Abstract

Breeding, feeding and management are important components of the success of a livestock business. Feeding, especially in providing feed with good quantity, quality and continuity, is one of the biggest inputs and challenges in livestock business. Until now, providing feed, especially forage, is still a big challenge in ruminant livestock farming. Mulato grass is a potential alternative forage source because it has good quality, is drought resistant, has high biomass, and is popular with livestock. This community activity (PKM) aims to announce hybrid mulato grass to breeders as a potential forage alternative for ruminants. The object or target in this community service activity is the Bakti Mekar Jaya Forest Farmers Group. The counseling method was used in this activity. The stages of implementing activities consisted of the preparation stage, assessment stage (pre-test), counseling stage and evaluation stage (post test). The results achieved in this extension activity provide benefits for livestock, including: (1) obtaining alternative sources of forage for the livestock being kept; (2) minimizing the risk of a shortage of forage during the dry season; (3) gain knowledge about cultivating hybrid mulato grass. The continued phase of this PPM activity involves observing the development of Mulato hybrid grass to serve as a supplementary feed source.

Abstract

Meningkatnya permintaan daging ayam broiler di Indonesia menekankan pentingnya manajemen kesehatan yang efektif untuk memastikan produktivitas dan kualitas daging yang optimal. Antibiotik atau vaksin yang secara tradisional digunakan untuk mencegah penyakit dan meningkatkan pertumbuhan memiliki risiko residu dalam produk daging, sehingga mendorong eksplorasi alternatif alami. Ekstrak daun binahong (Anredera cordifolia) dikenal memiliki sifat antibakteri, antioksidan, dan meningkatkan kekebalan tubuh, serta menunjukkan potensi sebagai pengganti vaksin alami pada ayam broiler. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi dampak ekstrak daun binahong terhadap produktivitas ayam broiler, termasuk bobot badan, rasio konversi pakan (FCR), dan konsumsi pakan. Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) diterapkan pada lima kelompok perlakuan, masing-masing menerima konsentrasi ekstrak binahong yang berbeda atau vaksin konvensional. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa FCR dan konsumsi pakan memiliki perbedaan yang signifikan (P<0,05). Dosis tinggi ekstrak binahong memiliki efek signifikan dalam menurunkan FCR tetapi tidak berbeda dengan kelompok kontrol, sehingga menunjukkan potensinya sebagai alternatif pengganti antibiotik dalam manajemen broiler.

Abstract

Somatic cell count (SCC) is commonly used as an indicator of subclinical mastitis, yet its association with postpartum performance, non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) concentration, and immune status remains unclear. This study evaluated 18 Holstein Friesian cows grouped by milk SCC: low (<160,000 cells/ml), moderate (160,000–400,000 cells/ml), or high (>400,000 cells/ml). Daily milk production, feed intake, plasma NEFA levels, and natural antibodies (IgG and IgM) against keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) were measured. ANOVA was used to detect differences among groups. Despite consistent feeding regimens and standardized sampling, cows with high SCC (4.79) tended to exhibit lower IgG titers than those with low (6.16) and moderate (6.42) SCC, suggesting reduced immune function under higher SCC levels. However, milk yield, feed intake, IgM titers, and postpartum NEFA levels showed no significant differences among the three groups. These findings indicate that elevated SCC may impair systemic IgG antibody responses but exerts limited effects on production and metabolic parameters. In conclusion, while SCC appears to influence immune status, its relationship with NEFA concentrations, milk production, and feed intake is less pronounced under these experimental conditions.
