Abstract

This community service activity aims to assist mathematics teachers in the preparation of Problem Based Learning (PBL)-based learning tools and implementation in order to improve students' mathematics communication at SMP Muhammadiyah Surakarta Special Program. PBL is a learning model that emphasizes the solving of real problems and the use of mathematics in everyday contexts. This activity began with the identification of problems in the mathematics learning process at SMP Muhammadiyah Surakarta Special Program. The team provided assistance to mathematics teachers in designing the preparation of RPP and LKPD. After the learning tools have been compiled, then a discussion that examines the learning tools is produced. This community service activity has an impact on improving students' mathematics communication at SMP Muhammadiyah through a PBL-based learning approach. By applying relevant learning tools and involving students in solving real problems, there is an increase in mathematics communication of students of SMP Muhammadiyah PK Surakarta.

Abstract

Kejujuran merupakan salah satu karakter yang penting ditanamkan semenjak dini pada siswa. Melalui kejujuran  diharapkan bisa dihasilkan siswa yang cerdas tidak hanya secara intelektual, namun juga cerdas secara moral. Program ini bertujuan untuk menanamkan karakter kejujuran melalui kantin anti korupsi pada siswa SD/MI Ngargorejo, Ngemplak, Boyolali. Metode pelaksanaan program melalui penyuluhan dan pendampingan. Hasil pelaksanaan program menunjukkan bahwa nilai nilai karakter kejujuran siswa yang diinternalisasikan dalam kantin anti korupsi di SD/ MI Ngargorejo, Ngemplak, Boyolali telah tertanamkan dengan baik. Siswa sudah  menunjukkan sikap jujur, disiplin dan mandiri dalam program kantin anti korupsi. Keberadaan kantin anti korupsi dengan teknik pelayanan self-service system dapat dijadikan sebagai media yang baik dalam penanaman karakter kejujuran siswa karena bisa melahirkan sikap dan tindakan siswa yang positif.

Abstract

Differential equations is a branch of mathematics which is closely related to mathematical modeling that arises in real-world problems. Problem solving ability is an essential component to solve contextual problem of differential equations properly. The purposes of this study are to describe contextual teaching and learning (CTL) model in differential equations course, to improve lecturers’ abilities in implementing CTL, and to improve students’ problem solving ability in differential equations. The study was conducted in the fifth semester of 2015/2016 academic year with 34 students of mathematics education Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta as participants. The CTL model was applied by lesson study approach which involved three stages namely plan, do, and see in each cycle. This research was conducted in four cycles. The study results found that discovery-based CTL could be applied in differential equations course. The lecturer abilities to design discovery-based contextual learning plan, to present real-world problem in learning process, to design learning strategy and assessment instruments of problem solving improved significantly. Problem solving ability of students also improved during teaching and learning process.

Abstract

STEAM approach is one of the learning strategies that connect between fields of science with the aim of training critical, creative, innovative thinking skills and student problem-solving skills. The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation of STEAM-based mathematics learning at one of the junior high schools in Surakarta. This type of research is qualitative descriptive with the subjects were 16 students of class IX and one STEAM learning teacher. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observations, and documentation. The process of data analysing is through data reduction techniques, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of STEAM-based mathematics learning implemented a shift system where the number of student attendance was only 50% of the total number of students in the class. The learning process is using the Project Based Learning model because mathematics learning in one of the junior high schools in Surakarta is implemented into the creation of a STEAM project with group discussion methods. STEAM-based mathematics learning covers aspects of STEAM. Science is associated with everyday problems such as applying pascal’s law to elevators. Technology implemented on the use of tools and materials. Engineering is associated with the ability of students in solving problems, one of which is in assembling a project. Art includes the ability of students to create a project. Mathematics is related to calculating and measuring a project. As for the problems experienced by teachers and students during the pandemic of the new normal era, is the estimated time given to complete a project.

Abstract

Statistics is necessary for students since it provides them with critical abilities for data analysis, decision-making, and the evaluation of information. However, learning statistics is still challenging for students. This study aims to develop learning media based on STEM-Discovery Learning assisted by Google Sites for statistics material, and to test the validity and practicality of the media. This research employs the ADDIE development model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation phases.  Participants in this study were mathematics teachers and grade VII students of Junior High School in Kudus, Jawa Tengah. The interview guidelines and questionnaires were used as the instruments. The interview results were analyzed by the flow method involving data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. While the questionnaire results were analyzed by determining the average score and then changing it into qualitative data. With the help of Google Sites, the SMARTISTISKA learning media based on STEM-Discovery Learning was successfully developed on statistical material for junior high school students in the seventh grade. The results of the expert validation evaluation show an average total score of 3.5 for the media, indicating that its validity is considered excellent. Additionally, the mean overall practicality score is 3.39, placing it within the high practicality range. Therefore, this learning media is deemed suitable for use in classroom statistics instruction. This study provides a statistical learning media that integrates STEM and discovery learning assisted by Google Sites. Teachers can utilize or modify this media to increase students' active participation in statistical learning.Statistik diperlukan bagi siswa karena memberikan mereka kemampuan kritis untuk analisis data, pengambilan keputusan, dan evaluasi informasi. Namun demikian, mempelajari statistik masih menjadi tantangan bagi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran berdasarkan STEM-Discovery Learning dengan berbantuan Google Sites untuk materi statistik, dan untuk menguji validitas serta kepraktisan media. Penelitian ini menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE, yang terdiri dari fase analisis, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Peserta dalam penelitian ini adalah guru matematika dan siswa kelas VII Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Kudus, Jawa Tengah. Pedoman wawancara dan kuesioner digunakan sebagai instrumen. Hasil wawancara dianalisis dengan metode alur yang terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data, dan kesimpulan. Sementara hasil kuesioner dianalisis dengan menentukan skor rata-rata dan kemudian mengubahnya menjadi data kualitatif. Dengan bantuan Google Sites, media pembelajaran SMARTISTISKA berbasis STEM-Discovery Learning berhasil dikembangkan pada materi statistika untuk siswa SMP kelas VII.  Hasil evaluasi validasi ahli menunjukkan skor total rata-rata 3,5 untuk media, yang menunjukkan bahwa validitasnya sangat baik. Selain itu, skor rata-rata keseluruhan untuk kepraktisan adalah 3,39, yang menempatkannya dalam kategori kepraktisan tinggi. Oleh karena itu, media pembelajaran ini dipandang cocok untuk digunakan dalam pengajaran statistik di kelas. Penelitian ini menyediakan media pembelajaran statistik yang mengintegrasikan STEM dan discovery learning dengan berbantuan Google Sites.
