results of the research showed that the treatment of laserpuncture at 17 reproduction accupoints during the luteal phase and at anytime perform 100% and 95% of oestrous, respectively. It indicates that the laserpunktur technology is capable to generates a synchronization of oestrus in ewes. There was no significant difference of oestrus response which observed from both of treatments at luteal phase or at any time. It is concluded that the laserpuncture technology is one of alternative technology for estrous synchronization beside hormone treatment.
