Abstract

In radiation utilization, the regulation should be applied to minimize radiation dose received by the officer in order not to exceed the provision of Dose Limit Value based on BAPETEN Regulation No. 4 of 2013 that the average of equivalent dose is ≤50 mSv/year and ≤20 mSv for five-year period. The purpose of this study was to analyze the external radiation dose received by each officer at Radiotherapy Installation RSUP dr.Hasan Sadikin Bandung based on the NBD that has been determined. The equivalent dose values were obtained from the Thermoluminisence Dosemeter (TLD) of each officer over a five-year period from 2012 to 2016 that had been read by using a TLD reader. Then the radiation exposure measured by using a surveymeter with a distance of 3 meters from each teleterapi aircraft with radioactive sources to predict the distance factor between officers and radiation sources. The results showed that teleterapi operators received the highest equivalent dose in a five-year period with a dose value of 0.206 mSv/year, then in 2013 the external radiation dose received by officers and medical physicists reached the highest value when compared to another officers, with the average value of equivalent dose was 0.085 mSv/year and 0.55 μSv/hour. If observed from the distance factor, in 2013 each officer tends to come near to the source of radiation at every working hour. All radiotherapy officers at RSUP dr.Hasan Sadikin Bandung from 2012 to 2016 received a safe radiation dose and not exceed the NBD determined by BAPETEN. Keywords: Dose Limit Value, External Radiation Dose, Equivalent Dose, Distance

Abstract

The effect of the variation of the air gap absorbed dose in electron beam irradiation has conducted. In the particular case of electron beam irradiation often can not use the SSD 100 cm due to the influence of the use of the applicator so that the patient's body should be granted an extension of the SSD or air gap at the irradiation. In this study the calculation of the effective SSD, absorbed dose, the air gap correction factor and verification of absorbed dose was performed using the inverse square law and the correction of the output electrons. The method utilized an inverse square law load value of each electron beam irradiation to determine the effective SSD, while the determination of absorbed dose and the air gap correction factor correction using electron output. The results of the calculation states that the effective SSD of 82,2 cm – 109 cm wide field size and is proportional to the electron energy. Absorbed dose and the air gap correction factor proportional to the field size and inversely proportional to the variation of the air gap while the value of the absorbed dose itself is varied between 64,80 cGy to 108,0 cGy as well as the value of the correction factor of the air gap is between 0,869 – 1,000. Correction dose verification of absorbed dose value is still below the value specified tolerances AAPM TG40 is equal to 99,10% - 103,0%. Variations of growing air gap causes the smaller absorbed dose. Keywords: air gap, effective SSD, air gap correction factor, dose normalization

Abstract

Radiation exposure in the therapy room with linac 6 MV devices has been conducted at Ken Saras hospital. The purpose of this research was to determine the radiation exposure in the therapy room to provide the information for radiation workers regarding the safe location in therapy room using isodose curve presentation and contour mapping of radiation exposure in the therapy room. The results of radiation exposure measurement were then used to calculate the radiation dose received by patients during therapy as patient information. The method used in this research was the direct measurement of radiation exposure in therapy room using survey meter with 130 cm height from the floor at some point with the addition of each 1 meter, field size is 40 cm x 40 cm, absorbed dose is 50 MU and variations of the gantry position, gantry 00, gantry 900 and gantry 2700.  The result of the measurement then used to create a contour using a software and then analysed to point the safe location through a mathematical calculation. The Values of radiation exposure in field size of 40 cm x 40 cm then converted to the value of radiation exposure in field size of 10 cm x 10 cm on a sample study case patient X by multiplying with the value of the inverse square. The converted value is then calculated into the radiation dose received by patients X during therapy. The results showed that the gantry 00 and gantry 2700 position, the safe location in therapy room for radiation worker is at the position (-5.5; -4) with a dose rate of 7.2 μSv / h and 9.6 μSv /h while at gantry 900  position  there is no safe area for radiation workers in the therapy room. The value of exposure radiation that received by the patient X in this research, that undergo once therapy with 4 times exposure at 4 variation gantry position at dose of 50 MU with  10 cm x 10 cm field size is 1196.9502 μSv or 1.197 mSv. Keywords:  radiation exposure, therapy rooms, isodose curve, safe area, patient radiation dose
