Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the remaining life of the CL-5 shell cooler using the fitness for service method (FFS-1/API 579). The evaluation is conducted through the inspection process of components using Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods. This study is aimed at identifying thickness changes, analyzing the types of corrosion occurring in the CL-5 shell cooler, calculating the minimum allowable shell thickness, determining the Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP), estimating the corrosion rate, assessing the remaining life, and determining the operational feasibility of these components. Calculations are performed using the FFS-1/API 579 standard. The research results indicate that the total loss in 2011 and 2021 was 0.2 mm and 0.414 mm, respectively. The corrosion rates observed on the CL-5 shell cooler in 2011 and 2021 were 0.067 mm/year and 0.13 mm/year. Based on the minimum thickness and MAWP values evaluation, the CL-5 shell cooler is still fit for operation. Analysis of the remaining life of the CL-5 shell cooler indicates that the remaining life in 2011 and 2021 was 7.81 years and 6.83 years, respectively. Based on the above description, it can be concluded that the CL-5 shell cooler can still be operated.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate TPMS lattice structure designs using Python scripts, which will later be used for lattice shell helmet designs. The structural design evaluation will be performed using numerical methods by varying the volume fraction. The lattice structures to be evaluated include FischerKochS, Honeycomb, pmy, and SchoenFRD. The CAD models of the lattice structures will be generated using Python-based scripts. The volume fraction variations are achieved by altering the shell thickness values in the Python scripts. The analysis will be conducted using numerical methods based on finite element analysis with static analysis and an elastic material model. The material used is ABS. Based on the research results, it indicates that the thickness specified in the script (thickness) cannot be defined as the actual shell thickness. The relationship between thickness and volume fraction indicates that each lattice structure will produce a different volume fraction when the shell thickness is varied. As the shell thickness increases, the volume fraction of the lattice structure also increases. volume fraction in lattice structures does not affect stress in a linear manner. The highest stress is observed in the pmy structure, followed by the Honeycomb and FischerKochS structures, while the SchoenFRD structure exhibits the lowest stress values. The most suitable design for use as a lattice structure in helmets is the ScheonFRD design. This is due to the design capability of ScheonFRD in distributing stress across the structure.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to introduce the laboratory environment and facilities of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) to students of SMKN 1 Raman Utara, East Lampung. The activity was conducted in the form of a campus visit involving 62 12th-grade students from the Light Vehicle Engineering Department. The agenda included a presentation on higher education opportunities, interactive discussions, a Q&A session, and a direct tour of ITERA’s Mechanical Engineering laboratories, including the Materials Engineering, Energy Conversion, Fabrication, Manufacturing, Internal Combustion Engines, and Foundry laboratories. This activity was designed to inspire students to pursue higher education and broaden their understanding of engineering fields. The outcome showed a high level of enthusiasm among the students and successfully achieved the goal of introducing campus life and technological exposure. This initiative is expected to serve as an initial step in strengthening synergy between vocational high schools and higher education institutions.

Abstract

Nilai daya jual rendah dan keberadaan serat sabut kelapa yang melimpah di pesisir laut terutama di daerah Klirong, Kebumen. Serat sabut kelapa digunakan pada beberapa produk industri kreatif seperti topi, tas, dan keset lantai. Kayu balsa banyak digunakan pada berbagai kebutuhan furnitur rumah karena memiliki massa yang ringan dan harga murah. Program Pengabdian Unggulan Universitas ini bertujuan untuk melakukan pendampingan warga  dalam pengembangan material serat sabut kelapa untuk pembuatan produk meja dan kursi menggunakan papan komposit sandwich yang berlokasi di Tuguran, Magelang Utara. Bahan komposit digunakan pada program  pengbadian ini yaitu serat sabut kelapa, kayu balsa, resin unsaturated polyester serta katalis. Rangka meja dan kursi menggunakan material baja hollow ST37. Metode pembuatan produk komposit sandwich berpenguat serat sabut kelapa fraksi volume serat 20% dengan core kayu balsa tebal 10 mm dibuat dengan metode cetak tekan menghasilkan energi serat 0,87 J dan ketangguhan impak 0,0176 J/mm². Perakitan rangka meja dan kursi menggunakan metode pengelasan Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) dengan arus 100 A. Hasil pembuatan produk menunjukkan bahwa komposit sandwich dengan metode cetak tekan menghasilkan papan komposit sandwich dengan sedikit void dan tidak terjadi delaminasi atau cacat. Pengelasan minim cacat pada parameter  arus 100 ampere, sehingga rangka kursi kuat menahan beban sampai 100 kg yang sudah diuji coba diduduki langsung oleh warga. Pendampingan pembuatan meja dan kursi komposit memberikan manfaat berupa kemampuan warga dalam soft skill dan hard skill dalam pembuatan produk meja dan kursi komposit sandwich yang memiliki daya jual dan kebermanfaatan tinggi.
