Abstract

Analysis of the radiation beam profile linear accelerator 6mV on the use of virtual wedge with gafchromic film done as a virtual wedge calibration on the linear accelerator . Virtual wedge calibration was originally done using ionization chamber detector, but its use is not efficient because for one-time calibration with an area of 10 x 10 cm2 field takes 10 times the exposure with the results of 10 data transform one dose profile curve . It takes a dosimeter that can capture the entire virtual dose results wedge with one exposure is gafchromic films with an area that can be customized . This research was conducted with a virtual wedge on the Siemens PRIMUS linear accelerator , scanner Epson Stylus 10000 XL , Solid Water Phantom , Matlab Program and Excel Program. This research begin to find the corelation between radiation beam and pixel value on gafchromic film with field size 1x 1 cm2. This corelation in used to find profile dose of virtual wedge from gafchromic film with field size 1 x 11 cm2. Variation fof gafchromic film is in this angle on 150, 300, and 450, opening jaws in Y1and Y2and teh last variation of half beam position in (-10 until 0),(-5 until 5) and (0 until 10). This research find that in higher beam dose, make the darkness film but lowerpixel value.ther are 2 corection in jaws position Y2 half beam (-10 until 0)300 and jaws position Y2 half beam (0 until1 0) 450. Abstract

CeO2 nanoparticles are biomaterial that demonstrate potential as antioxidant and radioprotector for medical application. In this study, the radioprotector properties of CeO2 nanoparticles was evaluated by measuring absorbed dose of X-ray radiation. CeO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by precipitation and characterized using UV-Vis and FTIR spectrometers. CeO2 nanoparticle solution was prepared with various concentrations from 0.005 mg/mL to 0.06 mg/mL. The solution was exposed to 6 MV X-ray photon beam from medical linear acceleration with a source-to-surface distance of 100 cm and radiation dose of 2 Gy. The absorbed dose of X-ray by CeO2 nanoparticle solution was measured by an ion chamber detector. The absorbance peak at 301 nm observed in UV-Vis spectrum and absorbance peak at 854 and 492 cm-1 in the FTIR spectrum confirmed the formation of CeO2 nanoparticles. Radiation dose measurement exhibited dose reduction of CeO2 nanoparticles solution depend on concentration. CeO2 nanoparticle solution with concentration higher than 0.04 mg/mL showed potential application for radioprotector 6 MV of X-ray photon beam.

Abstract

Bolus is a material that equal with the tissue and functions to increase the dose radiation in surface area in external radiotherapy, which uses electron beam. In this research, bolus was made using silicone rubber (SR) material, which was mixed with silicacomposites material. The bolus with a dimension of 12 x 12 x 0,5 cm3 was successfully made with a various amount of silica composite (2%, 4%, 6%). Bolus was then characterized using linear accelerator (LINAC) with an electron beam for percentage of surface dose (PSD) and using CT-Scan to measurement relative electron density (RED). The energy of electron beam used in this research was5 and 7 MeV. The result shows that RED value increased with increasing the amount of silica composite with higher RED value amounted to 1.186. PSD value increased with increasing the amount of silica composite, higher PSD value of energy in 5 and 7 MeV amounted 106.82% and 106.82% and 100.34%, respectively. The result certified that the silica composite material can increase the percentage of surface dose on electron beam radiotherapy.

Abstract

Synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles, iron oxide nanoparticles and Zn-Fe nanoparticles using pulse laser ablation method has been conducted. Experimentally, a pulse Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm, 7 ns, 35 mJ) was directed and focused on a metal plates of pure Zn and Fe, which are placed in the liquid medium of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). The PVP functions as a stabilizer agent. The results show that the produced nanoparticles have a spherical shape with an averaged diameter of Zn-Fe nanoparticles of 13 nm. FTIR and XRD test results of Zn-Fe nanoparticles show characteristics of Zn-Fe compounds. The examination of Zn-Fe nanoparticles as MRI contrast agents was carried out by varying the concentration of nanoparticles. Cenh calculation results showed the highest contrast enhancement occurred at a concentration of 1.25 mM with a value of 64.26% for T1 weighted images, and 81.52% for T2 weighted images. The SNR calculation results show the highest value at a concentration of 1.25 mM of 70.52 for T1 weighted images. The highest SNR value in the T2 weighted image at a concentration of 0.156 mM of 165.09.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the automated measurement of slice sensitivity profile (SSP) on the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) computed tomography (CT) performance phantom for variations of slice thickness and field of view (FOV). The AAPM CT performance phantom was scanned using a Philips MRC 880 CT Scanner for variations of slice thickness and FOV. The slice thickness values were 1, 3, and 5 mm. The FOV values were 240, 300, 340, 400, and 440 mm. The automated SSPs and their fullwidth at half maximums (FWHMs) were automatically measured from the middle stair object of the phantom. To validate the automated measurement results, the FWHM values of SSPs obtained were compared to those from manual measurements. The differences between FWHMs from automated measurements and set slice thicknesses are less than 0.3 mm, while the differences between FWHMs from automated and manual measurements are less than 0.2 mm. The results from automated measurements are closer to the set slice thickness than those from manual measurements. This automated SSP measurement provides high accuracy and precision for both the slice thickness and the FOV variations.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an automatic method for calculating slice thickness on an American College of Radiology (ACR) phantom and evaluate its accuracy at variations of orientation angle and slice thickness. The phantom was scanned using Siemens SOMATOM perspective, with variations of the slice thickness (i.e. 1.5, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 10 mm) and rotation angles (i.e. 0.0, 22.5, 45.0, and 67.5°). The phantom rotation was based on the bone object as a reference. After determining the rotation angle, the phantom image was rotated by the angle. Next, profiles of pixel values across the wire objects for measuring slice thickness were developed from rotated phantom images. The slice thickness was measured automatically from the obtained profiles. The results of the automated method are 2.5, 4.1, 5.4, 5.8, 7.8, and 9.8 mm for all varied slice thicknesses. The differences between the automatic and manual methods are within 0.3 mm. The automatic method is capable of detecting slice thickness for various angles. The differences in slice thickness for various angles are within 0.1 mm for a slice thickness of 3 mm. These results are similar when compared to manual measurements. An algorithm for automated slice thickness measurement on ACR phantom has been successfully developed.
