Abstract

Abstract

The lack of harmonization in halal tourism regulations in Indonesia, Pakistan, and Nigeria has led to differences in standards, weak legal certainty, and inconsistent services that hinder the development of halal destinations. This study aims to analyse and compare the regulatory frameworks of halal tourism in Indonesia, Pakistan, and Nigeria, highlighting the differences in legal systems, institutional capacity, and their implications for the consistency of services and the development of the halal tourism industry. This research employs a qualitative method with a literature study approach, examining laws, government policies, institutional documents, and academic literature related to halal regulations. Data were analysed using content analysis techniques and comparative analysis to identify patterns of similarities, differences, and regulatory effectiveness across the three countries. The results of the study indicate that Indonesia has a more standardised halal regulatory framework, established through formal institutions such as BPJPH and MUI. In contrast, Pakistan adopts a market-driven approach due to the absence of formal regulations governing the halal tourism sector. Nigeria has fragmented rules due to its federal structure and dual legal system, resulting in varying standards of halal service across regions. The findings of this literature show that the legal system and the governance capacity of each country greatly influence the effectiveness of regulations. This research provides an understanding of the relationship between legal configuration and the efficacy of halal governance, offering a basis for regulatory harmonisation that strengthens the competitiveness of halal destinations. This study makes a new contribution by presenting a comprehensive comparative legal analysis of halal tourism regulations in three countries with distinct legal system characteristics, which have not been extensively discussed in previous studies.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and the rapid use of e-commerce platforms have driven changes in consumption behavior, especially among Generation Z. One of the emerging phenomena is doom spending, which refers to consumption driven by emotional pressure or stress. This study aims to examine the effect of hedonic shopping motivation, social influence, and perceived ease of use of e-commerce platforms on impulsive buying among Generation Z. This research employed a quantitative method with a purposive sampling technique, involving 269 respondents. Data were analyzed using SEM-PLS with SmartPLS 3. The findings indicate that hedonic shopping motivation and social influence exert a positive and significant effect on impulsive buying, whereas perceived ease of use does not significantly affect impulsive buying behavior. These results highlight that emotional gratification and social pressures are the primary triggers of impulsive buying among Generation Z rather than the perceived simplicity of the platform. This study contributes to the growing discourse on digital consumer behavior by providing empirical evidence on the drivers of doom spending in the Indonesian Gen Z context, offering insights that can inform e-commerce platform strategies and consumer well-being interventions

Abstract

The background of this study is the demand of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 for Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), particularly critical thinking and logical argumentation among university students. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is recognized as effective in developing these skills; however, valid and comprehensive assessment instruments, especially in essay form, remain limited. This study aims to develop and examine the quality of an essay test instrument to measure students' critical thinking and logical argumentation skills within PBL in the Logic and Critical Thinking Methods course. The method employed was Research and Development (R&D), adapting a simplified Borg and Gall model, which included needs analysis, test blueprint design, item development, expert validation, empirical try-outs, and item quality analysis. The research subjects were 55 students in Surabaya. Expert validation using Aiken's V showed an average coefficient of 0.81, categorized as very high. Construct validity testing using item-total correlation confirmed that all items were valid, and reliability testing using Cronbach's Alpha yielded a coefficient of 0.768, indicating high reliability. Item quality analysis revealed that most items possessed moderate difficulty and high discrimination power. In conclusion, the developed instrument is valid, reliable, and suitable for use as a measurement tool for assessing students' critical thinking and logical argumentation abilities in a PBL context.
