Abstract

Abstract

Education is the main foundation in shaping the character and abilities of the younger generation. In Indonesia, the education curriculum continues to be adapted to current developments and local needs, including the introduction and preservation of local culture and wisdom through local content in elementary schools. Water hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes), although often considered a weed, has great potential as an educational medium. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods to explore the use of water hyacinth as an educational medium in local content learning at Krian 2 State Elementary School. Through data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, this research reveals that the use of water hyacinth as a material teaching successfully increases student engagement, environmental understanding, as well as practical skills and creativity. Students are involved in the process of collecting, processing and utilizing water hyacinth to make various craft products, which not only provides practical experience but also increases their environmental awareness. The results of the research show that the use of water hyacinth in local content learning has a positive impact on students' understanding of local wisdom and environmental conservation. Students learn the values of hard work, perseverance, responsibility, and cooperation through water hyacinth-based activities. This implementation is also relevant to the local content curriculum and can support community economic empowerment through the introduction of the concept of entrepreneurship. The conclusion of this research shows that water hyacinth has great potential as an educational medium, providing broad educational benefits, as well as forming students' characters who care about the environment and have an entrepreneurial spirit. Recommendations for further development include training and support for teachers, collaboration with local communities, and ongoing evaluation to ensure the success and sustainability of using water hyacinth as an educational medium.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the application of glocalization classes in literature learning, focusing on the analysis of local and glocal literary works by university students. In the context of globalization, glocalization classes integrate literary works from local and global cultures, providing a broader perspective in understanding universal values. This study used a qualitative research method with a case study design, involving students of the S1 Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah Lamongan University. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman analysis model. The results showed that students could identify similarities and differences between Timun Mas and Hansel and Gretel literary works, as well as understand the values of courage, ingenuity, and struggle against injustice in both stories. Glocalization learning helps students connect these values to their cultural context and encourages the application of positive values in daily life. This study concludes that glocalization classes are effective in enriching students' understanding of literature and values relevant to life challenges.

Abstract

This pre-study explores the reading interest of elementary school students and the potential integration of local wisdom into literacy practices. The background of this study stems from preliminary findings that reveal low reading interest among second-grade students in an elementary school. Most students prefer picture books and show limited engagement with traditional texts, especially when lacking visual appeal. Furthermore, observations and teacher interviews indicate that cultural elements such as local traditions and values—particularly from Madura—are rarely included in classroom reading materials. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, and teacher interviews. The results show that 70% of students read only when instructed, and over 80% express interest in books that include illustrations and culturally familiar content. Teachers acknowledge the need for relevant reading materials that combine engaging storytelling with the richness of local culture. They believe such materials can promote reading habits while strengthening students’ cultural identity. This study highlights a significant gap in culturally responsive reading materials for young learners. It suggests the importance of developing culturally integrated picture storybooks to enhance reading interest. Incorporating local wisdom into early literacy development can not only foster students’ engagement in reading but also preserve cultural heritage. The findings provide a basis for future development of reading materials rooted in local traditions and values.

Abstract

This research aims to develop and test the effectiveness of animated video media in improving early reading skills among first-grade elementary school students. The background of this research is based on the minimal use of engaging learning media, especially animation-based media, which affects students' low interest and reading abilities. The research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with a mixed methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative. The ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) was chosen to ensure that product development proceeds systematically and structured. The research subjects were 30 first-grade students from SDN Madiun Lor. The validation results show that the animation media received a score of 83.3% from media experts (very good category) and underwent revisions based on input from subject matter experts. The effectiveness test was conducted through pretest and posttest, which showed a 19% improvement in learning outcomes, indicating that the developed media is effective in enhancing early reading skills, particularly in the aspects of letter recognition, pronunciation, comprehension, and students' reading interest. Additionally, observations and interviews indicate that students are more enthusiastic and confident in learning using this media. This animation media is deemed suitable for implementation in early reading instruction in elementary schools. This study concludes that the development of animated video media can significantly improve the quality of early reading instruction and make a tangible contribution to the development of innovative learning media at the elementary education level.

Abstract

Vegetables are a source of nutrients that are important for body health and have a vital role in fulfilling daily nutritional needs. Based on data from Basic Health Research in 2018, children with the age group ranging from 5-9 years old have a proportion that consumes less vegetables and fruit, as much of 96.9%. From this data, only 3.1% consume more than 5 portions of vegetables a week. In fact, the Indonesian population is categorized as consuming enough vegetables and fruit if they consume at least 5 portions a week. Many factors cause this condition, one of them is a lack of knowledge about vegetables. Education on vegetable cultivation is a solution to this problem. This research is a type of qualitative research. The result of this research shows that education and practice of vegetables cultivation have positive values and perceptions for students. This directly contributes on increasing students' learning interest and motivation in honing their self-reliance and life skills.
